Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can run a YouTube radio station with OBS over an Indian broadband connection if your sustained upload speed can support the stream settings you choose. Measure upload performance where and when the PC will run, start with a modest video profile and bitrate, then test the complete broadcast before relying on it. There is no single minimum speed that suits every connection or radio visual.
What you need before setting up OBS
- A YouTube channel verified for live streaming, with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- A computer running OBS, an internet connection with enough stable upload capacity for your chosen bitrate, and the radio audio and visual you plan to broadcast.
- Permission to stream the music in every territory where the stream will be available. Access to a track or a personal music subscription does not, by itself, establish broadcast rights.
OBS sends the stream directly from your computer to YouTube; OBS says, “There are no OBS servers – the connection goes directly from your computer to the streaming service.” That makes the connection at the streaming location—not the broadband plan’s advertised download speed—the relevant test. See the OBS Help Portal.
Measure upload capacity and choose a starting quality
Test the connection you will actually use
Run an upload speed test from the computer and location where OBS will stream. YouTube Help recommends: “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” A single speed-test result is not a guarantee of sustained performance, so repeat the measurement at the times you expect to broadcast and test OBS with representative audio and any moving graphics. Check your provider’s terms for plan-specific limits; no particular Indian city, ISP, plan or data allowance can be assumed.
Set the stream bitrate below the sustained upload capacity you observe, leaving headroom for ordinary variation and other traffic. If your results fluctuate, choose a lower profile rather than configuring OBS at the highest brief speed-test result.

Use YouTube’s encoder recommendations as a ceiling to assess
YouTube’s current encoder-settings page lists the following recommended video bitrates for H.264. These are YouTube recommendations, not a promise that a given Indian broadband connection can sustain them. The page does not display a publication year. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
| Video profile | H.264 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
For a mostly static radio cover, a low resolution and frame rate are often a sensible starting point: a still image does not need 60 fps motion. This is a practical inference, not a YouTube rule. Choose a profile that looks acceptable and that your connection can sustain, then verify it in a real test.

YouTube also lists H.265 and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, with different recommended rates: 3 Mbps at 480p30; 6 Mbps at 720p30 or 720p60; 10 Mbps at 1080p30; and 12 Mbps at 1080p60. Use one of these only if the encoder available to you supports it reliably. YouTube lists H.264, H.265 or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate encoding for RTMP/RTMPS.
Create the YouTube broadcast and connect OBS
- Confirm live access. In YouTube Studio, check that the channel is verified and eligible to stream. YouTube requires a verified channel without a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days; availability can depend on channel status. See YouTube live-streaming tips.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, and set its title, visibility and other broadcast details. YouTube’s live stream settings guide explains encoder stream setup.
- Copy the stream URL and key. Use the ingestion details provided for that broadcast. The stream key tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. Reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, use its YouTube streaming-service workflow or enter the matching ingestion details from Live Control Room. OBS labels and screens can change between releases, so follow the current controls shown by your installed version rather than relying on an outdated menu name. The key and URL must correspond to the YouTube broadcast you created.
- Set video output. Select a supported resolution and frame rate, then configure a constant bitrate (CBR) suited to the measured connection and the YouTube recommendations above. For a static image, begin conservatively rather than defaulting to a high frame rate.
- Set keyframes and audio. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says it should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, its advanced recommendations list AAC or MP3 at 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate.
- Choose latency for the show. A one-way radio stream usually does not need very low latency unless you are interacting with listeners in real time. YouTube warns that lower latency can increase viewer buffering. Prefer a stable setting when immediate interaction is not important; details are in Manage live stream settings.
- Run a controlled test before the real broadcast. Use a private, unlisted or otherwise controlled test with the actual audio and representative movement. Check YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators before making the stream public.
Clear music rights before going live
YouTube’s live terms require you to have the rights needed to exploit the live content on Google services, including music licensing rights. Read the YouTube live-stream terms and confirm that your permissions cover live streaming and the relevant territories.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match can interrupt or terminate a broadcast if the issue is not resolved. Even if you have a license, a rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the stream not to be interrupted. YouTube explains this in Copyright issues with live streams. Keep records of permissions and ask the rights owner about allowlisting when applicable.
Check stream health and fix common problems
During the test, watch both YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s connection status. OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide notes that increasing dropped frames and a yellow or red connection indicator point to an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Dropped frames keep rising; OBS connection indicator turns yellow or red | The connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate. | Reduce the bitrate; if needed, also reduce resolution or frame rate. Test again while monitoring YouTube’s stream health. |
| A speed test looks adequate, but OBS still drops frames | A brief measurement may not reflect sustained upload performance or conditions during the broadcast. | Repeat tests at the streaming location and likely broadcast times, then run a representative OBS test. Look for local network instability and competing traffic as possible causes, not assumed facts. |
| YouTube does not accept the feed | The stream may not be connected to the broadcast’s correct ingestion URL or key, or the channel may not have live access. | Check the URL and key against the current Live Control Room broadcast, keep the key private, and confirm channel eligibility in YouTube Studio. |
| The live stream is interrupted after a music match | YouTube detected third-party content, or rights handling for the matched content is unresolved. | Resolve the match through the appropriate rights process. If you are licensed, contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting; a license alone may not prevent interruption. |
| Viewers report buffering | The selected latency may be too low for reliable playback under viewer conditions. | If real-time interaction is not essential, choose a less aggressive latency setting and test playback. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a 24/7 YouTube radio station, OBS requires the streaming computer and its internet connection to remain available. StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded material from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
- Nothing has to stay running at home.
- Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required.
- Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera feed, and it streams to YouTube. To try it, start your free first day with StreamNeo.
