If Streamlabs Desktop reports a missing Visual C++ runtime or fails to start with a related error, install both the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables for x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit), then restart Windows. Streamlabs’ dedicated prerequisite instructions call for both packages. If either installer fails, repair the newest installed C++ entries in Windows Apps and restart before trying Streamlabs again.
Why Visual C++ Redistributables can affect Streamlabs Desktop
Programs built with Microsoft Visual C++ can rely on runtime libraries that are installed separately from the application. Microsoft describes the Redistributable as providing these libraries. A missing or damaged runtime can prevent an app from launching or cause related errors, but installing it is not a guaranteed fix for every Streamlabs crash or connection problem.
Streamlabs’ dedicated prerequisite article, last updated April 22, 2025, requests the Visual C++ 2015–2022 packages for both x86 and x64. Its general getting-started guidance has also surfaced with a 2017 label. Microsoft describes the current v14 Redistributable as shared across Visual Studio 2017 and later toolsets, and recommends the latest supported package for eligible applications. Use Microsoft’s official latest-supported downloads page for the current package, and follow any newer instructions presented by Streamlabs.
Install both packages and restart Windows
- Get the installers from Microsoft. Open Microsoft Learn’s “Latest Supported Visual C++ Redistributable Downloads” page and select the x86 and x64 installers for the supported v14 Redistributable. Do not use third-party repacks or download sites.
- Install x86 and x64. Run each downloaded installer and complete its prompts. Streamlabs specifically asks for both architectures, including for users on 64-bit Windows. The packages serve different application targets; Microsoft notes that the installed architecture must match an application’s target architecture.
- Restart the computer. Save your work and reboot Windows after both installations finish.
- Retry Streamlabs Desktop. Open the app and check whether the original error is gone. If it remains, note the exact error text; it may point to a different cause.
If a Redistributable installer fails, repair the installed entries
Streamlabs recommends repairing the newest installed C++ entries when setup fails. Windows wording and navigation can vary by release, but the Apps settings provide the repair controls.

- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps (called Apps & features on some Windows versions).
- Search for Microsoft Visual C++ and identify the newest installed Redistributable entries. Use the entries corresponding to the current package and check both x86 and x64 where available.
- Open the entry’s menu or select it, choose Modify, then choose Repair in the setup window.
- Complete repair for both architectures, then restart Windows.
- Retry the installer or launch Streamlabs Desktop again.
If installation still will not complete
- Run the standalone installer as administrator. Right-click the Microsoft installer and select Run as administrator, then accept the Windows prompt if you trust the Microsoft-signed file.
- Install pending Windows updates. Restart if Windows Update requests it, then retry the Redistributable installer.
- Check security software cautiously. Microsoft notes that antivirus software can block setup. Do not leave protection disabled; if you temporarily change a setting to diagnose a block, restore protection immediately afterward.
- Collect logs if the failure persists. Microsoft’s installer troubleshooting guidance describes collecting Visual Studio logs; the VC Redist logs are included in the collected Visual Studio logs. These can help support identify the failing package or prerequisite.
If Streamlabs still shows an error after installation
The runtime is only one possible cause. Streamlabs’ crash troubleshooting guidance also points to Windows updates, graphics-driver updates, running the app as administrator, and checking firewall or antivirus allowance. For a going-live problem, its separate going-live troubleshooting material includes the Redistributables among possible steps, but connectivity and service configuration can require their own diagnosis.
- Update Windows and restart.
- Install the latest graphics driver offered for your GPU and Windows version, then restart.
- Try launching Streamlabs Desktop as administrator.
- Check whether firewall or security software is blocking Streamlabs, allowing the app only if appropriate for your system.
- Record the exact error message and when it appears. If it continues, submit a ticket to Streamlabs support with the message and any relevant installer logs.
Or let it run in the cloud
Installing Visual C++ can address a Streamlabs prerequisite error; it does not itself keep a YouTube channel live. If your separate goal is to loop uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo runs that stream from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It supports the quality you upload up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and gives the first day free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
