You can stream a prerecorded video or playlist to YouTube Live from a Windows PC by using encoder software: create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, enter its server URL and stream key in the encoder, then play and loop your local media. Before a long broadcast, confirm your channel is eligible, clear the media rights, test your upload connection and plan for power, network and archive limits. This workflow works in India; YouTube’s reviewed setup guidance does not specify a separate India-only process or minimum upload speed.
Before you set up the stream
Check channel eligibility
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also states that users must be at least 16 years old to live stream. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before investing time in a long-running setup; eligibility and interface details can change. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
Use media you can legally stream
Use video and audio you created or have permission to broadcast. Music or footage being publicly available online does not mean it is cleared for a live stream. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. A rights holder may interrupt a stream, and licensed third-party material may require the rights owner to allowlist your channel in Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and confirm any necessary clearance with the rights holder.
Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create > Go live.
- Choose the encoder option. Create a new stream or schedule one, then review its title, visibility and other stream details.
- In the stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key YouTube provides. The encoder needs both to connect to YouTube Live. Keep the key private, as you would a password; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- In your Windows encoder’s streaming settings, select YouTube or a custom RTMP/RTMPS destination as appropriate, then enter the server URL and stream key. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its encoder setup instructions describe the connection process.
If a stream key is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before using the stream again. Do not post screenshots or recordings that reveal it.

Configure the video loop in Windows
Choose encoder software that can play a local video file or playlist and repeat it. Add the source media, enable its loop or playlist-repeat control, and confirm that the encoder is sending both the picture and the intended audio. Exact controls vary by software version; check the current documentation for the encoder you use rather than relying on outdated menu instructions.
For a playlist, verify the order, transitions or gaps between files, audio levels, and what happens when the final item ends. Keep the files in a stable local location and avoid moving, renaming or disconnecting them while the encoder is running. A capture card, webcam and microphone are not required for straightforward playback of local prerecorded files.

Choose settings your connection can sustain
Do not choose resolution or bitrate just because the encoder offers it. Measure your actual upload connection, then select a bitrate and quality that remain stable under ordinary household network use. There is no India-specific upload-speed threshold established by YouTube’s reviewed setup instructions; the usable rate depends on your connection and the settings you choose. Use YouTube’s current live encoder settings recommendations for supported resolutions, frame rates, bitrates and keyframe settings.
- Upload capacity: Check upload speed, not just download speed. Leave headroom rather than running the stream at the full measured upload rate.
- Resolution and frame rate: Start with a combination your connection and PC can sustain. Higher settings increase the amount of data and processing required.
- Keyframes and bitrate: Follow YouTube’s current recommendations for the chosen resolution and frame rate. Avoid copying a setting from a different quality target without checking the corresponding guidance.
- Audio: Check that the correct audio source is selected and that levels are audible without clipping.
- Transport: Use RTMPS where available, in line with YouTube’s recommendation.
Test privately, then monitor the live stream
- Start with a private or unlisted test stream, if appropriate for your channel and intended audience.
- Send representative footage—not only a static frame—so you can assess motion, picture quality and audio.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators. Look for dropped frames, unstable delivery, missing audio or a delayed preview.
- If the feed is unstable, lower the bitrate or quality and test again. Also check that no other activity is consuming most of the upload bandwidth.
- When the test is satisfactory, confirm the stream’s visibility and details before starting the public broadcast.
A successful test only shows how this setup behaved at that time. It does not guarantee a future stream will remain connected.

What a local 24/7 stream requires
With local encoding, the Windows PC is the playout system. It must remain powered on, awake and connected to the internet; the encoder must keep running; and all source files must remain available. A power cut, Windows restart, encoder crash, network interruption or missing file can interrupt the feed. Plan for those risks and check the stream rather than treating a local loop as unattended uptime.
A local setup avoids a cloud-service fee but depends on your own computer, electricity and internet connection. Hosted cloud playout shifts the encoder runtime to a provider, but adds provider pricing, access and reliability terms; verify those details directly before choosing one.

Decide how to preserve the archive
YouTube may automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. If retaining the broadcast matters, schedule shorter sessions or keep an independent local recording and verify that it is actually being saved. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

A loop does not grant rights
Repeating a video does not change whether you have the right to stream it. Resolve copyright permissions before going live, and check whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel in Content ID to prevent interruptions.

A live feed does not guarantee monetization
YouTube’s channel monetization policies say repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible under its inauthentic-content policy. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that this category was “inauthentic content”; it said this type of material was already ineligible under existing policy. A repeated feed therefore does not by itself qualify a channel for monetization. For YouTube Partner Program eligibility, YouTube also requires residence in a country or region where the program is available. Check current regional and account eligibility in Studio rather than assuming that permission to go live means monetization is approved. Troubleshoot common problems
