To take requests, share the scheduled stream, collect suggestions in Live Chat, and have a person—or a verified external tool—moderate them and manage the playback queue. Before any requested track goes on air, make sure you have the rights to use it; YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt them.
What scheduling does—and does not—do
A scheduled YouTube Live event creates the upcoming stream and its watch page. You can share that page in advance; scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can choose to receive a notification. Scheduling does not create a song-request queue or connect chat messages to your music player.
The workable setup is therefore two coordinated processes: schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio, then handle requests through Live Chat and your own playback workflow. Do not assume that a chat bot or API integration can play a requested track unless that specific tool documents and supports the connection to your playback queue.
How to schedule song requests

Schedule the YouTube Live event
In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Set its title, description, visibility, and stream settings, then share the upcoming watch page with your audience. YouTube’s scheduled stream guidance explains how upcoming streams can appear to subscribers and allow them to request notifications.

Choose how to send the broadcast
Select a streaming method that fits your production. YouTube lists encoder streaming as an option; encoders are useful when you need overlays or hardware in your production, and YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. That guidance does not make a particular encoder mandatory for a 24/7 channel. See YouTube’s streaming methods.

Prepare and check the stream
For a scheduled event, YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Check the Live Control Room preview, confirm the event is accessible, and monitor audio and video while it is running. These are event-preparation recommendations, not a 24/7 uptime or redundancy plan. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup and live-streaming guidance.

Tell viewers how to request a song
Use the event description or a pinned chat message to explain what information to send and what you will accept. For example, ask for a track title and artist, state whether requests are first-come-first-served, explain how you handle duplicates, and list content you will not play. These are queue rules for you to define; YouTube does not prescribe a request format.
YouTube’s Live Chat documentation states limits of up to 11 messages per 30 seconds and 200 characters per message. Those are platform limits, not a recommended format for requests. See YouTube Live Chat help.

Review each request before playback
A human moderator can check a request against your queue rules, remove duplicates, and decide whether to add it to the playlist. YouTube’s Live Chat API lets external applications read, send, and moderate chat messages in real time. That API capability alone does not select songs, verify music rights, or add tracks to a playback queue. Verify those functions in the documentation for any tool you consider.

Confirm music rights and watch for enforcement
You are responsible for having the necessary rights for the music you stream. YouTube’s live-stream terms say providers must have the rights needed to exploit live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Requirements can depend on the intended use and territories; a track being available to you does not by itself establish that it is cleared for a live radio stream.

YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A match can result in a placeholder replacing the stream, an interruption, or termination. Even if you have a license, the rightsholder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent matching-related interruption.
Manual moderation or an API-assisted workflow?

Whichever approach you use, make the approval point explicit: chat is a source of suggestions, not permission to play a track. Keep responsibility for the queue and rights checks with the channel operator.

Keeping a 24/7 stream running
A 24/7 music stream needs a playback source and a streaming setup that remain active, plus someone or something that can detect problems and respond. YouTube’s encoder checklist covers preparation and monitoring around an event; it does not establish a complete continuity or recovery design for a stream intended to run indefinitely. Plan how you will notice lost audio, a stopped encoder, or a YouTube interruption, and test your recovery process.

Common problems and what to check
- Viewers cannot find the stream: Check the event’s visibility and scheduled time in YouTube Studio, then share the upcoming watch page. Do not assume scheduling automatically tells every viewer about the event.
- A request appears in chat but not in the queue: Chat and playback are separate. Have the moderator add approved tracks, or verify that your chosen app explicitly integrates with your player and queue.
- A chat tool reads messages but does not play tracks: Reading or moderating messages through the Live Chat API does not establish playback integration. Check the app’s documentation for the exact player, queue, and approval features it supports.
- The stream shows a copyright warning, placeholder, or interruption: Review the matched content and your rights for the intended stream and territories. If you have a license, contact the rightsholder about Content ID allowlisting; a license alone may not prevent automated matching from interrupting the broadcast.
- Audio or video stops or degrades: Check the encoder output and Live Control Room preview, and monitor the stream as it runs. YouTube’s event checklist is not a guarantee of continuous service; use a recovery plan suited to your setup.
Costs and operating choices
Budget for the streaming setup you choose and for the time or tooling needed to moderate requests and maintain the queue. A dedicated hardware encoder, an always-on computer, or an audio interface may be useful in particular productions, but none is inherently required to schedule requests. YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish a specific encoder model or a universal 24/7 configuration.
