To send a live source through Wowza to YouTube, create the destination stream in YouTube Studio, copy its stream URL and key into the matching Wowza product, then confirm the feed in YouTube’s preview before publishing. The steps differ between Wowza Streaming Engine and Wowza Video. Before airing Hindi music, separately confirm you have the rights to rebroadcast each recording and composition; a YouTube playlist or stream key does not grant them.
Before you configure Wowza
- Identify your Wowza product. Wowza Streaming Engine uses a Stream Targets workflow; Wowza Video sends its output to YouTube through an RTMP external-service target. Follow only the section for your product.
- Check YouTube eligibility first. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before troubleshooting the relay. YouTube’s live-streaming guide describes encoder streaming as suitable for broadcasts using overlays and production hardware.
- Have a live source ready. Streaming Engine expects a H.264 camera or encoder feeding a live application. Wowza Video requires a stream output rendition. These instructions relay a live input; they do not turn a playlist into a cleared or authorized music broadcast.
- Protect the stream key. Treat the YouTube stream key like a password. Do not publish it or share it beyond the people and systems that need to configure the broadcast.
Create the YouTube destination
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Streaming page and create or select a stream.
- Enter the stream details, including title, privacy, description and category.
- Copy the generated stream URL and stream name/key. Keep them private; the exact fields required depend on the Wowza product workflow below.
YouTube and Wowza interfaces can change. If a menu label differs, use the current product interface and documentation rather than guessing at a destination field.
Configure Wowza Streaming Engine
- In Wowza Streaming Engine Manager, open a live application.
- Open Stream Targets, add a target under third-party destinations, and choose YouTube Live.
- Enter a unique target name, the incoming source stream name, and the YouTube application or destination details requested by the target configuration.
- Start the H.264 camera or encoder feeding the Wowza application so the live source reaches the target.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and verify that the preview appears and the stream health is acceptable before publishing.
Wowza’s instructions for this route are in Stream to YouTube from Wowza Streaming Engine, updated 2026-08-07.
Configure Wowza Video
- Create the YouTube live stream first and save its stream URL and key, as described above.
- In Wowza Video, select the stream output rendition and choose Add external service.
- Set Provider to RTMP, then enter YouTube’s primary URL and stream key. Wowza’s guide says to omit the RTMP prefix and trailing slash from the primary URL.
- If you use a backup URL, enter it in the same way. The backup URL is optional.
- Leave the target username and password blank, as directed in Wowza’s guide.
- Start the Wowza stream and check playback in YouTube Live before publishing.
In this workflow, Wowza says YouTube performs the transcoding. The product guide was updated 2025-02-24; consult Wowza’s current YouTube Live instructions for Wowza Video if the interface has changed.

Clear the Hindi music before going live
Technical access to a stream does not establish music rights. A playlist is a way to organize videos; its existence or public accessibility does not by itself grant permission to rebroadcast the sound recordings or underlying compositions in a separate live stream. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for every recording and composition, including the territories and type of use involved, before airing the playlist.
YouTube for Artists says channels must follow YouTube policies, including copyright policies. If a Content ID claim is made and you have a valid basis, YouTube says it can be disputed in Studio. A copyright removal request is a legal process, and YouTube’s guidance advises considering applicable copyright exceptions. See YouTube for Artists’ resources and YouTube’s copyright removal request guidance. Do not assume a song is cleared because it appears in a YouTube playlist or because you have permission for a different use.

Test the complete route and troubleshoot
Before making the broadcast public, test from the live source through Wowza to YouTube’s preview. This catches destination and source problems while the broadcast is still private or otherwise not public.
