For a DIY 24/7 YouTube stream on Google Cloud in India, start by evaluating an E2 Compute Engine VM, then size it from a sustained test of your actual video and encoder workload. E2 is Google’s cost-optimized general-purpose family, but shared-core E2 instances time-share CPU; no particular size is established as sufficient for every stream. Compare Mumbai and Delhi, budget compute, disk and network separately, and follow YouTube’s ingest settings. There is no reliable universal monthly price or uptime guarantee without your configuration and account details.
Which Google Cloud VM should you start with?
Use Compute Engine E2 as the first family to investigate for a lightweight playback-and-forwarding setup or a simple pre-encoded loop. Google describes E2 as cost-optimized general-purpose compute, and its shared-core options time-share CPU. That can make them candidates for modest workloads, but it does not establish that the smallest E2 instance will handle your stream.
If your workflow encodes, composites scenes, or transcodes video in real time, test at the resolution and frame rate you intend to broadcast. Choose a VM only after measuring CPU and memory headroom and checking for dropped frames over an extended run. No source establishes a universally adequate E2 size or benchmarks a particular encoder on it.
Compare Mumbai and Delhi
Google lists E2 availability in both Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2). Compare the intended configuration and billing account in Google Cloud’s pricing calculator, then test the actual ingest path and stream health from each region you are considering. Geographic proximity alone does not prove which region will provide lower latency or more stable streaming.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Estimate the bill before you deploy
Model the monthly cost as VM runtime plus boot and persistent disk, outbound network transfer, and any other services your setup uses. Rates vary with region, configuration, account eligibility and current terms, so a single rupee total would be misleading without those inputs. Use the Google Cloud pricing calculator to price your intended setup.
Do not count on the free tier to cover a 24/7 stream
Google Cloud’s current free-tier overview, accessed in 2026, describes an allowance equivalent to one e2-micro VM for the total hours in a month, up to 30 GB of standard persistent disk, and up to 1 GB of monthly outbound data transfer. These are limited allowances, not a guarantee that a 24/7 streaming setup will be free: the VM you need may not fit the allowance, and sustained video transfer can exceed 1 GB. Check current eligibility and rates in the calculator.

Account for E2 discount rules
Do not apply sustained-use discounts to an E2 estimate: Google states that E2 does not receive them. E2 can be eligible for commitment discount options, but compare those only after your workload and region are stable, and confirm current terms and account eligibility. Spot VMs may cost less but can be interrupted, so they are not the safe default for a stream intended to run continuously.
Configure YouTube ingest for the stream
In YouTube’s encoder guidance, the recommended settings include RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. For H.264, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps at 1080p30 and 6 Mbps at 720p30. These are ingest recommendations—not proof that a particular VM or network can sustain the feed. Allow dependable upload headroom above your chosen bitrate and test the real stream.

YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into formats for viewers, so you do not need to pre-create every playback rendition solely to serve different viewer formats. The encoder still needs to deliver your selected ingest feed reliably.
Set up and protect the stream key
YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a credential: do not expose it in public scripts, logs or screenshots, and rotate it if compromised. Add it to your encoder’s YouTube destination configuration, then test privately or with an appropriate test setup before making the broadcast public.

Before relying on a loop, test audio and representative motion, inspect YouTube’s stream health, and monitor the live stream. For a continuous channel, also review YouTube’s monetization policies: copyright compliance and eligibility are separate from keeping a stream technically online. A continuous broadcast does not itself establish monetization eligibility.

A single VM is a single point of failure. A 24/7 target therefore needs more than a working encoder process: plan for restarts, broken network connections, and VM or zone problems. Google Cloud and YouTube guidance do not establish an end-to-end uptime guarantee for this one-VM architecture, so do not promise an availability percentage.

- Use process supervision and configure restart behavior so an encoder process failure does not silently end the stream.
- Set alerts for the VM and stream, and check YouTube stream health rather than assuming a running process means a healthy broadcast.
- Test reconnect behavior after a network interruption and document how you will restore the stream if the VM or zone becomes unavailable.
- Consider a second encoder or failover design only if the cost and complexity are justified by the channel’s outage risk.
How to choose between candidate setups
Compare the actual E2 sizes and regions you are considering against the workload—not a generic “smallest VM” recommendation. Record the following during an extended test, then use your billing configuration in the calculator:
- CPU and memory headroom while encoding or forwarding at the target resolution and frame rate.
- Dropped frames and stream health during representative video and audio.
- Reconnect behavior after a deliberate network interruption.
- Region-specific ingest stability and calculator price for Mumbai versus Delhi.
- VM runtime, disk and outbound transfer as separate cost lines.
This comparison is a measurement task: available evidence does not establish a universal cheapest or fastest E2 size, a better-performing Indian region, or a fixed monthly bill for an unspecified workload.
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining a VM, encoder process, reconnect strategy and billing model is more work than you want, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live continuously. Upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It does not broadcast a camera feed.
Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price regardless of quality. It includes 10 GB of storage per slot (pooled across active slots), 24/7 looping and playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Plans differ by duration, not features; cancel any time. UPI and cards are available in India, and card checkout is available worldwide.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
