FFmpeg reporting that it is sending data does not prove YouTube has received a usable stream. Check the server URL and stream key for the correct Live Control Room stream, inspect FFmpeg’s output, then use YouTube’s preview and stream-health status to see whether ingest is working. The symptom alone does not identify one cause, so work through the checks below rather than changing settings at random.
1. Confirm FFmpeg is sending to the right YouTube stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select the intended stream.
- Open that stream’s Stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key shown there into your FFmpeg configuration.
- Check that the destination URL and key belong to this stream session, not another scheduled or concurrent stream.
- Treat the stream key as a password. Do not publish it or include it in logs you share. If it may be stale or exposed, retrieve or reset it in Live Control Room and update FFmpeg.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions say to enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room in the encoder. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the setup process.
2. Read FFmpeg’s output, not just its running status
Inspect the complete command and relevant log lines. A process that remains open or prints a sending message is not enough to establish that YouTube accepted the feed.
- Check for connection or authentication errors.
- Confirm the intended input streams are mapped to the output, including video and audio if your stream requires both.
- Look for codec, muxing, or output errors that indicate FFmpeg is not producing the expected stream.
- Confirm the output destination uses the URL copied from the selected Live Control Room stream.
YouTube’s general troubleshooting advice includes checking the stream in the encoder, updating the encoder, and reviewing encoder errors. It does not provide a FFmpeg-specific command or flag that fixes every “no data” case. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide covers those general checks.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Check YouTube’s preview and stream health
In Live Control Room, look for a video preview and the stream-health or status message. These are YouTube-side evidence of whether the incoming feed has become usable. If there is no preview, the feed is not yet usable in that stream session, but that observation alone cannot distinguish a URL or key mismatch from an encoder, protocol, account, network, or temporary service issue.
For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s instructions say to wait for the preview and then click Go live. Sending from FFmpeg does not itself replace that step. Follow the current YouTube live-streaming instructions for the stream type you created.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
4. Verify RTMP or RTMPS and the connection details
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Use the actual RTMPS server URL shown in Live Control Room, and check both the protocol and server address in FFmpeg’s destination. A generic message that FFmpeg is sending data does not prove it connected successfully to the intended RTMPS endpoint.
If FFmpeg reports an SSL error, YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance suggests specifying port 443. Check that your FFmpeg build and command support the selected protocol, and use the server details YouTube currently displays rather than guessing or reusing an old address. See YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance.

5. Compare FFmpeg’s output settings with YouTube’s guidance
Settings mismatches are worth checking, but no single mismatch can be assumed to explain “no data” without examining the actual output and YouTube’s status. Compare the stream against YouTube’s current live encoder settings:
| Setting | YouTube’s listed RTMP/RTMPS guidance | What to check in your output |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 | Confirm FFmpeg is encoding the intended codec and that the output is actually carrying video. |
| Frame rate | Up to 60 fps | Check the output frame rate, especially if you changed it from the input. |
| Keyframe interval | Recommended: 2 seconds; should not exceed 4 seconds | Check the encoder’s GOP/keyframe configuration against the stream frame rate. |
| Bitrate mode | CBR recommended | Check whether the output uses constant bitrate encoding. |
| Video bitrate | Varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate; consult YouTube’s current table | Choose the bitrate from the applicable row of YouTube’s table rather than applying one value to every stream. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 | Confirm the mapped audio stream uses a listed codec if audio is included. |
| Resolution | Depends on the stream; consult YouTube’s current settings table | Compare the actual output resolution and frame rate with the relevant bitrate guidance. |
These are recommended and supported settings, not a guarantee that matching them will restore ingest. YouTube’s settings page is the authority for current bitrate values; choose according to codec, resolution, and frame rate instead of relying on a universal bitrate.

6. Check the outbound internet connection
If the stream looks and sounds healthy in FFmpeg or another local encoder view but YouTube still shows no usable preview, check the outbound connection. YouTube identifies connection strength as a possible issue when local output appears healthy. Compare encoder output with Live Control Room’s status, then test the network path; this possibility is not proof that the network is the cause.
7. If it still says “No data,” escalate with safe evidence
If the checks do not resolve the issue, report it through YouTube’s support channels with enough information to diagnose the session without exposing credentials. Include:
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- The FFmpeg command with the stream key redacted.
- Relevant FFmpeg log lines, with any credentials removed.
- The protocol and server hostname, but not the secret key.
- The time of the attempt and which Live Control Room stream was selected.
- The preview state and the exact stream-health or error message shown.
YouTube recommends reporting persistent problems in its troubleshooting guidance. Without the command, logs, stream configuration, and account and network state, the cause cannot be determined from “FFmpeg is sending” alone.
