If audio keeps playing while a YouTube 24/7 stream’s picture is frozen, the symptom alone does not reveal whether the fault is in the stream, your device or app, or your internet connection. YouTube does not identify this exact audio-and-video split as a distinct error. Work through the checks below to narrow down where it is happening; they follow YouTube’s general playback and live-stream guidance and are not a guaranteed fix for this specific symptom.
First, find out whether the problem is local or widespread
Before changing settings, compare what is failing. These comparisons help isolate the likely area, but they are not definitive diagnoses.
- Try another live stream. If other streams play normally, the issue may be specific to the original stream.
- Try the same stream on another supported device. If it works there, focus on the original device, app, or browser.
- Compare connections if possible. If the picture recovers on a different connection, or other services also struggle on the original one, investigate the network.
YouTube’s playback guidance recommends trying another device and internet connection when troubleshooting video problems. YouTube’s computer troubleshooting steps and video-error guidance do not attribute this exact symptom to one cause.
Viewer-side fixes to try
1. Switch to a different internet connection
Replay the stream using another available connection, such as a different Wi-Fi network or a mobile connection. On a TV, check the connection speed and whether the device is close enough to the router without walls or other interference disrupting the signal. Reducing network use by other devices can also help you test whether congestion is involved. For compatible equipment, using Ethernet can be an optional comparison with Wi-Fi, not a guaranteed fix.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Restart playback and update the software
- Close and reopen the YouTube app or browser, then try the stream again.
- Restart the device playing the stream.
- Check for available YouTube app, browser, and device-system updates.
- If YouTube is buffering in its app on a supported mobile device, try clearing the app cache.
These are general steps in YouTube’s playback troubleshooting guidance; a menu path for clearing cache varies by device and operating system.
3. Lower playback quality
If playback is unstable, choose a lower quality in YouTube’s player and see whether the picture resumes reliably. YouTube lists these approximate sustained connection-speed recommendations: 20 Mbps for 4K, 5 Mbps for 1080p HD, 2.5 Mbps for 720p HD, 1.1 Mbps for 480p SD, and 0.7 Mbps for 360p SD. These are general recommendations from YouTube’s undated help page, accessed on October 3, 2026—not a diagnosis or a guarantee of uninterrupted live playback.

| Playback quality | Approximate recommended sustained speed |
|---|---|
| 4K | 20 Mbps |
| 1080p HD | 5 Mbps |
| 720p HD | 2.5 Mbps |
| 480p SD | 1.1 Mbps |
| 360p SD | 0.7 Mbps |
These figures come from YouTube’s video playback error guidance. A speed test showing a sufficient average rate does not rule out short disruptions or congestion.
Why a live stream can buffer even when audio still plays
Live-stream latency is the delay between capture and display to a viewer. YouTube explains that lower latency can support more immediate interaction, but leaves the player with less read-ahead buffer and can mean more playback buffering. As YouTube Help puts it: “With lower latency, your viewers may experience more playback buffering.” Network congestion and other factors can also delay or disrupt a live program even when the connection can sustain the stream’s average bitrate.

Latency is a possible contributor to buffering, not a confirmed explanation for a frozen picture with continuing audio. YouTube’s latency guidance and live-stream settings guidance describe the trade-off; the symptom needs to be isolated with the playback and connection checks above.
If you operate the 24/7 stream
If several viewers report the same frozen picture, check the stream at its source rather than relying only on viewer-side fixes. YouTube’s operator guidance points to the encoder output, Live Control Room dashboard errors, a local recording or archive, encoder CPU load, and the outbound internet connection.

- Open YouTube Live Control Room and review incoming stream health and any timestamped errors.
- Check the encoder’s output and its local archive, if available, to see whether the video itself is freezing before it reaches YouTube.
- Review encoder CPU load and the outbound internet connection for problems during the affected period.
- If you find a connection problem, YouTube advises contacting your ISP. If stream issues persist, report them to YouTube.
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting and live-stream error messages also cover ingestion problems such as incorrect format or audio settings. Those checks are for stream operators; viewers cannot correct an encoder or ingestion error from their player.
