Schedule a separate YouTube live event for each gaming series in YouTube Studio. Give every event a recognizable title and description, check its privacy and start time, then organize the completed broadcasts as replays in series-specific playlists. A scheduled event is an upcoming broadcast; a live replay is the video left behind after a broadcast ends.
Schedule a distinct live event for each series
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then open the Manage tab in Live Control Room and schedule a stream. Choose to create a new stream or reuse settings from a previous one. YouTube’s scheduling guidance describes this Live Control Room workflow.
- Enter a series-specific title and description. For example, name an event “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree — Episode 4” rather than using a generic title such as “Gaming stream.” A consistent game or series name helps viewers recognize the broadcast and helps you distinguish its event and archive later. This naming convention is a practical recommendation, not a YouTube requirement.
- Check the event’s privacy setting and scheduled start time before saving. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can select Notify me. YouTube’s guidance on scheduled streams explains the upcoming-event experience.
- Review all copied details if you reused settings. Reuse can copy metadata, settings, and the stream key; update the title, description, schedule, and any other details that should differ for this series.
Connect your gaming setup and launch the scheduled event
An encoder is useful for gameplay broadcasts that need overlays, gameplay capture, or external production hardware, but it is not required just to keep series separate. YouTube also has separate webcam and mobile live workflows. The schedule-and-encoder steps below apply when you are producing through an encoder.
- Open the scheduled stream in Live Control Room and use its stream URL and stream key to configure your encoder. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not publish or share it. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
- Start the encoder output and wait for the incoming video preview in Live Control Room. Check that the correct game, audio, and overlays appear before launching the event.
- When the preview is ready, start the scheduled broadcast from Live Control Room. Confirm the event is live before you begin the planned episode.
Find completed broadcasts and organize replays by series
After the broadcast, open YouTube Studio > Content > Live to find current, upcoming, and past live streams. A completed event’s archive is its live replay; the next installment needs its own scheduled event. YouTube recommends organizing archives and highlight clips into playlists. A separate playlist for each game or series is a useful browsing choice, not a platform requirement. See YouTube’s live replay and archive guidance.
- Use the same series naming pattern in event titles so past episodes are easy to scan.
- Add completed replays to the playlist for that game or series; keep highlights there too if that suits your channel.
- Check the replay after processing and update its details or playlist placement if needed.
Protect important broadcasts with a local recording
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is a risk threshold, not a guarantee that every shorter stream will produce a usable archive. For an important long broadcast, record a local copy and verify that recording separately rather than relying only on YouTube’s replay. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Troubleshoot scheduling and replay problems
- The new event shows the wrong series or episode: If you reused settings, check the copied title, description, schedule, privacy, and stream key before saving. Reuse copies more than the basic connection setup.
- The event is not visible to viewers as expected: Recheck its privacy setting and scheduled time in Live Control Room. Scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, and viewers can opt into a reminder.
- No preview appears from the encoder: Confirm that the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the intended scheduled event, that its output is running, and that the key has not been changed or mistyped. Keep the key private.
- A completed broadcast is missing or incomplete: Check YouTube Studio > Content > Live. If the stream exceeded 12 hours, YouTube says it may not have been captured; a local recording is the safer backup for important broadcasts.
