How to Display Changing Product Prices in a YouTube Live Catalog Stream

Keep YouTube Shopping prices accurate before and during a live stream: sync the retailer page and product feed, and announce midstream changes clearly.

Use YouTube Shopping’s tagged products for the clickable catalog, but keep the retailer’s product page and connected product feed synchronized: a price edit made during a live stream may not update the catalog for viewers already watching. YouTube recommends tagging products at least 30 minutes before going live. If a price changes midstream, update the store and feed, then state the new price clearly on screen or aloud rather than promising an instant catalog refresh.

How viewers see product prices in a YouTube Live stream

Viewers can open the Shopping control to browse products tagged in the live content; eligible streams may also display product shelves. A product listing can show information and a price, and selecting it may open a preview or redirect the viewer to the retailer’s store. The retailer controls the store page, purchase terms and current product information, which can change. YouTube’s help documentation puts it plainly: “Product information is determined by the retailer and may change.” YouTube Help: Tag products in your content

Product visibility is not universal: tags appear only where YouTube Shopping is supported and where the product can be shipped to the viewer. A price shown in a YouTube listing should therefore be treated as product information, not a substitute for checking the retailer’s current checkout details.

Set up the catalog before going live

  1. Check eligibility and products. Confirm that your channel and tagged products are eligible for YouTube Shopping in the relevant region, and that the products can be shipped to your intended viewers.
  2. Update the retailer’s store first. Set the price and purchase conditions on the product landing page before changing the connected product data.
  3. Synchronize the product feed. Use the connected commerce platform’s sync, scheduled upload or Merchant API workflow, as applicable, so the submitted product data agrees with the current store offer.
  4. Check price and currency consistency. Confirm that the product page and its structured data show the same price and currency as the submitted product data. Google Merchant Center may disapprove an item when submitted price data does not match the landing page.
  5. Tag and arrange products in YouTube Studio. Add the items to the live content and order them so the most relevant products are easy to find. YouTube recommends completing tagging at least 30 minutes before the stream. YouTube Help: Tag products in your content
  6. Verify the viewer-facing listing. Check the product catalog before the broadcast so you can catch stale information before viewers arrive.

Change a product price while the stream is live

A creator can manage tagged products during a broadcast, but a midstream catalog change may not reach viewers who are already watching. Treat the retailer’s product page as the source for the offer, and do not describe a catalog edit as an instant update unless you have confirmed the result for your specific store integration and viewer experience.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Change the price and any relevant conditions on the retailer’s product page.
  2. Send the matching update to Merchant Center through the connected platform’s sync, a scheduled upload or the Merchant API, depending on your setup.
  3. Check that the landing page, structured data and submitted product data agree on price and currency.
  4. Clearly announce the new price on screen or aloud, including material conditions that affect the offer. Keep the announcement aligned with the retailer’s page.
  5. Allow for catalog propagation and, where practical, confirm the viewer-facing listing after the update. Do not assume that everyone already watching has received the refreshed catalog.

Google recommends scheduled product uploads or Merchant API updates for frequently changing prices. Automatic item updates can correct some mismatches, but Google says they may not work for products whose prices change more than once per day; an item can also be disapproved if a mismatch is detected. Automatic correction is not a replacement for maintaining a dependable update path. Google Merchant Center Help: Price

Ways to call attention to a price change

Use the tagged catalog for product discovery

YouTube Shopping tags give viewers a clickable way to find the products featured in a live stream. You can order tagged items and feature a selected product by pinning it. The documented Android live flow describes pinning one item; computer help describes pinning items, so the controls and capability should be understood in their platform context rather than assumed identical across devices. Use a clear on-screen or spoken callout

If the offer changes during the broadcast, a creator-controlled announcement can tell viewers what changed while YouTube’s catalog catches up. This is a communication measure, not a YouTube feature that synchronizes merchant data. State the current offer and material conditions accurately, and direct viewers to the retailer’s page for purchase details.

Use supported deal displays when eligible

YouTube documents merchant promotions, a sales-price annotation and a price-drop badge. Promotions and annotations rely on supported Shopify or Google Merchant Center workflows, depending on the deal type. A price-drop badge compares the current price with the lowest listed price in the preceding 30 days; updating the store price can trigger the badge. These deal displays depend on retailer eligibility, region and viewer device, and the cited YouTube guidance describes them for mobile viewers in supported regions. Check current eligibility and setup in the connected merchant tools before relying on a badge or annotation. YouTube Help: Promote products with deals

Why the catalog may show an old price

  • The live catalog has not refreshed for existing viewers. YouTube warns that some edits made during a live broadcast may not be visible to people already watching. Make the offer clear in the stream and allow time for propagation.
  • The merchant feed and store page disagree. Merchant Center compares submitted price data with the landing page and structured data. Align all three and check the product’s status in Merchant Center. Google Merchant Center Help: Price
  • The feed update has not been sent or processed. Check the commerce platform’s sync status and use its scheduled upload or Merchant API path when prices change frequently.
  • You are relying on automatic item updates for frequent changes. Google says automatic updates may not work when a product price changes more than once per day. Use a regular update process instead of treating automatic correction as the feed pipeline.
  • A viewer cannot see the product tag. Shopping support, product eligibility, shipping availability and viewer location affect whether tags appear. Verify the product and target audience’s availability before the stream.
  • A deal badge or annotation is missing. These displays require supported workflows and depend on eligibility, region and device. A price change alone does not establish that a particular viewer will see a deal treatment.

Understand commissions before quoting earnings

Eligible creators in YouTube’s Shopping affiliate program may earn commissions on purchases of tagged products. The rate shown in Studio is an estimate; the commission payout reflects the rate on the purchase date, and a merchant may change its rate between tagging and purchase. Check the current product and account details before describing a commission, and do not promise a fixed rate. YouTube Help: YouTube Shopping affiliate program
