Match the width and height FFmpeg sends to YouTube with the resolution selected in YouTube Live Control Room. An FFmpeg loop repeats frames; it does not set the stream’s output resolution. Check the encoded output dimensions first, then adjust the output size or scaling only if they differ from YouTube’s selected setting.
What the resolution warning means
YouTube’s Live Control Room checks the video stream it receives. Its resolution warning means the encoded video’s width and height do not match the resolution selected under Ingestion Settings. YouTube describes warnings for a resolution that is not optimal and for one that is unsupported by the selected configuration; in the latter case, the message gives the expected resolution. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages.
Use the dimensions YouTube expects as the target—not an assumed target based only on the source file. A filter, encoder option or other part of the command may change the dimensions before the stream is sent.
Fix the mismatch without breaking the loop
- Read the complete warning. In Live Control Room, note the resolution chosen in Ingestion Settings and any expected dimensions shown in the warning.
- Check FFmpeg’s encoded output dimensions. Confirm what the stream actually sends, rather than assuming the input file’s dimensions survive the full filter and encoding chain.
- Make the output match YouTube’s target. If the dimensions differ, set the intended output size or place a
scalefilter where it belongs in the filter chain. FFmpeg’s-soption adds a scale filter at the end of the output filter graph; use thescalefilter directly when placement matters. See FFmpeg’s documentation. - Check the stream key’s resolution setting. YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. If you chose a manual resolution using a custom stream key, ensure FFmpeg sends matching dimensions. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- Preview and monitor the stream. Test with representative movement and audio, check the Live Control Room preview and watch stream health before relying on the loop. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth headroom: its streaming tips call for 20% extra bandwidth, accounting for primary and backup streams when both are used. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Why looping and resolution are separate
FFmpeg’s loop video filter repeats video frames; loop=-1 means repeat indefinitely. It controls repetition, not frame width or height. So a loop can run continuously while still sending dimensions YouTube rejects or flags. Preserve the working loop and audio mapping unless you have evidence they are causing a separate problem.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Changing output dimensions can involve scaling the picture, so consider the source aspect ratio and the target dimensions. The fix is not automatically to choose a larger resolution: it is to make the encoded dimensions agree with the resolution selected for ingestion.
Choose automatic or manual resolution deliberately
- Automatic detection: YouTube recommends this default, which detects resolution and frame rate.
- Manual selection: A custom stream key can set a resolution manually. Make the encoder output match that selection.
Whichever option you use, keep resolution and frame rate in mind when choosing codec and bitrate. YouTube’s encoder guidance for RTMP/RTMPS permits H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, recommends a 2-second keyframe interval with a maximum of 4 seconds, and specifies CBR. Its H.264 recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 12 Mbps for 1080p60. These are YouTube’s published recommendations on the encoder settings page, accessed in 2026; they are not independent performance measurements. Check the current table for the codec, resolution and frame rate you intend to use, and choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain. The inspected page does not state a publication year. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

Common causes and fixes
- The loop setting was mistaken for a size setting: looping repeats frames but does not set output dimensions. Set or scale the output to YouTube’s selected resolution.
- The source dimensions were assumed to be the output dimensions: inspect the encoded stream and account for every filter and output option.
- The stream key is set to a different manual resolution: align its selected resolution with FFmpeg, or use YouTube’s recommended automatic detection.
- The warning remains after changing size: verify the actual encoded dimensions and check codec, bitrate, frame rate and other stream-health messages. Preview again before going live.
- The stream is unstable as well as flagged: check that upload capacity can sustain the chosen settings and leave the recommended bandwidth headroom.
Why there is no safe one-line command for every case
The right edit depends on your existing command, input and output dimensions, filter chain, selected YouTube resolution, codec and frame rate. Without those details, replacing the command could break a working loop or audio mapping. The reliable general correction is to make the encoded output dimensions match YouTube’s selected ingestion dimensions; the exact location for a size change depends on where dimensions change in your command.
