How to Switch a 24/7 YouTube Stream from Restream to Gyre

A careful Restream-to-Gyre cutover starts with uploaded video and a verified new YouTube broadcast—not an assumed transfer of the active stream.

Switching a continuous YouTube broadcast from Restream to Gyre means setting up a new Gyre broadcast—not transferring a live encoder session or assuming the same YouTube event will carry over. Prepare and upload your prerecorded videos, connect the intended YouTube channel, verify Gyre’s broadcast in YouTube, and only then stop Restream. The documented workflows do not promise an uninterrupted handoff.

What changes when you move from Restream to Gyre?

The services use different workflows. Restream’s documented encoder setup sends a feed from streaming software to Restream, which then routes it to enabled destinations. It can also connect to a YouTube channel or an existing YouTube event (Restream’s streaming-software workflow; existing-event guidance). Gyre’s continuous-stream workflow instead uses prerecorded files uploaded to Gyre, arranged in a playlist, then broadcast after connecting the YouTube channel (Gyre).

So plan this as a controlled cutover to a separately configured broadcast. The available documentation does not establish that Gyre can import your Restream configuration, preserve a particular event ID, or guarantee zero downtime.

Before switching: record the current YouTube setup

  • Identify the exact YouTube channel and whether Restream is feeding a new broadcast or an existing YouTube event.
  • Record the current title, description, visibility, thumbnail, and any viewer-facing schedule so you can recreate or check them in Gyre.
  • Decide how you will tell viewers about a possible brief interruption or a change in the broadcast page.
  • Keep stream keys private. YouTube describes them as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not put a key in screenshots or shared notes. If it may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.

Move the 24/7 stream to Gyre

  1. Prepare the prerecorded videos. Gyre’s help documentation says source files must be uploaded to Gyre storage. Use its video preparation guidance to check file and encoding requirements for your intended output.
  2. Upload the files and build the playlist. Add the videos you want broadcast and put them in the intended order. Check that the playlist contains the right versions and that playback reaches the end and continues as intended.
  3. Connect the correct YouTube channel in Gyre. Gyre’s product page describes connecting a channel, scheduling a 24/7 stream, and starting the broadcast. Its YouTube API update describes authorizing through the YouTube API and creating the broadcast with title, description, tags, and thumbnail parameters. Interface details can change, so confirm the authorized channel and the resulting event in YouTube Studio.
  4. Set and verify the broadcast details. Check the title, description, thumbnail, privacy, schedule, and channel in YouTube Studio. Confirm the broadcast is playing the expected playlist and that playback looks and sounds right. Do not assume the old Restream event or its metadata has been carried over.
  5. Cut over only after verification. Once the Gyre broadcast is visible and working as intended, stop the Restream output. Restream documents toggling channel destinations and connecting or disconnecting an existing YouTube event; check which service is feeding which event before stopping anything (Restream’s existing-event guidance). The documented workflows do not establish an automatic handoff between services.

Check the video settings for your output

Use the guidance for the platform and workflow you are configuring, rather than treating one bitrate or encoding profile as universal. Restream’s current YouTube guide lists H.264, 240p–2160p resolution, 3,000–40,000 Kbps depending on resolution and frame rate, up to 60 FPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval (maximum 4 seconds). Gyre’s preparation article provides narrower HD and full-HD encoding guidance. Match the uploaded source and intended output to the relevant service recommendations:

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

These are service recommendations, not a guarantee that every upload or channel will produce an identical result. After starting Gyre, inspect the actual YouTube playback rather than relying only on the source file’s properties.

Plan for archives and YouTube rules

Continuous streams and archives

Restream’s YouTube guide says YouTube has no stream-duration limit but only archives streams under 12 hours. For a 24/7 broadcast, do not expect the entire continuous stream to appear as one ordinary archived video. If you need a complete record, plan separate recordings or VODs and check YouTube’s current archive behavior before relying on it.

Rights and reused material

Switching streaming services does not change your responsibility for the material you broadcast. Make sure you have the rights needed for the videos, music, and other content in the playlist, and review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules for reused content before running a long loop. A stream remaining online does not itself establish permission to use its contents.

Troubleshoot a cutover that does not work

  • Gyre is connected to the wrong channel: Check the authorized account in Gyre and the channel shown for the broadcast in YouTube Studio before stopping Restream.
  • The expected broadcast is not visible: Check Gyre’s broadcast status and YouTube Studio for the newly created event. Do not assume the existing Restream event ID was reused; the documented workflows do not promise that.
  • The broadcast starts but plays the wrong content: Recheck the uploaded files and playlist order in Gyre, then verify playback in YouTube.
  • Video quality or playback is poor: Compare the source and output against the relevant Restream or Gyre encoding guidance above, then inspect the live YouTube playback.
  • Stopping Restream ends the wrong event: Recheck which service is feeding the event and which YouTube event is active before disconnecting or toggling a destination.
  • A stream key may have leaked: Treat it as a credential and reset it through YouTube Studio using YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
