If you are changing only the devotional video, audio, playlist, or scene, keep the encoder connected to the existing YouTube live stream and switch the content inside the encoder. In OBS, prepare the replacement source or scene first, then transition to it without pressing Stop Streaming. That avoids deliberately ending the session, but it cannot guarantee a perfectly gapless switch.
If you mean changing the encoder, stream key, destination, or managed loop service, that is a connection handoff—not a media change. YouTube’s setup guidance does not promise that switching providers preserves the same live event without interruption, so plan for a possible break rather than assuming the live page will continue unchanged.
First identify what you are changing
“Loop service” can mean the content being played, or the system sending the live feed to YouTube. Those are different operations:
- Program content: Change an OBS scene, media source, or playlist while OBS continues sending the existing feed.
- Stream connection: Change the encoder, destination URL, connected account, stream key, or managed service. This requires reconfiguring the outgoing feed, and seamless continuation of the current YouTube event is not established by YouTube’s guidance.
YouTube describes an encoder as software or standalone hardware that sends a feed to YouTube. It uses a stream URL and key for that connection. YouTube’s help page puts it plainly: “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Manage live stream settings.

Change the devotional content in OBS while keeping the stream live
Use this workflow when the YouTube event and outgoing encoder connection should stay the same, but the media shown or heard needs to change. Prepare the replacement before switching so viewers do not have to watch you build the scene.
- Confirm the YouTube event and encoder are already live. Keep the existing stream destination and session. Do not end the stream in YouTube Studio or press Stop Streaming in OBS if you want to retain the current session.
- Add the replacement media. In OBS, add a Media Source for a single local audio or video file and enable its Loop option if it should repeat. For a playlist, add a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist; VLC must be installed for this source to work. OBS documents these controls in Media Sources.
- Check the prepared source. Confirm that it plays, that the picture is framed as intended, and that the audio is audible at the desired level. Make sure the new source is included in the scene you plan to show.
- Prepare the switch in Studio Mode. OBS Studio Mode lets you prepare a scene separately from the live output, then transition it to viewers. Select the prepared scene and use the transition control when ready. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
- Keep the outgoing stream running. After the transition, check the YouTube preview and OBS connection indicators. Watching both is practical monitoring, not a guarantee against buffering, dropped frames, or network and equipment faults.
OBS stores stream and output settings in profiles, while scenes are managed separately. That distinction can help when checking whether a change is only to what viewers see or also to the connection settings; see Profiles.

When you are changing the encoder, key, or loop service
There is no universal, documented procedure here for transferring an active devotional stream between encoder software, hardware, or managed services without interruption. YouTube explains how an encoder connects and how to reset a key, but does not say that changing providers retains the same live event.
- Changing the stream key: YouTube says to update the encoder with the newly generated key after resetting it. Treat this as a planned reconfiguration, not a guaranteed seamless switch. Follow YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
- Changing encoder software or hardware: Confirm that the new encoder can be configured for YouTube’s ingest requirements and that you control the key. The sources do not establish a handoff method that preserves the current event.
- Changing a managed service: Before scheduling the change, ask the provider how it handles the YouTube event, reconnection, and loss of the outgoing feed. Do not assume a new service can take over the existing live page without a break.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide says to stop sending content to end the stream. If your priority is preserving the current event, avoid intentionally ending it—but be prepared for an interruption if the connection itself must change. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

OBS source or playlist versus a hardware encoder
A standalone hardware encoder is an option for sending a YouTube feed, but it is not required to change a loop source in OBS. The right choice depends on how you need to play and change the material; no particular device’s handoff behavior is established here.
| Approach | Useful when | Check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Media Source | You need to repeat one local media file and can prepare a scene change in OBS. | Test playback, looping, scene placement, and the transition before switching the live output. |
| OBS VLC Video source | You need a playlist rather than one repeating file. | VLC must be installed; test playlist playback and the loop setting in advance. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | You prefer a dedicated device for sending the feed to YouTube. | Verify how it accepts the source, maintains the YouTube connection, permits source changes, and recovers from a loss of signal. Seamless handoff behavior is not established for any specific device here. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube loop without leaving an encoder computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the devotional recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera.

- The replacement media is silent or does not play: Check that the file is supported and available locally, then verify the source’s playback and audio settings. For a VLC Video source, confirm VLC is installed.
- The playlist stops instead of repeating: Check that Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC source. For a single Media Source file, check its Loop option.
- The wrong scene reaches viewers: In Studio Mode, confirm the prepared scene before using the transition control. Make sure the replacement source is included and visible in that scene.
- The live session ends during the change: Check whether Stop Streaming was pressed in OBS or the stream was ended in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder guidance says stopping the sent content ends the stream.
- The encoder no longer connects after a key reset: Update the encoder with the newly generated stream key, then verify its connection and YouTube preview.
- Viewers report a pause or buffering: Check the encoder’s connection indicators and the YouTube preview. A prepared scene transition reduces setup exposure, but neither OBS nor YouTube documentation guarantees a fault-free transition.
Copyright and devotional-loop checks
Before putting a recording or playlist on a public live stream, make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for the music, recording, images, and other material it contains. Devotional context does not itself establish permission to rebroadcast a recording. Review YouTube’s current live-stream requirements and rights information before going live; this workflow does not determine whether a particular work is cleared for use.
