One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor a modest, locally hosted YouTube stream, an Intel N100 mini PC is a reasonable low-power starting point—but the processor’s 6 W TDP does not tell you the whole computer’s power use or prove it can encode your particular stream continuously. If you want to loop prerecorded gaming footage as a YouTube Live broadcast, you may not need a PC at all: YouTube lists cloud options, including Gyre, for 24/7 prerecorded streams. First decide whether you mean playing a YouTube VOD locally or encoding and retransmitting footage as a live stream; those are different workloads.
First, define what “running a YouTube gaming VOD stream” means
A mini PC can serve different roles, and each has different requirements:
- Watch or play a VOD locally: The computer decodes and displays video. It does not send a live broadcast to YouTube.
- Broadcast prerecorded gaming footage as YouTube Live: The computer or a cloud service loops the footage and sends an encoded live feed to YouTube. This needs an encoder, suitable upload bandwidth, and a setup that can keep running.
This article focuses on the second case when discussing YouTube Live settings, while noting where simple local playback differs. YouTube explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format for streaming; its encoder guidance also describes Gyre as a cloud-based 24/7 option for prerecorded videos that does not require a dedicated PC.
Why an Intel N100 is a plausible low-power starting point
Intel’s N100 specification lists four cores, four threads, a maximum turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz, 6 MB cache, UHD Graphics with 24 execution units, Quick Sync Video, and a 6 W TDP. Those specifications make the N100 a credible category to investigate for modest video duties, but they do not establish that a particular mini PC can encode your chosen resolution and frame rate continuously.

TDP is a processor specification, not a measurement of a complete mini PC at the wall. The system’s memory, SSD, motherboard, power supply, cooling, and workload all matter. Do not use 6 W as the mini PC’s actual running draw or as the basis for an electricity-cost estimate.
Intel also cautions that feature availability and performance vary with system configuration. Quick Sync Video on a processor does not, by itself, prove that the encoder, operating system, drivers, and streaming software you plan to use can produce your target output.

How to choose a mini PC for continuous streaming
Confirm the exact encoding path
Before buying, check that the specific model supports hardware encoding—not merely video decoding—for your software, codec, resolution, and frame rate. Confirm the operating system and driver support as well. If you only need local playback, decoding capability may be enough; if you are sending a live feed to YouTube, encoding support is central.
Look for sustained-operation evidence
Prioritize model-specific information about cooling, thermal behavior under a sustained encode load, and long-duration operation. A processor specification or a review covering a different workload does not establish 24/7 reliability. Check warranty and support terms for the exact device rather than assuming that all N100 mini PCs behave alike.

For example, CNX Software’s 2024 review of the MINIX NEO Z100-0dB covers an N100 system with 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB M.2 SSD, and notes different power limits from another N100 mini PC. It is useful evidence that configurations vary, not a 24/7 YouTube encoding endurance test or proof that this model is the best choice.
Compare real power, not just processor TDP
For an electricity estimate, seek wall-power measurements for the exact device at idle, during playback, and during your intended encode load. Then use your own electricity rate and expected operating hours. No directly comparable whole-system measurement for this exact continuous-streaming workload is established here, so an exact annual cost cannot be inferred from the processor’s TDP.

Check storage, network, and power resilience
- Allow adequate memory and storage for the operating system, streaming software, and the footage you intend to loop.
- Prefer wired Ethernet when practical for a stationary stream, but remember that a cable cannot make an insufficient internet upload connection fast enough.
- If brief power outages are common, a compact UPS may help bridge them. Runtime depends on the complete connected load; it is not a substitute for suitable cooling, network service, or a recovery plan.
Set YouTube Live encoder settings for your target stream
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1; it supports frame rates up to 60 fps. For the stream, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds.
| Output target | Codec | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | H.264 | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 12 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | H.264 | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommended bitrates, not universal minimum internet speeds. The total stream bitrate must fit the available upload bandwidth. Leave capacity for network variation and other household use, and test with representative audio and motion before relying on a continuous stream. YouTube advises streamers to test before going live and monitor stream health.

When a mini PC is—and is not—the right solution
A local mini PC makes sense if you specifically want hardware at your location to run the playback and encoding software, and you have verified the model against your workload. Remember that the complete setup includes the computer, storage, network connection, electricity, and any backup equipment—not just the processor.
If your goal is simply to keep prerecorded gaming footage looping as a YouTube Live stream, YouTube’s encoder page lists Gyre as a cloud-based option that does not require a dedicated PC. That listing does not establish its price, affiliate availability, or suitability for every channel, so check the service’s current terms yourself.
For a cloud-based way to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running, StreamNeo is #1: it loops uploaded video from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps as uploaded for one flat price per slot, with the first day free. It is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. You upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the stream continues without leaving your computer on.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload your prerecorded gaming video or build a playlist in StreamNeo.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Your video streams as uploaded, at any quality up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
- The stream will not start or YouTube does not receive it: Confirm that the encoder is using the intended RTMP/RTMPS destination and the correct YouTube stream key. Recheck the selected codec and output settings against YouTube’s current guidance.
- The stream health is unstable: Compare the total bitrate with available upload bandwidth, reduce competing network traffic, and test again. A wired connection can help with a local wireless link, but it does not add upload capacity from your internet provider.
- The mini PC struggles during encoding: Verify that the software is using the intended hardware encoder and that the exact system supports it. Test at the actual resolution, frame rate, codec, and representative motion; playback or decode success alone is not proof of encoding capability.
- Performance worsens during a long session: Check temperatures, ventilation, dust, and sustained behavior for the specific model. Look for model-specific long-duration evidence and consult the vendor if operation falls outside expected behavior.
- The stream stops after a power or internet interruption: Check how the chosen encoder or service reconnects, and test recovery before depending on it. A UPS can address some short power interruptions, but it cannot restore an internet outage.
Copyright and channel-policy checks for gaming footage
Before looping any VOD, confirm you have the rights or permission needed for the game footage, music, overlays, and other material it contains. A video that was acceptable as an upload is not automatically cleared for every live-stream use. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules for your channel and the material you plan to broadcast; continuous reuse does not remove those obligations. Test the stream privately or with a limited audience where appropriate before making it a regular broadcast.
