For bhajan videos you upload to YouTube, use an MP4 file with H.264 video and AAC-LC audio. Keep the source frame rate, export progressive video, and enable Fast Start so the MP4’s metadata is at the front. If by “24/7 playlist” you mean a continuous live event rather than uploaded videos viewers play from a playlist, use YouTube’s separate live-encoder settings instead.
First decide: uploaded playlist or continuous livestream?
These are different workflows, with different encoding requirements:
- Uploaded playlist: Upload one or more prerecorded bhajan videos and arrange them in a YouTube playlist. Use YouTube’s recommended upload settings below.
- Continuous livestream: Send a continuing feed from an encoder to a YouTube live event. Use YouTube’s live ingestion settings; an uploaded MP4 is not itself a live-stream protocol.
A playlist of uploads and a live event also give viewers different experiences. Choose uploads if viewers should play prepared videos on demand; choose a live event if the channel needs to present a continuous stream. For a live setup, check how the chosen encoder handles looping and recovery, and test it before relying on it around the clock.
Recommended format and settings for uploaded bhajan videos
YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings specify MP4 with H.264 video. For a standard stereo music video, AAC-LC is a conventional supported audio choice. YouTube also lists Opus and Eclipsa Audio as supported audio options. The recommendations below are from YouTube’s current upload guidance, accessed in 2026.

Export checklist
- Container: MP4.
- Video codec: H.264, High Profile.
- Scan and color: Progressive scan; BT.709 for SDR.
- Compression structure: Closed GOP, CABAC, and two consecutive B frames.
- Frame rate: Keep the rate at which the material was recorded. YouTube lists common rates including 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, and 60 fps.
- Audio: AAC-LC at a 48 kHz sample rate is a suitable conventional choice for stereo bhajans.
- MP4 layout: Use no edit lists and put the
moovatom at the front of the file, commonly called Fast Start.
Upload bitrate examples
These are YouTube recommendations for SDR uploads, not livestream bitrates. Match both the resolution and frame-rate class to your export:

For audio, YouTube’s upload guidance recommends 384 kbps for stereo, 128 kbps for mono, and 512 kbps for 5.1. For an ordinary stereo bhajan video, use the stereo recommendation; the video bitrate figures above are not audio settings.

Settings for a 24/7 YouTube live stream
If the channel needs a live event rather than a playlist of uploads, configure the encoder for YouTube’s live ingestion requirements. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS as an encoder protocol option and recommends RTMPS, the secure extension.
Encoder settings to check
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 for the described encoder workflow.
- Audio codec: AAC or MP3.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframes: A two-second interval is recommended; do not exceed four seconds.
- Bitrate: Choose the live-table row that matches the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, YouTube’s current live guidance accessed in 2026 recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 3 Mbps for 720p30.
Do not copy an upload bitrate into the encoder just because the resolution looks the same: YouTube publishes separate upload and live bitrate guidance. YouTube transcodes a live stream into output formats for viewers, but that does not guarantee a particular encoder or looping setup will stay connected continuously.

Reliability checks before leaving a stream running
- Test the full setup before making it the channel’s continuous feed.
- Leave upload-bandwidth headroom: YouTube recommends allowing 20% beyond the total stream bitrate.
- If the encoder records a local archive, confirm that the file continues to grow as expected.
- Monitor audio and video quality, and verify what the encoder does if its connection drops or the stream needs to restart.
