To loop a Malayalam pre-recorded video on YouTube Live at 720p, use OBS Studio: add the file as a Media Source, enable Loop, set the output resolution to 1280×720, then connect OBS to a YouTube Studio encoder stream with its stream URL and key. For H.264, YouTube’s current recommendation is 8 Mbps at 720p; use CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. The file repeats in OBS—not through a YouTube bitrate setting.
Set up a looping video in OBS
- Create a scene and add the video. In OBS, select or create a scene, then use Sources → + → Media Source. Choose the Malayalam video file and enable Loop in the source properties. This repeats one file when playback reaches its end. OBS’s Media Sources documentation, dated 2022-01-11, describes this control: OBS Media Sources.
- For multiple videos, use a playlist source. Add a VLC Video source, add the files to its playlist and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for this source to work. See OBS Media Sources.
- Set the canvas and output. In OBS, open Settings → Video and set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720. Choose a Common FPS Value that matches the source when practical. For typical 720p material, 30 fps is a sensible starting point; use 60 fps only when the source’s motion benefits from it and your computer can sustain the extra load. OBS notes that 60 fps can be more demanding. OBS standard setup guides.
- Configure streaming output. Open Settings → Output → Streaming. Select H.264, set Rate Control to CBR and Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. YouTube accepts H.264, H.265 and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS and says the keyframe interval should not exceed 4 seconds. For ordinary stereo audio, use AAC or MP3 at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz stereo. These are YouTube Help recommendations; the settings page does not display a publication year. YouTube encoder settings.
Choose the bitrate for 720p
YouTube’s bitrate table lists the following recommendations. These figures are YouTube guidance, not results of a named study, and the page does not state a publication year.
| Output and codec | Minimum video bitrate | Recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30, H.264 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60, H.264 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p30 or 720p60, AV1 or H.265 | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
For a first setup, H.264 is a broadly supported encoder choice. Choose a bitrate your measured upload connection can sustain, and leave capacity for other network traffic. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. The video bitrate is not the total upload requirement: audio and network overhead also use bandwidth. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate recommendations when configuring your stream.
Connect OBS to YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. You may need to enable live streaming for the channel before the first broadcast.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream settings into OBS under Settings → Stream. Select RTMPS if it is available in your setup; YouTube recommends the encrypted protocol. The URL is the ingest destination, while the key associates your encoder with the YouTube stream. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. See YouTube Live encoder setup and YouTube stream keys.
- YouTube defaults to automatically detecting encoder resolution and frame rate. Keep that setting unless you specifically need a fixed ingest format; manual resolution selection is available with a custom stream key and manual settings. YouTube encoder settings.
- Start streaming in OBS and confirm the feed appears in the Live Control Room preview. Start the YouTube broadcast when the preview and stream health are ready.
Test the loop and protect stream quality
Before relying on a long broadcast, run a private or unlisted test. Confirm the video plays, audio is audible, and the transition from the end back to the beginning works as intended. Watch the Live Control Room’s stream health and messages, and test with similar motion and audio to the material you intend to broadcast.

- For a scheduled event, YouTube’s streaming tips say to set up the encoder at least two hours beforehand and start it at least 15 minutes before the event. YouTube live streaming tips.
- Use normal or low latency if viewers do not need to interact in real time. Lower latency can increase buffering. DVR lets viewers pause and rewind; choose it based on the viewing experience you want. YouTube live streaming tips.
Check rights and YouTube policy before broadcasting
Technical setup does not establish permission to rebroadcast a particular video. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for the exact Malayalam recording and every included element—such as music, lyrics, translations, artwork and other audio or visual material. Also ensure the channel and stream comply with YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-streaming policies. A language or devotional purpose does not itself clear copyrighted material.
Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The video ends and does not restart | Loop is off on the Media Source, or a playlist is not set to repeat. | Open the source properties and enable Loop for one file, or Loop Playlist for a VLC Video source. |
| OBS cannot play the playlist | VLC is not installed, or the playlist files are unavailable. | Install VLC and verify each file path in the playlist. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Wrong stream URL or key, stream key mismatch, or incorrect encoder connection settings. | Copy the URL and key for the intended Live Control Room stream again. Keep the key private. |
| Stream health reports instability or viewers see buffering | The upload connection may not sustain the selected bitrate, especially with other traffic. | Check measured upload bandwidth, lower the bitrate if needed, and preserve 20% headroom. |
| Output looks soft, cropped or unlike the source | Output resolution or frame-rate choices do not suit the source or scene. | Confirm Output (Scaled) Resolution is 1280×720 and choose a frame rate that matches the material. Check the preview before going live. |
| Audio is missing or distorted | Source audio or OBS audio output may be misconfigured. | Check the Media Source audio and OBS mixer meters, then verify the selected audio codec, bitrate and sample rate against YouTube’s guidance. |
Or let it run in the cloud
OBS is the do-it-yourself option, but the computer running it and its internet connection have to remain available. StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and uploaded videos, not camera broadcasting. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
