To schedule many events from a CSV, use the file as input to a script that creates YouTube Live broadcasts through the YouTube Live Streaming API. A broadcast is the scheduled event; a separate live stream resource supplies the feed, and the API workflow binds them together.
“Live playlists” can also mean one live program that plays a sequence of prerecorded videos. The documented workflow here schedules separate live events; it does not establish a CSV method for making YouTube play playlist videos as a live broadcast.
Choose the right workflow for what you mean by a playlist
- A series of live events: Schedule each broadcast in Studio for a small number of events, or automate event creation from CSV rows through the API. After each event, you can organize its archive or highlights into a YouTube playlist.
- One live program made from videos: The official documentation reviewed does not establish a CSV-based scheduler that plays a YouTube playlist as a continuous live program. A list of event rows and a playlist of videos are different things.
YouTube’s playlist guidance discusses organizing archives and highlight clips after an event, not using a playlist as a container for scheduling future broadcasts. See YouTube’s playlist guidance.
Schedule a single event in YouTube Studio
For occasional broadcasts, Studio is the simpler option: no code or API credentials are needed. YouTube’s documented path is Create > Go Live, then Manage > Schedule Stream.

Schedule multiple events from CSV with the YouTube Live Streaming API
YouTube’s API documentation describes requests for creating broadcasts and streams, but not a Studio CSV-import feature or an official CSV template. A CSV-driven workflow therefore means writing or commissioning a script that reads rows and makes authorized API requests. Field names, parsing, timezone rules, retries, and error reporting are decisions for that script.
1. Define a clear CSV schema
For example, use columns named title, description, scheduled_start_time, and privacy_status. These are example script column names, not a YouTube-prescribed format. Keep the input format consistent and document how timestamps are interpreted, including their time zone.

2. Validate every row before making API changes
Check that each row has a title, a valid future start time, and a supported privacy setting. Also catch malformed timestamps, missing time zones, duplicate rows, and rows whose start time has already passed. Validating the whole file first can prevent avoidable partial schedules.

The liveBroadcasts.insert reference identifies the required broadcast details, including title, scheduled start time, and privacy status. Do not assume that a syntactically valid CSV row guarantees an accepted API request; authorization and request validation can still fail.
3. Authenticate as an authorized channel user
Use OAuth authorization for the channel owner or an authorized manager, with the documented API scope. Do not place OAuth credentials or stream keys in a shared CSV, source repository, or publicly accessible file. YouTube describes the stream key as the credential an encoder uses to send its feed, so treat it as secret.

4. Create the broadcast, create or select a stream, then bind them
The broadcast is the scheduled event; a liveStream resource represents the feed that will be sent to YouTube. The documented API workflow creates the broadcast, creates or selects a compatible stream, and binds the two. Follow the YouTube Live Streaming API getting-started guide for the resource sequence and request details.
5. Record results and verify the schedule
For each successful request, save the returned broadcast ID and watch-page link to an output file associated with the source row. Log row-level errors so you can correct and retry failed items without blindly recreating successful broadcasts. Before sharing the schedule, inspect the events in Live Control Room and confirm their titles, start times, and privacy settings.
Keep the schedule creation separate from transmitting the program. An encoder sends the live feed using the stream URL and stream key; it is not what imports or parses the CSV. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder in advance and checking the preview in Live Control Room before going live. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

CSV script or Studio: which should you use?
| Consideration | YouTube Studio | CSV-driven API script |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | A handful of events | Repeated schedules or many rows |
| Setup | No code; enter and review each event | Requires OAuth, API requests, validation, and error handling |
| Tracking | Relies on careful manual entry and review | Can record row-to-broadcast IDs and report errors |
| Playlist handling | Schedule events; organize archives or highlights into playlists afterward | Same distinction: the API workflow schedules broadcasts, not a documented playlist of future events |
The scale and tracking differences are practical consequences of the two workflows, not a YouTube-published performance guarantee. The official API material reviewed does not state a CSV row limit or scheduling success rate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check channel readiness and live-program requirements
Scheduling an event and being ready to transmit are separate concerns. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days to stream. First-time live streaming activation may take up to 24 hours, so allow for that before an event. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Confirm the authorized account can manage the channel and make the API requests.
- Allow time for first-time live streaming activation, if applicable.
- Configure the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview before the scheduled start.
- Use content you have rights to stream. A scheduled event or an API-created broadcast does not grant permission to use copyrighted material.
Troubleshoot common CSV scheduling problems
A date is scheduled for the wrong time
Check whether the timestamp includes an explicit time zone and whether the script converts it consistently. Validate and display the interpreted start time before making requests; an unqualified local time can be ambiguous when the script runs in a different time zone.

The API rejects a row
Check the required title, future scheduled start time, privacy status, request fields, and OAuth authorization. Log the response against the original CSV row, correct the input or permissions, then retry only the failed operation where safe.
The event exists, but it does not appear to have a feed
A broadcast and a live stream are separate resources. Confirm that the script created or selected a compatible liveStream resource and successfully bound it to the broadcast; creating the event alone does not transmit video.
The event is scheduled, but the channel cannot go live
Check verification, live-stream restrictions, and whether first-time activation has completed. These are channel readiness issues, distinct from whether a broadcast could be prepared.
The script creates duplicate events after a retry
Preserve successful broadcast IDs and row status in an output file or database. On a rerun, distinguish completed rows from failed or unattempted ones instead of resubmitting the entire CSV without checking results.
