For one showroom video repeating continuously, use OBS Media Source and enable Loop. For a list of videos, use VLC Video Source, add the files as a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. Choose shuffle if you want the playlist order randomized. These are playback choices inside OBS; you still need to check the composed scene and the outgoing YouTube stream.
Which OBS source fits your showroom loop?

OBS documents these settings, but does not compare the sources’ long-session reliability, CPU or GPU use, or failure rates. If those factors matter for your display, test the intended setup on the actual computer rather than assuming one source performs better. OBS Media Sources documentation.
How the two sources differ
Media Source: one file at a time
Media Source adds audio or video media files to an OBS scene. OBS lists formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, WebM, MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. For a single showroom video, turn on Loop so playback restarts when the file ends.
Other available controls include restarting playback when the source becomes active, hardware decoding when available, hiding the source after playback ends, closing the file when the source is inactive, playback speed, and YUV color range. These controls can matter if the video is activated or hidden as scenes change; set them according to how your scene is meant to behave.

VLC Video Source: a playlist through VLC
VLC Video Source uses VLC libraries and can play a playlist of media files. Add the showroom clips to the source, then enable Loop Playlist to restart the sequence after the final item. Enable Shuffle Playlist if the order should be randomized.
This source requires VLC to be installed. Match its architecture to OBS: if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. VLC Video Source also has a Visibility Behaviour setting to determine whether playback continues, pauses, or stops while the source is not visible. OBS documents network caching and audio and subtitle track settings as well.

Set up and check the OBS scene
- Choose the source by the number of files. Add a Media Source for one repeating file, or a VLC Video Source for a playlist.
- Configure playback. Turn on Loop for a single Media Source. For a VLC playlist, add the files in the desired sequence and turn on Loop Playlist; add Shuffle Playlist only if randomized playback is wanted.
- Check visibility behavior. Confirm the VLC source’s visibility setting, or Media Source’s restart and close-when-inactive controls, suit how your scenes show or hide the video.
- Check the scene composition. OBS scenes and source ordering determine the stream layout and which elements appear above others. Confirm the showroom video is visible and that any other scene elements are layered as intended. See the OBS Studio overview.
- Start the YouTube encoder stream and inspect the preview. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview before going live and monitoring audio and video quality during the event. A file looping correctly in OBS does not by itself prove that the outgoing stream looks or sounds right. See YouTube’s encoder streaming setup guidance and live streaming tips.
Check YouTube eligibility, rights, and archiving
Channel eligibility
YouTube’s encoder-stream setup guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check your channel’s current status and Live Control Room before scheduling the showroom stream.
Rights for every video and audio track
Use only showroom video and audio that you have the rights to broadcast. YouTube’s live terms require compliance with its Community Guidelines, and the provider represents that it has the necessary rights to the live content, including applicable music licensing rights. A clip being available online or playing successfully in OBS does not establish permission to rebroadcast it. Read YouTube’s Terms of Service and confirm rights for every asset in the loop.

Plan for recordings separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local archive backup, and warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a showroom loop intended to run longer, do not treat YouTube’s archive as your only copy. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

Troubleshooting a showroom loop
- VLC Video Source is missing in OBS: Install VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC, then check the source list again.
- A single video stops at the end: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop.
- A playlist stops after its last item: Enable Loop Playlist in VLC Video Source.
- The playlist repeats but in an unexpected order: Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled; turn it off for a fixed sequence.
- Playback changes when the source is hidden: Check VLC’s Visibility Behaviour or Media Source’s restart and close-when-inactive settings, depending on which source you use.
- The local loop works but the YouTube stream is wrong: Inspect the Live Control Room preview and monitor audio and video during the broadcast; the local source alone does not verify the encoded output.
- The archive is missing or incomplete after a long stream: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording plan for long broadcasts.
