You can run prerecorded videos as a YouTube Live stream in India using an encoder—but treat “24/7” as a schedule to maintain, not a promise that one broadcast will stay online indefinitely. Start with an eligible channel, connect an encoder using YouTube’s stream URL and key, test the feed, and plan for monitoring, recovery, rights checks, and replay limits.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meets YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16 for streamers. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements before scheduling a launch.
- Prerecorded video that you have the rights to use on YouTube, including any music, footage, artwork, and other third-party material.
- An encoder: software on a computer, a standalone hardware encoder, or a cloud service that can play uploaded videos continuously.
- A reliable upload connection with bandwidth above the bitrate you select, plus a plan for checking the stream and restoring it if the feed stops.
Choose how the stream will run
Software encoder on a computer
This is a practical starting point if you already have a suitable computer and want to control the playlist and encoding locally. The computer, encoder software, power, and internet connection must remain available while it is operating. YouTube supports software encoders and provides encoder setup guidance in its Live Control Room instructions.
Standalone hardware encoder
A hardware encoder can be useful for a dedicated or more advanced production setup. It is optional: YouTube supports software as well, so buying a physical encoder is not a prerequisite for trying a prerecorded live stream.
Cloud streaming service
A cloud service can play uploaded videos without requiring your home computer to encode the feed continuously. YouTube’s encoder documentation lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; that listing does not establish a provider’s availability in India or its terms. StreamNeo is another cloud option for YouTube: it keeps a channel live from uploaded videos, with no computer or home connection required to stay on. See StreamNeo for its current service details.

Set up the YouTube stream
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming flow and complete any verification or enablement steps. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
- Create or schedule a stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one for later. Choose the visibility and stream details you intend to use; check them before you go live.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or share it in a screenshot.
- Build the prerecorded playlist. Add the videos in the intended order and decide whether and how they repeat. Confirm that the encoder or service can handle the playlist behavior you need, including what happens at the end of a file or list.
- Start the encoder and inspect the incoming preview. Before taking the stream live, confirm that YouTube receives the picture and sound you expect. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health; see its live-streaming tips.
- Go live and verify playback. Check the viewer-facing stream, not only the encoder’s status. Confirm that the video is visible, audio is audible, and the stream is not showing a warning.
Choose video settings and test bandwidth
Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to match the source video and the connection available to the encoder. There is no one bitrate that is right for every resolution, frame rate, and network. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings and streaming recommendations as the starting point for your chosen format, then test the actual feed before relying on it.
- Leave about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream’s bitrate, as YouTube recommends. A connection that only just matches the chosen bitrate has little room for normal fluctuations.
- Test the full path from the encoder to YouTube and monitor stream health during the test. A successful local preview does not prove the upload is stable.
- For an always-on schedule, decide who or what will notice a network loss, encoder failure, or YouTube warning, and how the feed will be restarted. Do not assume an encoder reconnects correctly unless you have verified its behavior.
- YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder connections. Use the endpoint and connection details presented in Live Control Room and follow YouTube’s current instructions.
Plan for continuity and replay limits
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise an uninterrupted stream indefinitely or a complete archive for a broadcast longer than 12 hours. If viewers need replays, plan separate sessions and archive decisions around that limit instead of assuming a 24-hour stream will produce one complete replay.
A 24/7 channel therefore needs an operating plan, not just a playlist. Decide how the feed will be monitored, who will respond to a failure, and how you will restart or hand off sessions. Test that process before depending on it for a continuous schedule.

Protect the channel and the content
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match can interrupt or terminate the stream. Having a licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube says a rights holder may need to allowlist the channel. Resolve rights and allowlisting questions with the rights holder before putting licensed material into a continuous feed; review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
All content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, as well as applicable rights and legal requirements. Repeating a video around the clock does not exempt it from those rules. Check YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
India-specific context and monetization
YouTube’s India-facing monetization guidance lists ad-revenue eligibility alternatives of 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the prior 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days, along with other requirements. YouTube reviews channels for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP); running a stream continuously does not itself qualify a channel or guarantee monetization. Features can have separate eligibility conditions. Review the current YPP requirements for India before making revenue plans.

The National Informatics Centre describes providing live and on-demand webcast services, including 24×7 webcasts for government channels, and lists OBS as an encoder option. That is context for government webcasting, not evidence of private-channel eligibility or a guarantee of YouTube uptime. The requirements above are YouTube’s channel requirements; check applicable rights and legal terms for your content and use.

The feed buffers or stream health deteriorates
Compare the encoder’s bitrate with the available upload bandwidth. Reduce the bitrate or output demands if the connection cannot sustain them, and preserve the roughly 20% upload headroom YouTube recommends. Check the network path and monitor stream health during another test.
The stream stops unexpectedly
Check the encoder, computer or hardware power, network connection, and YouTube’s stream-health warnings. Restart the feed using your recovery procedure, then verify viewer playback. For a continuous schedule, determine in advance who will respond when the feed drops.
A copyright match interrupts the broadcast
Identify the matched material and confirm that you have the necessary rights for live use. If the material is licensed, ask the rights holder whether the channel must be allowlisted. Do not assume that a licence alone prevents YouTube from interrupting the feed.
