To run a prerecorded seasonal promotion as a continuous YouTube Live broadcast, create or schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio, then use FFmpeg to read the video at its normal pace and repeat it while sending the output to YouTube’s encoder endpoint. The example below is a template, not a tested, one-size-fits-all command: match its encoding settings to your file and YouTube’s current recommendations, protect your stream key, and check the Live Control Room preview before you promote the broadcast.
Prepare a promotion that can withstand repeating
Export the store promotion as a video with the intended aspect ratio, picture, and audio. FFmpeg can repeat a file, but it does not make the join between the ending and the beginning seamless. Review those frames and listen across the audio boundary; adjust the edit if the loop feels abrupt. Test the final export rather than assuming the original project’s playback will match it.
- Use product images, video, music, logos, and other material that the store owns or is authorized to use.
- Preserve useful source quality. Do not upscale a small or soft video just to label the live stream at a higher resolution.
- Check that the file plays correctly and contains the audio you intend to broadcast.
Create the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Create a live stream or schedule one in Live Control Room. Scheduling is useful when you want an event page and time to promote the broadcast.
- Open the stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not put a real key in a tutorial, screenshot, public repository, or shared script.
- Keep Live Control Room open so you can confirm YouTube receives the stream and review its preview before you start or promote the event. YouTube’s encoder workflow is documented at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Choose ingest and video settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure encoder ingestion in a typical workflow. Its encoder guidance also covers other protocols, including HLS for some codec and HDR needs; HLS sends segments and has higher latency. For a straightforward SDR stream, H.264 video with AAC audio is a conservative compatibility choice. Follow YouTube’s current settings for the protocol and codecs you choose rather than assuming every FFmpeg output format or source file will work.
The following are YouTube Help recommendations, not independent performance measurements. The retrieved settings page does not state a publication date; it was accessed October 3, 2026.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Output choice | YouTube guidance |
|---|---|
| H.264, 720p at 30 fps | Recommended video bitrate: 3 Mbps |
| H.264, 1080p at 30 fps | Recommended video bitrate: 5 Mbps |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Stereo audio | 128 Kbps bitrate and 44.1 kHz sample rate |
Use the bitrate for the resolution and frame rate you actually plan to send; consult YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for other combinations and current requirements. Choose a resolution that suits both the source and your encoding capacity. A 720p30 source may be better left at 720p than enlarged to 1080p.
Loop and pace the video with FFmpeg
FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 input option repeats the input indefinitely; -stream_loop 0 does not loop. The -re option reads the file at its native frame rate (equivalent to -readrate 1), pacing file playout instead of sending it as fast as the machine can process it. Both are input options, so place them before the -i they apply to. FFmpeg cautions that low read rates are not suitable for real capture or live inputs because they can cause packet loss. See the FFmpeg command-line documentation.

This illustrative command assumes a 1080p30 SDR H.264 output and stereo AAC audio. The 5 Mbps video rate follows YouTube’s recommendation for H.264 at 1080p30, and a 60-frame GOP at 30 fps corresponds to a two-second keyframe interval. It is a starting template, not an official YouTube command or a tested guarantee. Replace the filename and endpoint, inspect your media’s streams, and adjust valid encoding settings for the file and chosen output.

-f flv "<YouTube server URL>/<STREAM_KEY>"
Substitute the server URL and stream key exactly as provided in YouTube Studio. Never publish a command containing a real key. Shell history and process listings may expose command-line values depending on the operating system and setup; use a protected environment or private script/configuration where appropriate, and consider who can inspect processes on the machine.

Stream-copy or re-encode?
FFmpeg can use -c copy to pass through source streams without re-encoding, which avoids encoding work and another quality-generation step. Whether that is suitable depends on the source codecs, container, timestamps, and YouTube output requirements. Re-encoding gives you control to normalize codec and rate settings, but consumes computing resources and can reduce quality if configured poorly. Inspect the source and test the exact file and command; neither method is guaranteed to suit every input. FFmpeg documents stream copy and its options in its command-line manual.
Test the stream and monitor it live
- Run a test before the scheduled promotion, using movement and audio representative of the actual program. A static title card alone may not expose problems that appear in the real promotion.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for the expected image, resolution, and audio before clicking Go live when using the scheduled workflow.
- While broadcasting, watch stream health and dashboard messages. A running FFmpeg process does not by itself prove YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
- Use the specific warning to investigate bitrate, codec, audio, or frame-rate configuration rather than changing unrelated settings at random. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents stream health and configuration issue categories at LiveStreams.
YouTube’s own guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream,” and advises: “During the event, monitor the stream health and review messages.”

End the broadcast and understand the archive limit
When the promotion is over, stop the encoder and end the event in Live Control Room according to the workflow you used. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its cited guidance does not establish automatic archive availability for broadcasts lasting 12 hours or longer. Plan to retain your original export separately if you need a dependable copy. Details are in YouTube’s encoder streaming guide.
Rights and monetization still apply to a loop
Streaming a video as a live event does not change who owns its contents or whether the channel can monetize it. You need appropriate rights for the promotion’s footage, music, graphics, and other material; permission to use material is not itself a guarantee of YouTube Partner Program eligibility.

YouTube’s monetization policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is covered. The policy says reused content must show a meaningful difference to qualify under reused-content rules, and it separately addresses copyright. A recurring loop made from original store material should still be considered against the channel’s overall monetization policies; FFmpeg does not create an exception. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
