For a compatible Intel mini PC, start with OBS’s Auto Configuration Wizard, then test a conservative YouTube Live profile: H.264, CBR, 720p at 30 fps, 8 Mbps video bitrate, a 2-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS. Use stereo AAC audio at 128 kbps when available. These are platform-based starting settings, not a promise that every mini PC or internet connection can sustain them; test the actual scene and monitor YouTube’s stream health.
Check that OBS can use Intel Quick Sync
An Intel processor label by itself does not guarantee that OBS will offer Quick Sync (QSV). OBS documents QSV support on Windows and Linux with Intel HD Graphics on Core-i 2xxx (Sandy Bridge) or newer, and recommends Core-i 4xxx (Haswell) or newer because earlier QSV generations had lower image quality. Keep the Intel graphics driver current. OBS’s QSV guidance describes the compatibility conditions.
- Open OBS and check the encoder choices in its output settings. Select an Intel QSV option only if it is actually available for the mini PC.
- If the machine also has NVIDIA or AMD graphics, OBS generally advises using the primary graphics adapter’s encoder instead.
- Do not assume a compatible processor means the entire stream workload is suitable: resolution, frame rate, encoder, and scene complexity all affect system demand. OBS’s system requirements guidance recommends validating the intended workload.
Start with OBS’s configuration wizard
- In OBS, select Tools → Auto Configuration Wizard.
- Follow the wizard and choose a hardware encoder if it offers an Intel QSV option for this system.
- Use the resulting profile as a starting point, not a guarantee. Confirm the settings below against YouTube’s current ingest recommendations, then test the scene you intend to stream.
The available OBS labels and choices can vary by system and setup. If QSV is missing, first verify that the integrated graphics and driver are enabled and supported; do not substitute a guessed encoder setting.
Set a practical YouTube Live baseline
In OBS’s output and video settings, use the following values as a cautious starting profile for a mini PC. YouTube’s figures below are recommended H.264 ingest bitrates, not a guarantee of stable performance on your specific network or hardware. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance recommends RTMPS and a 2-second keyframe interval, with no more than 4 seconds.

YouTube accepts H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 ingestion, but the codecs available in OBS depend on the encoder hardware and setup. H.264 is the simplest baseline for this configuration.
Choose resolution and bitrate for your connection
If the 720p30 test is stable and you need more detail or smoother motion, adjust one step at a time. The table gives YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations and minimums for the listed modes; these values do not establish what a particular mini PC or connection can sustain.

For comparison, YouTube’s 720p30 AV1/H.265 guidance gives a 2 Mbps minimum and 6 Mbps recommendation; at 1080p30 it gives a 4 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommendation. Those figures apply to those codecs, not the H.264 baseline above. YouTube’s guidance was accessed October 3, 2026.
- Choose a mode based on available upload capacity and its stability, not just a speed-test peak. Leave headroom for normal fluctuations and other household or office traffic.
- Higher resolution or frame rate needs more upload capacity and can increase system demand. YouTube’s H.264 recommendation rises from 8 Mbps at 720p30 to 17 Mbps at 1080p60.
- Fast motion may benefit from more frames per second, while a mostly static scene may not. Test representative movement before settling on a profile.
Configure YouTube and test before the real stream
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the scheduled live stream and copy its stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the key using the available interface. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on stream or share it publicly.
- In OBS, set the encoder, CBR bitrate, keyframe interval, resolution, and frame rate to the values you intend to test. Confirm the stream connection uses RTMPS when the selected service configuration offers it.
- Start a private or otherwise non-public test where your YouTube setup allows it. Include the same kind of movement and audio as the planned stream; a static desktop test will not reveal every load issue in a busy game scene.
- Watch OBS for dropped frames or rendering/encoding warnings and check YouTube’s stream health. If the connection is unstable, lower the frame rate or resolution, then test again. Change one variable at a time so the cause of improvement or failure is clearer.
- Once the test is stable, start the intended event and continue monitoring stream health.
YouTube specifically advises testing with audio and movement similar to the eventual stream. Passing OBS’s basic hardware compatibility guidance does not prove that a complex game capture, overlays, browser sources, and audio setup will run smoothly.

Common Quick Sync and stream problems
QSV does not appear in OBS
Check that the mini PC’s Intel graphics hardware is supported, enabled, and using a current driver, then restart OBS. OBS’s documented support range starts at Intel Core-i 2xxx with Intel HD Graphics on Windows or Linux, with Core-i 4xxx or newer recommended for quality. The CPU family alone is not sufficient proof that QSV will be exposed.
OBS cannot start the QSV encoder
Update the Intel graphics driver and confirm OBS is configured to run on the integrated GPU when using QSV. Intel describes this as a troubleshooting case for systems with Intel UHD Graphics 730, particularly hybrid-graphics configurations; it is not established as a universal explanation for QSV startup failures. YouTube reports unstable connection or dropped frames
Compare the selected bitrate with the relevant YouTube recommendation and assess whether the upload connection can sustain it consistently. Lower resolution or frame rate, test again, and avoid raising bitrate to compensate for a struggling connection.
The stream connects, but gameplay stutters or the picture degrades
Encoder availability is not the same as end-to-end capacity. Reduce scene load where practical, simplify capture sources or overlays, and test at a lower resolution or frame rate. Check whether OBS identifies encoding/rendering strain or whether YouTube reports a connection issue; those point to different bottlenecks.
