To run recorded piano theory classes as a continuous YouTube Live stream, prepare your channel, create a broadcast in YouTube Studio, and connect an encoder that can play your lessons in a loop. A computer running streaming software is the do-it-yourself route; a cloud playout service can keep playback running without a computer at home. Neither route guarantees uninterrupted playback or monetization: plan for dropped connections, replay limits, and rights checks.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and timing
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until the intended launch time. YouTube’s live streaming setup guide
- Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions. YouTube’s eligibility guidance includes a 90-day restriction lookback and a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. YouTube’s live streaming restrictions
- Gather the finished lesson files and decide the order in which they should play. Confirm that you have the rights needed for every element in them, including performances, sheet-music displays, and embedded audio or video.
Create the YouTube Live broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling creates a watch page viewers can share and lets them set reminders. Follow the current options shown in Studio; labels and interface details can change. YouTube’s live streaming setup guide
- Choose an encoder. YouTube supports computer software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. An encoder prepares video for delivery to YouTube; YouTube’s guide does not prescribe a particular computer specification or certify a specific playlist setup.
- In Live Control Room, find the stream URL and stream key. In your encoder, select YouTube if it offers that integration. Otherwise, paste the URL and key into its stream settings.
- Configure the encoder’s media source or playlist to play the class recordings in the intended order and repeat them as required. Playlist and looping controls vary by encoder, so check that application’s current documentation and test the sequence before relying on it for a long broadcast.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. For a scheduled broadcast, click “Go live” after the preview appears. Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
Keep a local stream running
With local playout, the computer, lesson files, encoder, power, and internet connection all need to remain available. A failure in any of them can interrupt the feed. YouTube documents the encoder connection workflow, but does not specify a tested 24/7 recovery design or required hardware.
Prepare the computer and media
- Use a computer that can run your chosen encoder and play the lesson files at the resolution you intend to send. There is no universally suitable CPU, memory, storage, or network specification in YouTube’s cited setup guidance; requirements depend on the media and encoder.
- Keep the source files accessible to the encoder for the entire session. Test that playback advances from one class to the next and returns to the start of the playlist if that is your intended behavior.
- Arrange reliable power and internet access, and decide who will notice a stopped feed. A local setup needs a person or monitoring arrangement able to respond when the computer, network, or encoder fails.
Test before the public launch
- Run the playlist through the encoder and inspect the YouTube preview for picture, sound, and lesson order.
- Confirm the scheduled watch page and stream status in Live Control Room before promoting the broadcast.
- Test what happens when a file ends, the playlist reaches its end, or the encoder loses its source. Do not assume that YouTube will restart local playback after an encoder or computer failure.
Choose a replay plan for long sessions
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a continuous session lasting 12 hours or more will produce one complete replay. If viewers need lesson replays, plan a session length and archive workflow around the current behavior shown in Live Control Room, and verify the resulting archive rather than promising a single complete recording. YouTube’s live stream archiving guidance
Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the feed with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; a stream can be interrupted or terminated if the matched content remains. An existing license may not prevent a live interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Archived streams may also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance

Understand what repeated lessons mean for monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies also apply to live streams. The platform expects original, authentic content and says repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible. Similar episodes can qualify when each has materially different substance and provides creative, educational, or other value. A library of genuinely distinct piano theory classes may have educational substance, but looping recordings continuously does not guarantee approval or continued monetization. YouTube says reviewers may consider a channel’s theme, popular and recent videos, share of watch time, metadata, and About section. YouTube channel monetization policies (policy clarification dated July 15, 2025)
Make the educational purpose and differences between lessons clear in titles, descriptions, and channel information. Do not treat a continuously repeated playlist as proof that the channel meets monetization requirements.
