To show product demos in sequence on YouTube Live, create an OBS scene for each demo and switch between them with scene hotkeys or Studio Mode. If each demo is in a separate application window, OBS’s Automatic Scene Switcher can switch scenes when you focus the matching window. That is window-triggered switching, not a timed scene loop: the official OBS example documents switching on window focus, not advancing through scenes at set intervals.
If you need demos to rotate automatically on a schedule, verify that a current OBS feature or maintained plugin supports that before relying on it. The workflow below covers the documented options and how to connect OBS to YouTube.
Choose how OBS will switch demos
OBS scenes are collections of sources. Make one scene per demo, then choose a switching method that fits how you present:

Build a scene for each product demo
- Create and name the scenes. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to add one scene per demo. Give each a recognizable name, such as “Demo 1 — Dashboard” or “Demo 2 — Checkout.”
- Add the sources each scene needs. In the Sources panel, add the relevant application or display capture, browser content, image, video or audio source. OBS supports source types including audio, browser, display, game and image inputs; choose the appropriate capture source for your demo rather than assuming every app is captured the same way.
- Check framing and audio. Confirm that the content fits the canvas and that the right audio is audible for each scene. Switch between scenes in OBS before connecting to YouTube to catch missing sources or unexpected layouts.

Set up the switching method
Option 1: Assign a hotkey to each scene
- Open OBS settings and go to Hotkeys.
- Find the scene-switching action for each scene and assign a distinct key or key combination.
- Apply the settings, then test each shortcut while watching the program output. Avoid combinations you use for typing or controlling the demo application.
This is the most direct method when you want to control the pace and talk through each product. The scene changes when you trigger it; OBS does not infer when one demo is finished.

Option 2: Prepare scenes in Studio Mode
- Enable Studio Mode in OBS.
- Select the next demo scene in the preview side and check its sources and framing.
- Use the desired transition to send that prepared scene to the live output.
Studio Mode separates the scene you are preparing from the scene viewers currently see. It is useful for deliberate transitions, but still requires an operator to choose and transition the next scene.
Option 3: Switch when a demo window is focused
When each demo runs in its own application window, OBS’s Automatic Scene Switcher can associate scenes with windows. In the OBS 31.1+ example in its guide, you configure the switcher from Tools, associate the relevant window with a scene, and activate it. Focusing a configured window then switches OBS to its associated scene.

This is useful when moving between separate demo applications naturally changes the active window. It is less suitable if you need precise narration timing or if another window may unexpectedly take focus. The cited OBS example does not document an interval-based carousel, so do not treat window switching as a hands-free timed loop.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream creation workflow and choose to stream with an encoder. Scheduling can help you promote the event and let viewers set reminders.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. YouTube provides these in the encoder setup. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key and server details as required by the chosen connection method. YouTube’s encoder instructions say: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Start OBS streaming and check the preview. Wait for video to appear in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Confirm that the active scene, picture and audio are right before starting the public broadcast.
- Start the YouTube broadcast. Follow the Live Control Room prompts to go live. Keep OBS and the control room visible enough to monitor the stream.
Preflight the demo loop and monitor it live
- Run through every scene and switching trigger before the event. Check that a window-focus change does not accidentally select the wrong scene.
- Use an unlisted test stream if you want to rehearse the encoder connection and inspect the preview without a public event. YouTube recommends encoder setup in advance and checking the preview.
- Monitor audio and video during the broadcast, including after each scene change. YouTube advises continuously monitoring stream quality; see its live-streaming tips.
- YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. This is an archive-workflow detail, not a guarantee that a long-running loop will remain live indefinitely.
Common problems and fixes
A scene does not change when you press its hotkey
Check that a hotkey is assigned to the intended scene in OBS’s Hotkeys settings, then test it again while OBS is active. Reassign a shortcut if another application or action is intercepting it.

Window focus switches to the wrong scene
Review the window-to-scene associations in Automatic Scene Switcher and confirm that each demo has the expected window. If the demo opens in a different window or focus moves elsewhere, use a hotkey or Studio Mode instead.
The YouTube preview is missing or wrong
Confirm OBS is streaming, the stream URL and key are entered correctly, and YouTube Studio is showing the matching scheduled or active stream. Check that the intended scene is on the OBS program output and wait for the Live Control Room preview before going live.

Viewers cannot hear or see part of a demo
Check the sources and audio for that particular scene, then switch to it in OBS and inspect the output. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video continuously, not only before the broadcast.
