What MediaPackage does in a live workflow
AWS describes MediaPackage as a service for packaging and originating live, video-on-demand (VOD), live-to-VOD, and catch-up TV content. In its documented live flow, an upstream encoder such as MediaLive sends a live HLS stream to a MediaPackage channel. A player or content delivery network (CDN) requests an output from a MediaPackage endpoint, and MediaPackage dynamically packages the stream for playback.
AWS’s getting-started documentation makes the roles clear: the channel receives live content from an encoder, while endpoints provide output for players or downstream CDNs. Multiple endpoints can serve different output settings or formats. That is a packaging-and-delivery function, not a documented schedule for replaying a file.

Where the looping step belongs
A separate upstream source, playout system, or encoder must repeatedly play the prerecorded material and emit a continuous live stream. MediaPackage may then be used downstream if its packaging and origination capabilities are needed. In that arrangement, the upstream component creates the continuous output; MediaPackage packages and serves it.
AWS documents MediaLive as one possible upstream encoder and lists certain prerecorded input types. Its input documentation includes MP4 as a VOD input, and describes HLS input as live or VOD depending on its buffer-segment setting. It also lists static TS file inputs and MP4/HLS paths from HTTP(S) servers or S3. Those input capabilities do not establish that MediaLive automatically repeats an asset indefinitely, so do not assume a loop setting from VOD ingestion support alone.

AWS MediaLive supported inputs
Does this make a working YouTube Live setup?
Not by itself. The AWS documentation cited here explains AWS service roles and input types; it does not establish YouTube’s current ingest protocol, accepted endpoint formats, or a direct MediaPackage-to-YouTube integration. In particular, do not assume a MediaPackage endpoint can be entered as YouTube’s ingest URL.
Before choosing an architecture, verify YouTube’s current official live-streaming and encoder requirements, then confirm that the upstream component’s output and any intermediate packaging or delivery path are supported. Whether MediaPackage belongs between the encoder and YouTube depends on that specific path; the cited AWS documentation does not settle it.

A practical architecture check
- Choose the component that repeats the video. It must play the prerecorded material continuously and create a live output. MediaPackage is not documented as doing this.
- Decide whether packaging is needed. Add MediaPackage only if its packaging or origination functions suit the workflow; it is a stage after the live output is created, not the loop mechanism.
- Validate the destination path. Check the current official YouTube requirements for the encoder output and ingest route before configuring a production stream. The AWS sources above do not provide a complete AWS-to-YouTube recipe.
