First confirm your channel is eligible and that you have the rights to every video and audio track; then configure the playlist, encoder, and YouTube ingest, test the feed, and monitor it. A server does not make the stream self-managing: playlist scheduling, process recovery, and recording depend on the setup you choose.
Before you set up the server
Check channel eligibility
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is the channel’s first time streaming, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. Follow YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance and confirm access in YouTube Studio.
Confirm rights to every part of the playlist
Use videos and music you own or are properly licensed to stream on YouTube, in the territories where the channel will be available. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a detected match may replace the stream with a placeholder and can interrupt or terminate it. Even with a license, a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and terms explain these obligations.
The playlist being in Bengali does not change YouTube’s documented ingest requirements. It does not, however, change the need for rights covering both the video and its soundtrack.

Choose a server and playlist workflow
Use a playlist-capable encoder
You need software or hardware that can read your media, produce a continuous audio/video feed, and send it to YouTube. The server workflow must also handle playlist order and repeat or scheduling behavior. An encoder is not automatically a playlist scheduler: verify that the specific software supports the behavior you need, and test it before relying on it for a continuous channel.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers the general process of configuring an encoder, but does not prescribe a server operating system, playlist package, or universal command. Choose a setup whose documentation explains how it handles end-of-file transitions, missing media, and restart behavior.
Size the server for your chosen setup
There is no single server CPU, RAM, disk, or network specification that fits every playlist. Requirements depend on whether the server must encode or transcode the source, the output resolution and bitrate, the media files, and your reliability and recording needs. Measure the demands of your chosen stack with representative videos, and allow for sustained upload capacity above the stream’s outgoing bitrate. If you keep local recordings, include their storage in your capacity planning.

Do not assume that a playlist will remain healthy indefinitely just because it starts successfully. Decide how the software detects a stalled input or failed connection, how it resumes, and who or what checks the process. The exact restart and alerting mechanisms are specific to your software and are not defined by YouTube’s encoder instructions.
Create the YouTube Live event and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream. In Live Control Room, set up the broadcast and choose the settings and visibility you intend to use. YouTube distinguishes the broadcast (the event) from the live stream (the feed and settings sent by the encoder); the two are connected for playback.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Enter the destination details shown by YouTube in the encoder’s streaming settings. The key is a credential that identifies where the encoder sends its feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, put it in public logs, or share it with anyone who does not need access. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Set the encoder’s output to match your chosen ingest path. YouTube supports encoder-based streams. Select a protocol your encoder supports and configure its output accordingly; do not copy settings intended for one ingest protocol into another without checking compatibility.
- Start with a private or unlisted test. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room, preview it, and check picture, sound, and continuity before switching to the intended visibility. YouTube recommends previewing and monitoring audio and video quality.
Choose RTMP or HLS with the right expectations
Pick an ingest protocol supported by your encoder and suitable for your latency needs. YouTube states that HLS has higher latency than RTMP. HLS also has specific packaging and delivery requirements; those are not universal settings for RTMP.
If you use HLS ingest
Follow YouTube’s HLS ingestion requirements. The encoder must send a single encoded stream with muxed audio and video over HTTPS using a persistent connection. The media playlist represents a continuous, decodable stream made from segments.

- Use MPEG-TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds; do not use byte ranges.
- Keep a rolling media playlist with no more than five outstanding segments.
- Deliver segments using HTTPS POST or PUT, without encryption beyond HTTPS.
- Use the codecs and packaging formats supported by YouTube’s HLS guidance.
Check the current YouTube specification and your encoder’s documentation together: a playlist format suitable for selecting source videos is not necessarily the same thing as the HLS media playlist used to deliver the encoded feed.

Run a representative test before going public
- Test transitions between several playlist items, including the end of one video and the start of the next.
- Listen for silence, clipped audio, or unexpected volume changes; check the video for freezes, blank intervals, and incorrect aspect ratio.
- Confirm the encoder can reach YouTube and that the Live Control Room preview remains healthy.
- Test what happens if the input file is unavailable or the connection drops. Confirm how your chosen software resumes and whether it requires a manual restart.
Monitor the long-running process
For a 24/7 setup, monitor both the encoder process and the YouTube preview, and check that the source playlist remains available. YouTube recommends continuous monitoring of stream audio and video quality; the specific server-side health checks and recovery actions depend on your software. Keep a local recording if you need a dependable copy of the content rather than relying only on YouTube’s archive.

Understand the archive and DVR limits
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams lasting over 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. Do not plan on a complete YouTube archive for a broadcast left running indefinitely. If an archive matters, record locally and consider whether shorter event sessions fit your needs. Self-managed server or cloud service?
With a self-managed server, you choose and operate the encoder and playlist workflow, and you are responsible for monitoring and recovery. A cloud-based service can reduce the server operations you handle yourself, but verify that it supports your playlist use case, the output you need, and suitable recovery behavior before depending on it. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists Gyre as one example of a cloud continuous-streaming service; that listing is not a comparison of service terms, costs, or reliability.
