The native source uses the Custom Widget from your active widget theme. For multiple widgets, an inactive theme’s widget, or a native source that will not load, add the widget as a Browser Source using its theme URL instead.
Add one Custom Widget as a native source
- In Streamlabs Desktop, go to the Sources panel and click +.
- Scroll to Widgets, select Custom Widget, then click Add Source.
- Name the source in the dialog and add it.
- Select the source to open its settings. Adjust Browser Settings if needed, expand Custom Code, and choose Edit Custom Code to access Custom Fields, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
These labels and steps follow Streamlabs’ official Custom Widget guide. Interface labels can vary by Desktop version; if yours differs, use the equivalent source and widget controls in your installed version.
Edit the widget in the Streamlabs dashboard
Streamlabs documents editing from either the dashboard or Desktop, and recommends the dashboard: custom fields are easier to see, more testing options are available, and switching themes is easier there. Sign in and open the Custom Widget in your Streamlabs dashboard; this is an authenticated editor, not an account-free page.
Use the dashboard when you need to inspect or test fields, or when you are managing more than one widget theme. Once the widget is ready, confirm which theme is active before relying on the native Desktop source.

Choose native source or Browser Source

Add multiple widgets or a widget from another theme
- Open the Widget Themes page in your Streamlabs dashboard.
- Find the theme containing the Custom Widget you want and click the link control beside that theme.
- Find Custom Widget in the theme and copy its URL.
- In Streamlabs Desktop, click + in the Sources panel and choose Browser Source.
- Add the source, paste the copied URL, and set its width and height to fit the widget.
- Repeat with a separate Browser Source for each additional Custom Widget URL.
If you are using the native source, make the theme containing the intended Custom Widget active before going live. A native Custom Widget source follows that active theme; use the copied URL route when you need a widget from a different theme.

Keep custom code and widget URLs safe
Custom Widgets execute code, so review code before adding it, particularly if someone else wrote it. Streamlabs’ guide cautions: “Because of the inherent risks of using custom code, we remind you to be extra careful when using code that you did not write.” The guide also says Streamlabs’ team cannot advise users on creating their widgets.
- Use code you understand or can verify before adding it to a widget.
- Treat a widget URL as something to share deliberately, rather than posting it publicly without considering who may use it.
- Test the widget in the dashboard and inspect it in your scene before relying on it during a live stream.
Troubleshoot a Custom Widget that does not appear
The wrong widget appears in the native source
Check which widget theme is active. The native Desktop source uses the Custom Widget associated with that theme. Activate the theme you intended to use, or add the desired widget as a Browser Source with that theme’s URL.

The widget is clipped or has too much empty space
For a Browser Source, revisit its width and height in source settings and size the source to the widget’s layout. If you edit the widget itself, verify its content and styling in the dashboard preview before adjusting the scene dimensions again.
The native source keeps loading on macOS
Streamlabs Support’s April 25, 2025 article describes a reported macOS case with a status of Workaround Available. Its documented workaround is to edit the widget in the dashboard, copy the widget URL, then add that URL in Desktop as a Browser Source. This is a troubleshooting option for that reported case, not evidence that all macOS installations have the issue. See the Streamlabs Support article.

The source does not reflect your latest edits
Confirm that you edited the intended widget and theme in the dashboard, then check whether the source is native or URL-backed. The native source follows the active theme; a Browser Source points to the URL you copied. Recheck the active theme or copied URL, then test the source again.
