Not by itself. A 24/7 YouTube stream gives people more time to encounter your channel, but YouTube’s published guidance does not establish that nonstop streaming causes a new channel to gain subscribers. Treat it as a format experiment: viewers still need a reason to find the stream, stay, and subscribe.
What a 24/7 stream can—and cannot—do
Live streaming can help creators connect with viewers in real time. YouTube says a shared experience such as watching a live stream can build a deeper sense of community between creator and viewer (YouTube Help: Why choose Live). That is a reason to consider live as a format, not evidence that running continuously wins subscribers.
The official YouTube material on live features and metrics does not provide a causal study or success rate for new channels streaming around the clock. There is no supported number of extra subscribers to expect from uptime alone. More hours live may create more opportunities for discovery, but opportunity is not the same as impressions, watch time, or subscriptions.
- Discovery: Can the intended audience find the stream?
- Retention: Does what is happening give viewers a reason to keep watching?
- Conversion: Do those viewers choose to subscribe?
For a gaming channel, for example, a continuous stream needs a clear viewer proposition—such as a useful, entertaining, or distinctive gameplay format—rather than simply an always-on status. A live feed with no compelling reason to watch does not become a growth strategy merely by staying live.

Choose the live format for the audience you want to reach
YouTube’s documented feature comparison distinguishes vertical and horizontal live streams. Vertical live can be discovered in the Shorts feed and is scrollable there; horizontal live is not. That difference may make vertical worth testing when the Shorts feed is relevant to your intended audience, but placement does not guarantee impressions or subscribers (YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming).

These are format and feature differences, not a ranking of which format grows a channel faster. Choose based on the game, presentation, interaction, and discovery surface that fit your audience.

Make discovery intentional: schedule, promote, and package the stream
Being live is not the same as being promoted. YouTube recommends sharing a stream link at least 48 hours before it starts, sharing it through social accounts and websites, and creating highlights while live. It also says public stream archives may increase the reach of future streams (YouTube Help: Promote your live stream).
- Schedule a broadcast when advance notice helps. Scheduled streams may appear in subscriber feeds, where viewers can choose “Notify me.” A new channel may have few subscribers to notify, so sharing with an existing audience or relevant communities can matter more at the outset (YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings).
- Share the link ahead of time. YouTube’s guidance says to share it at least 48 hours before the event. Use channels where the people likely to care about this stream already spend time.
- Give late arrivals an entry point. Create highlights while live, and leave the archive public when it is useful and appropriate. A highlight can help someone understand the stream’s appeal without catching it from the beginning.
- Describe the stream accurately. Set a clear title and explain what viewers will see. YouTube says tags play a minimal role in video discovery, so do not treat tags as a substitute for a compelling premise or promotion (YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings).
Measure subscriber conversion, not just uptime
After a test stream, review the available live metrics in YouTube Studio. YouTube lists new subscribers during the stream alongside viewing measures such as watch time, playbacks, average watch time, peak concurrent viewers, and traffic sources (YouTube Help: See your live stream’s metrics).

- Traffic sources and playbacks help show whether people are finding or starting the stream.
- Average watch time and watch time help indicate whether viewers stay.
- Peak concurrent viewers is a snapshot of simultaneous viewing, not a subscriber count.
- New subscribers is the measure most directly tied to this question.
Compare the measures together. If a stream gets playbacks but viewers leave quickly, work on the content and opening experience. If people watch but few subscribe, make the channel’s ongoing value clear and give viewers an appropriate reason to follow it. If hardly anyone finds it, improve the format and promotion before concluding that continuous uptime is the answer. YouTube does not publish an optimal 24/7 schedule or a guaranteed subscriber conversion rate.
Start with a sustainable test, not an all-or-nothing commitment
Run a repeatable concept on a schedule you can maintain, then compare its discovery, viewing, and subscriber results with your other content. Test vertical live if the Shorts feed suits the audience; test horizontal if the wider presentation or its listed live features are more useful. Keep an archive public if it serves viewers, and use highlights to make the stream easier to sample.

YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming. An encoder is relevant for setups involving overlays or connected hardware, and YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events; it also says creators do not need to start with expensive equipment (YouTube Help: YouTube live streaming tips). Use gear appropriate to the format. A camera or encoder cannot answer whether the stream’s idea will earn an audience.
