Does a YouTube Copyright Strike From a 24/7 Stream Affect an Indian Channel’s YPP Status?

A copyright strike can affect monetization and live-stream access, but YouTube does not say one strike automatically removes an Indian channel from YPP. Here is how to check your status and respond.

One copyright strike can affect monetization, but YouTube’s public rules do not say that a single copyright strike automatically removes an Indian channel from the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). A strike can restrict live streaming and may affect a channel’s ability to monetize; the exact result depends on the enforcement notice and the channel’s status in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s published guidance does not set out a separate India-specific strike-to-YPP rule.

First, identify what YouTube action you received

A copyright strike, a Content ID claim, a live-stream restriction, and a YPP suspension are different actions. They can have different consequences, so read the notice rather than inferring a YPP decision from a stream stopping.

Notice or status What it means What to check
Content ID claim A copyright-management claim; it is distinct from a copyright strike and typically does not itself become a strike. Review the claim details and the affected video or stream in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s copyright strike guidance and copyright claim guidance explain the distinction.
Copyright strike YouTube issues a strike when it removes content after accepting a valid copyright removal request. Open the copyright notice and confirm the removed content, claimant, and available resolution options. YouTube’s strike guidance explains the process.
Live-stream access restriction A live stream removed for copyright can result in a strike and a restriction on live streaming. Check the notice for the restriction and its duration; see the timing below.
YPP suspension or monetization change This is an account’s monetization status, not simply the fact that a stream ended or received a claim. Check the channel’s Earn page and the specific Studio notice for the decision and any appeal or reapplication instructions. YouTube’s YPP overview describes channel monetization requirements.

What a copyright strike can mean for YPP

YouTube says account strikes may affect a channel’s ability to monetize. Its YPP overview separately lists compliance with channel monetization policies and having no active Community Guidelines strikes among eligibility conditions; it does not list a standalone requirement of having no copyright strikes. Read together, these public rules do not establish that one copyright strike automatically removes a channel from YPP, but they also do not guarantee that monetization will remain unaffected. Copyright issues can contribute to channel-wide monetization suspension, including across related accounts. YouTube’s account-standing guidance and its YPP overview describe these policies.

For an Indian channel, the reviewed YouTube guidance does not state a different strike-to-YPP rule. The account-specific answer is the current status shown in YouTube Studio, especially the Earn page and the enforcement notice. YouTube also provides India-facing enforcement guidance, but it does not establish a separate YPP outcome for a single copyright strike.

Live-stream restrictions and the three-strike threshold

  • If YouTube removes an active live stream for copyright, its guidance says the channel receives a copyright strike and live-streaming access is restricted for seven days.
  • A subsequent copyright strike can extend the live-streaming restriction to 14 days.
  • Three active copyright strikes within 90 days make a channel subject to termination. If YouTube terminates the channel, it says YPP participants are no longer entitled to earn revenue.

YouTube’s cited guidance does not describe a special exception for 24/7 streams. These are separate outcomes: a live-stream restriction does not by itself prove that YPP has been suspended, while a channel termination ends the ability to earn YPP revenue. Check the actual notice for what applies to your account. YouTube’s copyright strike guidance covers live-stream restrictions and strikes.

What to do after a strike or monetization change

  1. Open YouTube Studio and read the exact notice. Confirm whether it describes a Content ID claim, copyright strike, live-stream access restriction, or YPP suspension. Then check the channel’s Earn page for its current monetization status.
  2. If it is a strike, review the resolution options. YouTube says eligible creators can complete Copyright School and wait 90 days for a strike to expire. Other options may include asking the claimant to retract the request or submitting a counter notification if the removal was mistaken or the use qualifies for an applicable copyright exception. YouTube’s strike-resolution guidance explains the options.
  3. Use a counter notification only when you have a sound basis. It is a legal process, not a routine appeal. Do not submit one unless the facts and legal grounds support it; an applicable exception depends on the specific use and circumstances.
  4. If monetization is disabled, follow the Studio instructions for that decision. YouTube says a channel may appeal a YPP suspension or reapply after the waiting period shown to it. Use the process and timing given in the account notice. YouTube’s monetization guidance explains suspension and appeal pathways.
  5. Do not rely on deleting the stream to clear the strike. YouTube says deleting content does not clear an existing copyright strike. See YouTube’s strike guidance.

Prevent repeat problems on a 24/7 stream

Before looping a recording, verify that you have rights to the video, music, and other material included in it, and that your intended use is permitted. A live format or continuous loop does not itself establish permission. This article cannot determine whether a particular stream infringed copyright or whether a specific use qualifies for an exception under Indian law. If you receive a notice, use its details and YouTube’s stated resolution process rather than assuming that a claim, strike, or monetization action is interchangeable.
