Diagnose where the failure occurs: check the stream key and ingest settings if FFmpeg will not start, then test sustained Jio upload capacity and mobile-data settings if a running stream drops. YouTube recommends keeping total stream bitrate within available upload bandwidth, with 20% headroom.
First identify when the stream disconnects
Note whether FFmpeg fails before streaming starts, runs for a while and then disconnects, or reports a specific encoder, network, or protocol error. Record the time and location, the exact error text, and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream status or metrics. Those details help distinguish an authentication or ingest problem from an unstable uplink.
- It will not start: check the current stream key, destination URL, protocol, and port.
- It starts, then drops: check sustained upload capacity and Jio mobile-data settings during the affected hours and at the affected location.
- The cause is unclear: compare YouTube’s status and metrics with FFmpeg’s logs and a concurrent upload test.
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder health and outbound internet. Viewer reports can provide context, but they do not by themselves prove what caused the broadcaster’s disconnect.
Check the YouTube stream key and destination
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and verify that you are using the active stream key and current server or ingest URL. If a third-party encoder has trouble starting, YouTube recommends obtaining a new stream key and updating the encoder.
- Check that the FFmpeg destination uses the protocol and endpoint shown in YouTube’s current live setup. Do not rely on an old command or copied endpoint without verifying it.
- If using RTMPS and FFmpeg reports an SSL error despite an apparently correct URL, check the port as well as the endpoint. YouTube’s RTMPS guidance notes that an SSL error can occur when a client connects to the wrong port.
RTMPS is RTMP sent through an SSL connection. FFmpeg documents RTMP as multimedia streaming over TCP/IP. Its TCP keepalive option can help detect dead peers; it is not an automatic reconnect feature and does not guarantee stream recovery.

Treat the stream key like a password: do not include it in public logs, screenshots, or support posts. Redact it before sharing diagnostic information.
Check Jio upload capacity under streaming conditions
YouTube says the total bitrate of a stream cannot exceed the upload bandwidth available and recommends leaving 20% headroom. That is operational guidance, not a guarantee that a stream will remain connected. YouTube also warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. YouTube’s network and streaming tips

- Measure outbound upload on the Jio connection at the location and times when disconnects occur. If possible, measure while FFmpeg is streaming; an idle speed test cannot establish that a mobile connection will remain stable under sustained load.
- Compare the available upload capacity with the combined bitrate being sent. Keep the stream below sustained capacity and allow YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- If capacity varies or the stream drops, lower the bitrate as a diagnostic and see whether the connection remains stable. Compare Wi-Fi or another carrier at the same place and time if one is available.
If a drop tracks a particular location, time, or movement, repeat the tests under those conditions and compare results. This is a way to isolate a network pattern, not evidence of a confirmed Jio-wide issue or a particular cause at a local cell site.
Check Jio mobile-data settings
Android
- Put the Jio SIM in an LTE-enabled SIM slot.
- Make sure internet access is routed through the Jio SIM, select LTE/4G, and confirm mobile data is enabled.
- Check that a mobile-data limit has not disabled the connection.
- If roaming, Jio’s Android FAQ says to enable mobile data while roaming for uninterrupted internet service.
iPhone
- Confirm Mobile Data is turned on for the phone.
These checks confirm configuration only; they do not establish local signal quality, sustained upload speed, or freedom from congestion. Jio lists video and music streaming and uploading large files among activities that can use substantial data. For a long stream, check your plan and current data balance in Jio’s account tools.

If settings are correct but upload remains unstable, use Jio’s slow-internet support page and its current support workflow. Provide the time and location, network mode, repeated upload observations, and whether another connection works. No particular reset or APN change is established here as a fix.
Use the evidence to choose the next step

For comparisons between connections, use the same location and time where possible. Compare sustained outbound upload and its variability, whether the stream stays connected at the same bitrate, and what YouTube Live reports. What to include when asking for help
- FFmpeg version and build information, plus the exact error text with the stream key and other secrets removed.
- Disconnect timestamps and the affected location, along with the phone’s network mode.
- YouTube Live Control Room status or relevant metrics at the time of the failure.
- Repeated outbound-upload observations, including whether they were taken while streaming, and whether another connection behaves differently.
These details help support teams assess whether the evidence points toward credentials, endpoint or protocol settings, encoder behavior, or outbound connectivity. The available guidance does not establish a single Jio-specific incompatibility between Jio, FFmpeg, and YouTube Live.
