Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a Windows PC that must encode scenes locally, OBS Studio is the strongest starting point: YouTube lists it in its verified encoder directory, and it gives you control over scenes and encoding. But no software alone guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 4K60 broadcast. Your encoder, PC, sustained upload, power, Windows behavior, monitoring and recovery plan all matter.
If you are looping prerecorded video and want the channel to stay live without keeping a PC on, managed cloud playout may fit better. StreamNeo is one option: upload a video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live from the cloud. For a live camera, game or event feed, use a local encoder such as OBS instead.
Which Windows software should you choose?
| Option | Best fit | What is established | What is not established |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio | Windows operators who need local scene and encoder control for a live game, camera, event or other real-time source. | YouTube lists OBS in its verified encoder directory. OBS publishes Windows requirements and warns that meeting them does not guarantee streaming performance. | No reviewed official source establishes guaranteed 24/7 reliability or certifies a particular PC for 4K60. |
| Streamlabs Desktop | Creators who prefer guided setup and integrated creator features. | Streamlabs publishes Windows requirements, including a minimum of 8 GB RAM and a recommendation of 16 GB or more. | The published material does not show that it is more reliable than OBS for unattended 24/7 operation, or certify a PC for 4K60. |
| StreamNeo | Prerecorded video or playlists that should run continuously on YouTube without an always-on Windows PC. | It runs uploaded videos in the cloud, loops them, and can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. | It is not a camera or live-game encoder; it plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube only. |
| Gyre | Another cloud-playout option to consider for prerecorded continuous streams. | YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded streams, including Full HD and 4K at 30/60 FPS. | YouTube’s directory does not establish its uptime guarantees, price, suitability for arbitrary live sources or current partner economics. |
For a Windows-first live production workflow, start with OBS. Choose Streamlabs if its guided setup and integrated features suit you better, but make the decision based on workflow—not an assumed uptime advantage. For prerecorded continuous playout, StreamNeo comes first as the cloud alternative: it stays on from the cloud, streams uploaded video at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
What 4K60 stream settings does YouTube recommend?
YouTube’s live encoder settings, accessed in 2026, specify these 4K/2160p 60fps video bitrates. They are ingest recommendations, not a guarantee that a connection with the same nominal upload speed will remain stable.

| Video codec | YouTube minimum | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
Leave upload headroom above the video bitrate and test the actual network route under representative conditions. Other traffic, fluctuations in your connection and the route to YouTube can affect delivery; a speed-test result alone does not establish that a sustained live stream will be stable.
Core encoder settings
- Protocol: Use RTMPS where your encoder supports it; YouTube recommends RTMPS. YouTube’s supported live protocols include RTMP/RTMPS.
- Codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265 and AV1. Choose only a codec your encoder and hardware can actually produce.
- Rate control: Set constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Use a two-second interval. YouTube says it should not exceed four seconds.
- Resolution and frame rate: Confirm the encoder is outputting 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps if that is the intended stream; do not assume that selecting a 4K source automatically produces 4K60 output.
- Audio: For stereo, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 Kbps; its advanced settings list 44.1 kHz stereo.
YouTube can detect resolution and frame rate by default. Manual selection is available with a custom stream key. Also note that YouTube says 4K/2160p does not offer low-latency optimization; 4K streaming is optimized for quality at normal latency.

Can OBS run a 24/7 YouTube livestream?
Yes, OBS can be used to encode a continuous YouTube stream, but “can run” is not the same as “will stay up unattended.” OBS’s published basic Windows requirements are Windows 10 or 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU. OBS explicitly cautions: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” CPU needs vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity.
Streamlabs’ current requirements page, last updated April 8, 2026, lists Windows 11 and 8 GB RAM as minimums and recommends 16 GB or more along with stronger CPU/GPU and SSD resources. These are general published requirements, not certification that a specific setup can encode a particular 4K60 scene continuously. Neither vendor’s requirements page proves long-run reliability.

Choose the workload before judging the PC
- A static playlist, a game with rapid motion, a multi-source scene and a camera feed can place different demands on the encoder and system.
- Hardware encoding can reduce some CPU work, but the available encoder and supported codec depend on the PC’s hardware and software configuration.
- A PC that handles a short test may still encounter problems over a long run from heat, power interruption, operating-system behavior, network variation or an application failure.
There is no official, controlled head-to-head long-duration reliability test establishing that OBS or Streamlabs is best for unattended 24/7 4K60. Treat stability as a whole-system outcome, not a software checkbox.
Set up and test a local Windows stream
- Prepare the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and configure the stream. Use the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it, and reset it if it is compromised.
- Configure the encoder. In OBS or Streamlabs, enter YouTube’s ingest URL and stream key, choose RTMPS if available, select a supported codec, set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and set the intended resolution and frame rate. Match bitrate to the codec-specific 4K60 recommendation above while leaving network headroom.
- Configure audio and the scene. Check the intended audio source and stereo output. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream, so a test with a silent still image is not representative of a high-motion game or music-heavy program.
- Preview before going public. Start a test broadcast or use the available preview workflow. Check the Live Control Room preview, stream-health messages, audio and video quality, and the view from relevant devices.
- Test recovery and monitoring. YouTube advises testing failover for encoder workflows. Decide who or what will notice a dropped stream, how it will be restarted, and whether your encoder and broadcast settings behave as expected after a restart.
- Review YouTube stream options. Stream settings include options such as DVR, auto-start and auto-stop. Set them deliberately for your format rather than assuming defaults match a continuous channel.
What to check when 4K60 will not stay healthy
| Symptom | Likely area to inspect | Practical check or correction |
|---|---|---|
| Stream health reports instability or the stream drops | Upload capacity, network variation, competing traffic or the route to YouTube. | Compare actual encoder bitrate with sustained upload under load; reduce competing traffic or lower bitrate/resolution until the route is stable, then retest. |
| Encoder overload, dropped frames or choppy output | PC workload, encoder choice, scene complexity or thermal/power behavior. | Check encoder statistics and system load; simplify the scene or use a supported hardware encoder. Test the intended content for a sustained period rather than extrapolating from a short run. |
| Broadcast appears at the wrong resolution or frame rate | Encoder output settings or YouTube’s detected settings. | Verify encoder output is set to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps and inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health; use manual selection with a custom key if appropriate. |
| Stream does not connect | Ingest URL, stream key, protocol or broadcast configuration. | Recheck the URL and key in YouTube stream settings, confirm the encoder uses a supported protocol, and reset the key if it may have been exposed. |
| Video runs but audio is absent or unsuitable | Audio source selection, encoder audio track or format settings. | Confirm the active source and stereo output, and test with the actual program audio before relying on the broadcast. |
| Stream stops while the PC is unattended | Power loss, Windows or application behavior, network interruption or a YouTube disconnect. | Review logs and stream-health messages, test restart/failover behavior, and arrange monitoring and recovery. If the source is prerecorded, consider cloud playout instead of depending on a home PC. |
Local encoding or cloud playout?
OBS and Streamlabs encode a live source on your Windows machine, which is the appropriate approach when you need live scene switching or are broadcasting a camera, game or event. Cloud playout is different: it takes uploaded prerecorded video and keeps that material running as a YouTube stream. YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud option for 24/7 prerecorded streams, including Full HD and 4K at 30/60 FPS; that listing is not an independent uptime or pricing comparison.
