Scheduling creates the event; it does not send video or audio by itself. With auto-start enabled, starting Wirecast’s encoder output can start the scheduled event. You can still use YouTube’s manual Go live control if needed.
What you need before scheduling
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Wirecast installed and configured to send the video and audio you want to stream.
- The correct YouTube account and scheduled event selected in Wirecast. If you use a server-and-stream-key destination, you will also need YouTube’s stream URL and stream key.
A stream key is a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not share it publicly, and check that Wirecast is using the intended key and event before going live. YouTube explains its encoder connection workflow in its encoder setup and schedule instructions.
Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live to open the Live Control Room.
- Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.
- Create a new stream, or choose to reuse settings from a previous stream.
- Review the event details, including title, description, visibility, and scheduled date and time. Set other available event options as appropriate, then save.
- Open the scheduled event’s stream settings and check Auto-start. Set Auto-stop as you prefer; it controls whether the stream can be stopped from the encoder. YouTube says these settings allow starting or stopping from the encoder when enabled (Manage live stream settings).
If you reused settings, verify both toggles rather than assuming their state: YouTube carries the previous stream’s auto-start and auto-stop selections into the new event. A scheduled stream may appear as upcoming, allowing viewers to opt into reminders.
Connect Wirecast to the scheduled event
- In Wirecast, choose or configure the YouTube destination and associate it with the scheduled YouTube event. The exact menu sequence and labels depend on your Wirecast release and destination mode.
- If the destination uses YouTube’s server-and-key workflow, copy the stream URL and key from the correct YouTube event into Wirecast’s destination settings. Treat the key as sensitive credential information.
- Find the destination or event option that starts the YouTube event when Wirecast begins streaming, and enable it if available. Telestream’s Wirecast 11 Windows guide calls this Automatically Start Event; it describes the option as starting the YouTube event when streaming begins. That documentation is for Wirecast 11 on Windows, not a guarantee of the same label or control in every current release (Wirecast 11 Windows User Guide).
- Confirm the YouTube account, event, destination, server URL, and key are all the intended ones before starting output.
Telestream organizes its Wirecast documentation by version and maintains a version history, which records YouTube integration changes and fixes. If your interface differs from the legacy guide, use the documentation for your installed version rather than relying on an old screenshot or label.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Start the stream and verify it is live
- Start Wirecast’s encoder output at the planned time.
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, confirm the preview shows the expected picture and that audio is present. Check the stream health information before relying on the event.
- With YouTube auto-start and Wirecast’s event-start control enabled for the selected event, the encoder feed should trigger the scheduled event. Confirm the event is live in the Control Room.
- If the event does not start automatically, use the troubleshooting checks below. If the workflow requires manual launch, wait for the preview and select Go live in the Live Control Room.
YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours ahead and starting them at least 15 minutes before the event. It also advises checking the preview, testing the setup, and monitoring stream health (YouTube streaming tips). These are YouTube’s operational recommendations, not a guarantee that every connection or event will start without intervention.
Choose automatic or manual launch
| Workflow | What starts the public event | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-start enabled | Start Wirecast’s stream output; YouTube can start the event from the encoder feed. | Auto-start is enabled for the selected event, Wirecast targets the correct account and event, and the preview and stream health look right. |
| Manual YouTube launch | Start Wirecast output, confirm the preview, then select Go live in Live Control Room. | Correct stream URL and key, preview, and manual launch at the scheduled time. |
The manual route is a practical fallback if auto-start is off or your installed Wirecast version does not expose the expected event-start control. YouTube’s encoder guide and stream settings guide describe the platform-side workflow; the legacy Wirecast 11 guide documents its version-specific control.

Troubleshooting automatic start
- Wirecast sends video, but the scheduled event does not go live: Check that YouTube Auto-start is enabled on this event and that Wirecast’s event-start control is enabled, if present. Confirm Wirecast is connected to the scheduled event rather than a different destination. If necessary, use the Control Room’s manual Go live control.
- The Control Room preview does not appear: Confirm Wirecast is streaming to the correct YouTube server URL and stream key, and that its output is actually running. Verify the YouTube account and event selection.
- The wrong event receives the feed: Stop output if needed, then verify the account and scheduled event selected in Wirecast before reconnecting. Check the stream URL and key against the intended event.
- Wirecast has no option with the documented label: The direct instruction for Automatically Start Event is from Wirecast 11 for Windows. Consult Telestream’s documentation index for your release and operating system; do not assume a legacy label exists in the current interface.
- Video appears but audio is missing or unexpected: Check Wirecast’s selected audio sources and confirm audio in the YouTube preview before the event. YouTube recommends previewing and testing the setup ahead of time (streaming tips).
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel playing uploaded videos rather than a Wirecast production, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
