Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo loop prerecorded nighttime crickets and rain on YouTube Live, put the media file in an OBS Studio scene as a Media Source, enable Loop, connect OBS to an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, and preview the feed before going live. For this do-it-yourself setup, the computer running OBS and its internet connection must stay on; YouTube does not guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
Before you begin
- A live-enabled YouTube channel: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so check access ahead of your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- OBS Studio and the media file: Keep the cricket-and-rain video on the computer that will run OBS. OBS Media Source supports common audio and video formats, including MP4 and WAV. See OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.
- Permission to broadcast the recording: Use audio and video you own or are authorized to use. The fact that a recording is available online does not establish that you have the rights to rebroadcast it.
- A stable upload connection: The computer, OBS, and network equipment need to remain powered and connected for the local-encoder setup to continue sending the feed.
Set up the looping stream in OBS and YouTube
-
Confirm YouTube Live is available
Open YouTube Studio and check that you can access live streaming. If this is your channel’s first broadcast, allow up to 24 hours for activation. YouTube’s Get started with live streaming page explains eligibility and activation.
-
Check the file before configuring the stream
Open the local video and confirm it contains both the image and the sound you intend to broadcast. Check that the audio level is comfortable and that the file plays through to its end. OBS’s Media Sources documentation covers supported media-source formats and options.
-
Create an OBS scene and enable looping
In OBS, add a Media Source to a scene, select the local cricket-and-rain file, and turn on Loop in the source properties. OBS defines this option as restarting playback after the file reaches its end. Play the source and verify that the picture and ambience audio are both present.

-
Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live, open the Stream tab, and create or schedule an encoder stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube describes the key as the credential that identifies where the encoder sends its feed and allows YouTube to accept it; keep it private. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream-key guidance.

Send a test feed and inspect the preview
Start streaming from OBS and wait for the feed preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check the image, sound, and stream health; only then select Go live to begin the event. YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and movement to the planned broadcast and monitoring stream health. See YouTube’s streaming tips and live-stream settings guidance.
-
Keep upload capacity in reserve
YouTube recommends roughly 20% more upload bandwidth than the stream bitrate. That is headroom, not a target bitrate: choose an encoder configuration appropriate to your feed and connection, then check YouTube’s current live-stream settings guidance for supported settings. Other devices using the connection can reduce the available upload capacity.

Keep the local setup running
For this method, OBS must keep playing the file and sending its feed, so leave the computer and network equipment on and connected. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring; a computer, encoder, connection, or platform interruption can still disrupt a stream.
Choose a session length with the archive in mind
YouTube says live streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. The 12-hour figure is an archive warning, not a claim that YouTube necessarily ends a broadcast at that point. YouTube also notes that DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If a replay matters, end the session before it reaches 12 hours, save a local recording, and start another session. See YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, restrictions in the previous 90 days, and whether first-time activation is still pending. Activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The feed does not appear in Live Control Room: Confirm OBS is using the stream URL and key for the intended YouTube stream, and that OBS has started sending. Keep the key private; if it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- The video or ambience audio is missing: Test the file locally, then check the selected Media Source and OBS audio meters. Make sure the source is visible in the scene and that the intended audio is included in the file or routed through OBS.
- The file plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. Test through the end of the file to verify the restart.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check the connection and available upload capacity, including other devices using the network. YouTube recommends about 20% bandwidth above the stream bitrate; check stream health and test again before relaunching.
- The replay is missing or cannot rewind far enough: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. Keep sessions under 12 hours if the YouTube archive is important and retain a local recording.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer and home connection to run OBS continuously, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream playing from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera. Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers, and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly access is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo or its pricing page. To try it, start your free first day.
Copyright and monetization
Use recordings you have permission to broadcast, including both the rain and cricket audio and any visuals. This setup guidance does not establish that repetitive ambience streams qualify for monetization; review YouTube’s current monetization policies for your channel and content before relying on revenue. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions.
