How to Prepare Telugu and Tamil Video Files for One Continuous YouTube Stream

A practical guide to ordering Telugu and Tamil video files for YouTube Live, checking tracks, configuring OBS, and validating playback before going live.

To play Telugu and Tamil videos continuously on YouTube Live, arrange the files in order in an OBS VLC Video source, verify the correct audio and subtitle tracks for each file, connect OBS to YouTube with a private stream key, and test the entire sequence before going live. The languages do not require special encoder settings; the key is checking what each file contains and configuring the live feed for YouTube’s ingest requirements.

Choose a playback method

For a sequence of local files, an OBS VLC Video source is the most direct way to play them in order without first joining them into one output file. VLC must be installed for the source to be available. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer is an alternative when the input files have compatible streams and timing.

Method Setup Input requirements Transition check
OBS VLC Video source Add the files to a playlist in the intended order; no combined media file is needed. OBS VLC Video Source VLC-backed playback supports a range of media types. Choose audio and subtitle tracks for each file. Test the actual file handoffs; playlist looping does not guarantee gap-free transitions.
FFmpeg concat demuxer Create a text file listing the inputs and use FFmpeg to read them in sequence. FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation Files need the same streams, codecs, and time base. Inaccurate duration information can cause artifacts or gaps. Inspect the joined output for timing problems before streaming.

Prepare and verify the video files

Make a clear run order

Before configuring OBS, arrange the files in the order you want viewers to see them. Give each a clear filename or make a separate run order identifying its language, title, and intended audio and subtitle tracks. Do not assume that track 1 is Telugu or Tamil, or that the same track number means the same thing across different files.

Check audio and subtitles file by file

Play a representative portion of every video and confirm that the intended Telugu or Tamil audio is audible. Where subtitles are part of the program, check that the correct subtitles are legible and synchronized. OBS’s VLC source has audio-track selection and subtitle controls, but the source documentation does not establish a Telugu- or Tamil-specific track convention.

YouTube’s upload recommendations describe MP4, H.264, progressive scan, and AAC-LC, Opus, or Eclipsa Audio. These are upload recommendations, not a requirement to re-encode every existing file before using it as an OBS playlist source. Keep file preparation separate from the live encoder configuration.

Set up an ordered OBS playlist

  1. Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS documents the VLC Video source as available when VLC is installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. See the OBS VLC Video Source documentation.
  2. Add the source to your streaming scene. In OBS, choose the scene you will use and add a VLC Video source. Add the media files in the intended playback order.
  3. Set playlist behavior. Keep shuffle off when the program needs a fixed order. Choose whether to enable Loop Playlist: when enabled, the sequence restarts after its final file.
  4. Set and verify tracks. Use the source’s audio-track and subtitle controls as needed. Check each file rather than relying on a shared track number.
  5. Connect to YouTube Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream, then copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube describes the stream key as the credential that lets the encoder send the feed; keep it private. See YouTube’s live encoder guidance.
  6. Test the whole sequence. Preview representative content from every file, including the end of one video and the start of the next. Check audio, subtitles, picture, and stream health before relying on the playlist for a live broadcast.

Playlist looping restarts the sequence; it is not a guarantee of a mathematically gap-free audiovisual handoff. Confirm the transitions using the actual files and output.

Use FFmpeg when the files are compatible

The concat demuxer reads a text list and presents packets one after another as though the files had been muxed together. It is suitable only when the inputs meet its compatibility requirements: the same streams, codecs, and time base. FFmpeg adjusts timestamps using each file’s duration, so inaccurate duration information can produce artifacts or gaps. Consult the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation, and inspect the result before using it for a live program.

Choose this route when you want a combined sequential output and have checked the inputs. If the files differ in stream layout or timing characteristics, an OBS playlist avoids the concat demuxer’s matching-stream requirement, though its handoffs still need testing.

Configure OBS for YouTube live ingest

Match codec, bitrate, and frame rate to the program and connection

YouTube’s current live encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest, frame rates up to 60 fps, and constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. Its recommended keyframe interval is 2 seconds and should not exceed 4 seconds. Set a bitrate appropriate to the resolution, frame rate, and codec, and make sure your upload connection can sustain it; run a speed test rather than assuming your advertised connection rate is available for the stream.

As reference points, YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations are 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps; the corresponding minimums are 4 Mbps and 6 Mbps. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees of a stable connection. Check the current table and settings in YouTube’s live encoder guidance.

Use the live-ingest guidance, not upload settings

YouTube recommends RTMPS for live ingestion. For ordinary SDR, its advanced guidance includes Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth. The separate upload recommendations do not replace these live-ingest settings. Configure OBS for the stream you are sending, and test the resulting feed in Live Control Room.

Run a full preflight and monitor the stream

Before going live

  • Confirm every file is present and the run order is correct.
  • Check a representative portion of each video for the intended language track and, where applicable, readable, synchronized subtitles.
  • Watch and listen to the transitions between files; a playlist setting alone does not establish uninterrupted playback.
  • Test with representative motion and audio, and confirm the preview looks and sounds right.
  • Confirm that the intended stream key and stream URL are configured, and keep the key private.

YouTube recommends testing before the event with representative audio and motion. Its live streaming tips also recommend checking the Live Control Room preview, confirming that the event is accessible on channel and watch pages and on mobile devices, and monitoring quality and stream-health messages during the event.

Rights and audience readiness

Confirm that you have the rights to use every video, soundtrack, and subtitle file, and follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. YouTube’s live streaming tips remind creators to consider both. The status of rights for your particular files depends on your permissions and licenses; a language track or subtitle file does not itself establish permission to broadcast the material.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
VLC Video source is unavailable VLC is not installed or its architecture does not match OBS. Install VLC; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC, then check the source list again. OBS documentation
The wrong language is audible, or there is no expected audio The selected audio track differs between files, or the wrong track was selected. Use the source’s track controls and verify each file individually; do not assume track 1 is the intended language.
Subtitles are missing, unreadable, or out of sync The selected subtitle track may be wrong, or the file’s subtitle timing or legibility may need attention. Check the source’s subtitle controls and inspect the video before streaming.
There is a pause, artifact, or other problem between files The playlist handoff may not be seamless, or concat inputs may have mismatched streams or inaccurate duration information. Test the actual transition. For FFmpeg concat, verify stream compatibility and durations; for OBS, review the playlist output.
YouTube reports stream-health or quality problems The live feed may not match ingest settings, or the upload connection may not sustain the selected bitrate. Check codec, CBR, keyframe interval, resolution, frame rate, and connection capacity against YouTube’s current encoder guidance; monitor Live Control Room messages.
The stream does not appear to viewers where expected The event may not be accessible or visible on the relevant YouTube surfaces. Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm access from the channel or watch page and a mobile device.
