YouTube’s rules distinguish between a general first-strike restriction and a strike tied to a restricted live stream, so check the notice and your YouTube Studio status for the rule that applies to your channel.
What deleting the video does—and does not do
YouTube Help says, “Deleting your content doesn’t remove a strike.” Deletion is not a way to clear the strike or regain live access. YouTube also says deleting the video removes your opportunity to appeal that video or strike, so do not delete it as a strike-removal tactic. YouTube Help: Community Guidelines strike basics
Which restriction period applies?
YouTube describes different timelines for different enforcement contexts. They are not interchangeable: the general first-strike penalty, a restriction following a live-stream strike, and the 90-day eligibility condition describe separate things.

Because the applicable clock depends on what enforcement occurred—and a channel may have other restrictions—use the restriction notice and your signed-in Studio status to determine whether live streaming is available. Public guidance cannot establish the current state of an individual account.

How to check your channel and appeal a mistaken strike
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and review the enforcement notification and channel status. Confirm whether the notice concerns a general Community Guidelines strike, a restricted live stream, or another live-stream restriction.
- If you believe the Community Guidelines decision was wrong, open Dashboard > Channel violations and select Appeal. YouTube allows an appeal within six months of issuance; each strike may be appealed once. YouTube Help: Appeal a Community Guidelines strike or video removal
- Keep the video available while pursuing an appeal. If YouTube grants the appeal, it says it will reinstate compliant content and remove the strike. If it does not, the strike remains.
- After the applicable restriction ends—or after a successful appeal—check Studio again rather than assuming that deletion or the passage of a particular number of days has restored eligibility.
If live streaming is still unavailable
A Community Guidelines strike is not the only possible cause. YouTube lists stream removals and other policy issues among possible restriction triggers. Its examples include matching another copyrighted live broadcast, certain minor-safety situations, and streams featuring someone holding, handling, or transporting a firearm. Restrictions can also be applied at YouTube’s discretion. These cases do not all share the same duration, so follow the specific notice and account status. - Check for a separate notice: A live-stream restriction may have a different basis or end date than the Community Guidelines strike you deleted the video for.
- Do not use another channel to get around an active restriction: YouTube prohibits evading a live-stream restriction this way.
- Verify the baseline requirements: Live streaming requires a verified channel and no live-stream restrictions during the preceding 90 days.
