Schedule each broadcast as a separate event in YouTube Studio, then use OBS Profiles to keep the corresponding stream settings and keys distinct. A stream key routes OBS’s encoder feed to YouTube; it does not choose a playlist. Check playlist assignment in YouTube Studio rather than relying on OBS or the key.
What YouTube Studio and OBS each control
- YouTube Studio: scheduled events, their watch pages, timing, and audience-facing metadata. YouTube’s scheduling workflow is to open Create > Go Live, choose Manage, then schedule a stream. See YouTube’s live-stream settings guide.
- OBS: the encoder connection and its settings, including the selected stream service and key. OBS Profiles can save stream and output settings; Scene Collections separately save scenes.
- Playlist membership: do not treat a stream key as a playlist selector. YouTube’s documentation explains what keys do but does not establish where—or whether—the current scheduled-event editor lets you assign a playlist in advance.
YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address” in Manage live stream settings. Keep keys private, just as you would other account credentials.
Schedule a separate event for each broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go Live, then open Manage.
- Choose the option to schedule a stream. Create an event for each broadcast that needs its own title, time, watch page, or playlist organization.
- Enter the event details in YouTube Studio. YouTube says stream metadata can be edited during creation or from the stream settings page. Check the current event editor for a playlist control; the available documentation does not locate one or confirm playlist preassignment.
- If the scheduled event editor does not offer the playlist control you need, add the resulting video to the intended playlist through that video’s details in YouTube Studio after the broadcast. Confirm the playlist membership there.
YouTube allows you to reuse settings from a previous stream. That copies the prior key, metadata, and other settings, though you can edit them after creating the new event. Reuse settings only when carrying those details forward is intentional; otherwise, create a new event and verify its details. See YouTube’s settings guide.
Save separate stream configurations in OBS
- In OBS, create a Profile for each reusable configuration and give it a distinctive name, such as Channel A — Event 1. Profiles hold stream and output settings. Menu wording may vary by OBS version; the OBS documentation on Profiles is dated January 14, 2022.
- Configure the Profile’s streaming service and the key intended for the corresponding YouTube event. If you use a custom key, label your configuration clearly so you can match it to the right event.
- If broadcasts also require different scene layouts, create or select a separately named Scene Collection. Profiles do not store scenes; OBS treats Scene Collections as a separate setting. See the OBS Profiles guide.
- Before going live, select the intended Profile and confirm its key against the scheduled event in YouTube Studio. Do not assume that a Profile or key assigns the video to a playlist.
YouTube supports custom stream keys that can be reused. A single reusable key is simpler when you want a consistent encoder destination; separate keys can make configurations easier to distinguish. Neither approach, by itself, organizes broadcasts into playlists.

Connect OBS to the scheduled event and go live
- Open the scheduled broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and locate its encoder connection details.
- In the intended OBS Profile, enter or select the event’s stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe connecting an encoder with the stream URL and key.
- Start streaming in OBS. Follow the current Live Control Room prompts to check the incoming preview and click Go live when required. YouTube’s instructions describe waiting for the preview before going live.
- After the broadcast, verify the resulting video’s details and playlist membership in YouTube Studio if you need to confirm its organization.
Scheduling can promote an upcoming event: YouTube says it may appear in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can choose Notify me, and the scheduled URL can be shared. See Get started with live streaming.
Choose between one key, multiple keys, and reused settings

Respect YouTube’s simultaneous stream limits
YouTube’s live-streaming help states that a channel can have up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key at the same time. Both limits apply; creating more keys does not bypass the channel-wide limit. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming help because interface details and limits can change.

Troubleshoot a wrong event, key, or playlist
- The broadcast appears under the wrong event: stop and verify the selected OBS Profile, stream URL, and key against the intended scheduled event before reconnecting. A mismatch between the chosen event and encoder configuration is a routing problem, not a playlist setting.
- The new event inherited old details: if you used Reuse settings, review its copied key, metadata, and other settings in YouTube Studio and edit what should differ.
- The video is not in the expected playlist: check the video’s details in YouTube Studio and add it to the intended playlist if needed. Do not try to fix playlist membership by changing the stream key.
- OBS shows the wrong scenes: check the selected Scene Collection as well as the Profile. They save different things.
- You cannot start another broadcast: check whether the channel already has 10 active streams or the selected key already has 3 active streams; both caps apply simultaneously.
