1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYou can run a continuous YouTube stream from OBS on a Mac by sending an encoder feed to YouTube with a stream URL and key. But a 24/7 live feed is not the same as one complete, dependable YouTube replay: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on very long streams. If the archive matters, plan shorter sessions and record locally.
Before you set up OBS
First confirm your channel is eligible to stream. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days; its getting-started guidance says creators must be at least 16. Check YouTube’s current eligibility details before scheduling: YouTube live-stream eligibility.
This guide uses the general YouTube and OBS encoder workflow. The cited documentation does not establish current menu labels for a particular macOS or OBS version, so the names you see may differ. On a Mac, leave OBS and the video source running, and do not assume the setup will survive sleep, power loss, an app crash, or an internet outage without testing.
Configure YouTube and OBS
- Create or select an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, create a stream or choose an existing one, and locate its stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. YouTube’s workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, choose YouTube as the service if it is available, then enter or authorize the stream key as prompted. Otherwise, use the custom server option and paste YouTube’s stream URL and key in OBS’s stream settings. Menu wording varies by version; use the fields for the service/server and stream key rather than guessing at a Mac-specific path.
- Set a conservative video profile. YouTube recommends RTMP/RTMPS delivery, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds). Start with a resolution and frame rate your connection can sustain. YouTube’s recommended H.264 examples include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps; those are recommendations, not guarantees that a particular connection can hold them. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
- Check audio and preview before going live. Start streaming from OBS and wait for the feed to appear in the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that both picture and sound are present. Depending on the event workflow, you may also need to press the control in YouTube Studio to bring the event live.
- Test realistic content. Run a test with the audio and amount of movement you expect in the actual stream. Watch stream health and YouTube’s messages, then adjust resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if the feed is unstable. A static desktop image is not a representative test of a fast-moving game.
Plan around YouTube’s archive and DVR limits
For a replay, keep sessions below 12 hours
YouTube says a live stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all and recommends keeping a local archive backup. That warning is qualified: it does not mean every stream over 12 hours will be lost, but it makes a single continuous YouTube archive an unsafe assumption. If a replay is important, schedule stream sessions shorter than 12 hours and record a local copy in OBS. Confirm the local recording file is growing during the broadcast, and make sure you have enough storage for your planned recording; the cited guidance does not specify a universal drive capacity or format. Read YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Long broadcasts may limit rewind
YouTube’s DVR guidance says rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers also cannot seek back to a point before the stream went live. A 24/7 feed therefore does not promise viewers a complete, rewindable record of everything that aired. Details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Keep the Mac stream healthy
OBS is one encoder in a chain that also depends on the Mac, the content source, power, network and YouTube’s ingest service. Monitor the Live Control Room’s stream health and check local recording growth while live. YouTube also recommends monitoring audio and video quality and testing encoder failover; its example is to stop the primary encoder or unplug its Ethernet cable and confirm playback rolls over to a backup encoder. A single OBS setup is not a tested failover arrangement.

Where practical, a wired Ethernet connection can avoid some local wireless instability. A USB-C-to-Gigabit-Ethernet adapter may be needed for a Mac without an Ethernet port; check compatibility with your specific Mac. Wired networking does not prevent an ISP outage, power failure, or encoder crash. YouTube’s operational advice is at YouTube live streaming tips.
Do not treat OBS reconnect settings as a complete 24/7 reliability plan. The available guidance does not establish a guaranteed reconnect time, a macOS sleep configuration, unattended restart behavior, or a full redundancy design. Test your actual Mac and workflow, including what happens after a network interruption and whether your local archive resumes as expected.

Troubleshoot common stream problems
- No preview in YouTube Studio: Confirm OBS is sending to the correct YouTube stream URL and that the stream key belongs to the selected event. Re-enter the key privately if needed; never paste it into a public chat or post.
- Dropped frames or intermittent disconnections: OBS identifies network problems between the computer and ingest server, or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain, as common causes. Reduce bitrate and, if necessary, resolution or frame rate; test again while monitoring stream health. See OBS stream connection troubleshooting.
- Video works but audio is missing or wrong: Check the audio source and levels in OBS, then verify sound in the YouTube preview before going live. Include audio in the representative test rather than relying on a silent video check.
- The YouTube replay is missing or incomplete: Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use shorter sessions when the YouTube archive matters and keep a local recording as backup; do not assume the platform will turn a continuous feed into one complete replay.
- The Mac stops streaming while unattended: Check whether the Mac, OBS, power, network, or content source stopped. The cited setup guidance does not promise automatic recovery from every local failure. Reproduce the failure during a test and verify the specific recovery plan rather than assuming reconnect behavior will keep the channel live.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving a Mac and OBS running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos on YouTube from the cloud; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, it supports the video as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month.
