Which option fits your channel?
These tools solve different parts of the problem. OBS and VLC create a local playback scene on a computer. AzuraCast automates a self-hosted radio stream. Clear the rights before building the stream
A playlist being available online—or a song being playable in your account—does not grant permission to rebroadcast it publicly. YouTube says that all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image and, if the material remains, interrupt or terminate it. An archived stream can also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast ends.

A licence is not necessarily enough to prevent interruption: YouTube says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted by the rights holder in Content ID. Confirm the relevant rights and channel allowlisting directly with the owners before going live.
Indian repertoire is not the same as digital livestream permission
PPL India says its repertoire covers more than 1.04 crore songs across languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Punjabi, Marathi, Bhojpuri, and Haryanvi; that is PPL India’s own repertoire figure on its homepage, accessed in 2026, not an independently verified count. It does not establish that PPL grants permission for a YouTube digital broadcast. Its licensing FAQ says it does not issue licences for sound recordings used on digital platforms and directs virtual music users to individual labels. Its public-performance permission is limited to songs in the repertoire it represents.

For each recording, confirm with the relevant rights holder that permission covers digital livestreaming, your territories, duration, and monetization model, and ask whether your channel must be allowlisted. Do not assume a general public-performance licence covers YouTube.
Do not rebroadcast music from YouTube or YouTube Music
YouTube’s Terms of Service give public screening of videos and streaming music from the service as examples of non-personal use that the terms prohibit. Use files you own or have explicit permission to stream, not a YouTube playlist as your public broadcast source.

YouTube’s live Content ID matching feature is for certain partners using Content Manager; its stated requirements include global rights and exclusive ownership of the material. It is a rights-owner feature, not a way for a channel to obtain permission to stream songs it does not own. See YouTube’s live Content ID matching requirements.
Set up an OBS playlist for cleared music
OBS is free, open-source, and commercially usable according to the OBS Help Portal. Its Media Source documentation lists MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV audio formats. For a longer media list, OBS provides a VLC playlist source; VLC is a separate installation requirement.

- Prepare the files. Use only recordings and accompanying visuals you have permission to livestream. Organize the files locally and decide whether order or shuffle suits the channel.
- Install OBS and VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, OBS documentation says to install 64-bit VLC. Check the current instructions for your operating system and software versions because source behavior can differ.
- Add a VLC playlist source. In your OBS scene, add the VLC source and populate its playlist with the local files you intend to broadcast. Use the source’s loop control for continuous playback; enable shuffle if you want randomized order.
- Build the scene and delivery chain. Add any permitted visual elements, then configure OBS to send the scene to your YouTube live stream using your channel’s stream setup. The playlist source handles media playback; it does not itself keep the computer online or recover a failed broadcast.
- Test and monitor. Confirm audio and visuals, playlist transitions, stream arrival on YouTube, and the authorized content before announcing a 24/7 schedule. Keep a person able to notice a stopped source, lost network, computer restart, or YouTube interruption and restore the broadcast.
The cited OBS documentation does not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval for every machine and YouTube setup. Choose output settings using current YouTube guidance and the capabilities of the specific encoder and connection; do not treat one preset as suitable for every channel.

AzuraCast’s media manager feeds its AutoDJ after you upload media and assign it to playlists. The project describes this as composing a live radio broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Playlists can run in sequential or shuffled rotation, in scheduled blocks, or trigger after a set number of songs or minutes. Individual playlist priorities are documented for releases after September 1, 2024.

This is useful when you want station-style rotation, timed programming, or live-DJ handoff rather than a single desktop scene. AzuraCast also documents individual live streamers connecting through Icecast- or Shoutcast-compatible broadcasting software. That does not by itself provide a one-click YouTube output: configure a YouTube-compatible encoder or relay, then monitor the server and delivery path. AzuraCast is open-source software under AGPL version 3 according to its documentation; the cited material does not establish your hosting or operating costs.
Plan for continuous operation and failures
A 24/7 schedule is an operating commitment, not just a playlist setting. With OBS, the host computer must sustain the selected encoding workload and network connection, and someone must be able to respond to failures. A mini PC is not automatically a suitable always-on host: compare operating-system support, encoding capability, cooling, network reliability, and repairability. No specific model or continuous-duty rating is established here.
- Playlist does not play: Check that the media files are reachable, that the VLC source has entries, and that VLC is installed in the architecture required by your OBS installation.
- Playback stops at the end: Check the source’s loop setting and test the playlist transition before relying on unattended playback.
- The YouTube live stream is interrupted: Check the live control room for a rights or Content ID issue, confirm any required channel allowlisting with the rights holder, and restore the broadcast only after the issue is addressed.
- The local broadcast disappears: Check whether OBS is still running, whether the host restarted, and whether the network or encoding process failed. OBS’s playlist feature does not provide a hosted recovery service.
- AzuraCast plays correctly but YouTube is offline: Troubleshoot the separate encoder or relay and its connection to YouTube; AutoDJ playlist automation and YouTube delivery are distinct parts of the setup.
