First find out whether the black interval is in the stream you send to YouTube or only in playback for some viewers. Check the encoder preview and a local recording around the transition, then compare the YouTube stream on another device or internet connection. That split points you toward the right checks; YouTube does not identify a single known cause or guaranteed fix for black screens between consecutive videos.
1. Check whether the black screen is in the outgoing stream
Watch the encoder preview through a transition between videos. If possible, also inspect the local recording or archive covering the same moment. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the stream directly in the encoder, looking for dashboard errors and high CPU load, and reviewing a local archive for audio or video problems. YouTube Help: troubleshoot live-streaming issues.
- Black in the encoder preview and local recording: the blank interval is present before viewer playback. Inspect the video source and how your encoder or playlist moves from one item to the next. YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a particular playlist transition setting for this symptom.
- Encoder preview looks normal, but the local recording is black: compare the recording and preview around the same transition, and check encoder errors and system load. The mismatch is useful evidence, but does not by itself identify the cause.
- Preview and recording look normal: continue to the connection and viewer checks below.
If you use OBS, its official help portal is OBS Help. The available guidance does not establish a specific OBS setting as the fix for black intervals between videos.
2. Test the outbound connection if the encoder output is healthy
Check the internet connection used to send the stream only after confirming the encoder output looks and sounds healthy. YouTube Help says: “If your stream looks or sounds healthy, there may be an issue with your outbound Internet connection.” Test the connection and contact your internet provider if the test shows a problem. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A connection problem is one possibility, not a diagnosis based on a black interval alone. Note whether audio also cuts out, whether the encoder reports errors, and whether the blank appears at exactly the same transition in the local recording.
3. Find out whether the problem affects viewers or devices
Try the live stream on another supported device and connection. Change one factor at a time—device first, then network—so you can tell whether the symptom follows a particular playback setup. YouTube’s playback help suggests restarting or updating the browser, app, or device, trying another connection, and manually adjusting playback quality where available. These are general playback checks, not a guaranteed remedy for a black interval between videos. YouTube Help: fix video playback issues.

- Only one viewer or device sees the interval: try the playback checks on that device and compare on another connection.
- Several viewers on different connections see it: prioritize checking the encoder preview and local recording. YouTube’s creator guidance notes that reports across different internet connections may point to an encoder issue, but confirm against the actual outgoing feed rather than assuming.
- YouTube playback differs from the encoder preview: record the time and compare the same moment across devices. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers on different devices and networks; that behavior does not establish why a particular interval is black. YouTube Help: live-stream troubleshooting and YouTube Help: encoder settings.
4. Report the issue with useful observations
If it persists, report a viewer-side problem through YouTube’s playback help, or follow YouTube’s live-stream support guidance for a continuing stream issue. Include what you observed rather than just saying “black screen”: whether the encoder preview and local recording also show it, whether audio continues, and whether the problem affects multiple devices or networks.
- Note the time of a black interval and which videos were transitioning.
- Check the same moment in the encoder preview and local recording.
- Compare playback on another device and, if possible, another connection.
- Record whether audio continues and whether the encoder dashboard shows errors or high CPU load.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you have confirmed the problem is in a local computer or encoder workflow and want to remove the home computer from the always-on setup, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports the quality you uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and uploaded video, not live camera input. See StreamNeo, or start your free day.
