Schedule shorter sessions, keep a separate recording, monitor the feed, and clear rebroadcast rights for every episode and embedded element.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also states that streamers must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- An encoder and a playback source that can play the episode or playlist and recover if playback or the encoder is interrupted. YouTube documents the connection workflow, but does not prescribe a specific playlist automation tool, computer, operating system, or 24/7 loop design.
- A reliable upload connection and power at the streaming location, plus a separate local recording or retained copy of the source episodes.
- Rights to stream and archive each episode and its components, including music, clips, sound effects, artwork, and guest contributions where applicable.
Set up the stream in YouTube Live Control Room
- Check channel eligibility. In YouTube Studio, confirm that live streaming is available and that no restriction from the preceding 90 days prevents you from going live. Resolve any restriction before scheduling. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance gives the minimum age as 16.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. In Live Control Room, use the Stream workflow to create a stream, or the Manage workflow to schedule one. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Copy the connection details into your encoder. Take the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room and enter them in the encoder. Treat the key as a password: do not show it in screenshots, on-screen content, or public chat. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube before the next broadcast.
- Load and test the episode source. Connect your episode or playlist playback source to the encoder. Test the loop and interruption-recovery process before public use; the exact automation method depends on the playback setup you choose.
- Check the preview before starting. Start the encoder, wait for its feed to appear in Live Control Room, then check picture and audio. Start the broadcast in YouTube only after the preview is correct. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring the stream continuously; see its live-streaming tips.
- Record a separate copy. Keep a local recording or preserve the original episode files, and check that the recording file is still growing during the session. YouTube recommends a local archive as backup, and the recording protects against a missing or incomplete replay.
- End sessions below the archive limit and verify replays. Plan session boundaries comfortably below 12 hours. After each session, check the replay in YouTube Studio’s Live tab rather than assuming it was saved. Arrange completed episodes and highlight clips into playlists so listeners can find them later.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The wording is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will archive successfully. A single broadcast running around the clock is therefore not a safe archive plan. See YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams.
For continuous availability, divide the schedule into shorter broadcasts and assign someone or a recovery process to check each restart. Keep the original episodes or a separate recording, then verify each replay after the broadcast. YouTube does not establish a platform guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 uptime or prescribe a specific restart interval.
Clear rights before rebroadcasting episodes
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including other broadcasts. If it detects a match, a placeholder may replace the live feed; an unresolved match can interrupt or terminate the stream. A Content ID claim may also be made on an archived live stream after it ends. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

If you have a licence for material that triggers a match, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A licence alone may not prevent interruption where the channel needs to be allowlisted or territorial restrictions apply.
YouTube’s Live Stream Terms require the provider to have the rights needed to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including relevant music rights, and to comply with applicable laws and territory requirements. Before rebroadcasting an old episode, check rights for the recording, guest and contributor releases as applicable, intro and outro music, embedded clips, sound effects, artwork, and any video. An episode’s presence in an existing archive does not by itself establish permission for a new live or archived rebroadcast.

Monitor the stream and preserve your archive
- Check the Live Control Room preview before going live and monitor audio and video during the broadcast.
- Confirm that the channel page, watch page, and mobile playback show the stream as expected.
- Check the local recording’s integrity and make sure its file size continues to increase.
- Test the actual upload connection, power continuity, and recovery procedure at the place and time the stream will run. YouTube’s cited guidance does not give a universal India-specific upload-speed threshold, UPS size, or hardware specification.
- Choose local recording storage based on bitrate, format, recording duration, and how long you need to retain files; no single drive capacity fits every setup. An external SSD can be one option for keeping a local copy.
What the archived stream means for watch hours
In a YouTube Official Blog post dated August 12, 2026, YouTube Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie said that qualified YPP watch hours can come from public long-form videos, including podcasts, and archived livestreams; live-stream hours from broadcasts that are not archived do not qualify. This explains one eligibility rule, not a promise of monetization or earnings. Archive status, privacy, channel eligibility, viewer behavior, claims, and current program rules still matter. See the YouTube Official Blog.
