Contabo says its VPS plans have no default bandwidth cap, and its India Cloud VDS listings advertise unlimited traffic. Neither statement guarantees unrestricted full-speed use: Contabo’s fair-use policy allows it to throttle exceptionally high or disruptive traffic. For a continuous stream, estimate transfer from the outgoing bitrate, then check the exact India plan and its current terms before ordering.
Does Contabo VPS have a bandwidth limit?
Contabo’s support documentation says there is “no default bandwidth limit” on its VPS, VDS and dedicated servers, with its fair-use policy applying instead. The policy says traffic should be consistent with typical server workloads; Contabo reserves discretion to throttle exceptionally high or disruptive use. It says it will notify customers by email if usage exceeds the policy and work with them on a solution.
Contabo’s current VPS plan documentation labels Core VPS, Performance VPS and Storage VPS traffic “Unlimited*.” The asterisk refers to the same fair-use qualification: there is no default fixed traffic cap, but exceptionally high or disruptive usage may be throttled. Treat “unlimited” as no stated standard quota, not a promise of uninterrupted maximum port speed under every sustained workload.
What do Contabo’s India plans include?
Contabo lists India as a server location. Its India plan page advertises unlimited traffic for Cloud VDS plans, subject to the fair-use policy. Availability, plan names, prices and specifications can change, so verify the exact India SKU, location and checkout terms when ordering. Do not assume that a plan advertised for another location has the same availability or terms in India.

How much data does a 24/7 stream use?
For a continuous stream sent from a VPS to YouTube, a useful decimal estimate is:
Monthly transfer in GB ≈ steady outgoing bitrate in Mbps × 324

The calculation assumes 30 uninterrupted days and converts bits to decimal gigabytes. It is an estimate, not a Contabo or YouTube usage figure; protocol overhead, reconnects, other server traffic and bitrate variation affect the actual total.

Does the VPS send data to every viewer?
It depends on how the stream is delivered. If the VPS encodes or relays one outgoing feed to YouTube’s ingest endpoint, its stream egress is approximately the feed bitrate. People watching the YouTube-hosted live stream receive it through YouTube’s distribution infrastructure, not as a separate copy from the VPS, provided the VPS is not also acting as a viewer-facing relay.

If your server separately serves the video to viewers, outgoing traffic can grow with audience size and delivery design. Calculate that workload separately rather than treating it as a single feed to YouTube.
What do the listed port speeds tell you?
Contabo’s published VPS tables list port speeds that vary by product and model: Core VPS ranges from 200 Mbps to 1,000 Mbps, Performance VPS from 500 Mbps to 1,000 Mbps, and Storage VPS from 200 Mbps to 1,000 Mbps. Its support documentation describes VPS and VDS port speeds across a broader 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps range, depending on product.

These are port specifications, not recommended streaming bitrates or measurements of sustained throughput. A higher port-speed figure alone does not establish that a specific India plan will maintain a particular speed continuously. Compare the plan’s written transfer policy and port specification with your actual workload, and account for CPU, RAM and total cost as well. Contabo positions Core VPS for standard workloads and Max Performance VPS, formerly VDS, for high-traffic applications and sustained high bandwidth; that is the provider’s guidance, not independent streaming test data.
How to check whether an India plan fits
- Set the stream’s outgoing bitrate. Use the bitrate of the feed leaving the VPS for YouTube, not a viewer’s playback quality.
- Estimate 30-day egress. Multiply that steady bitrate in Mbps by 324. Add a margin for overhead, reconnects and any unrelated server traffic.
- Identify the delivery path. Count one feed to YouTube if the VPS only sends the ingest feed; separately estimate viewer traffic if the VPS also relays video directly to viewers.
- Check the India SKU at checkout. Confirm the location, current port specification, traffic wording and applicable fair-use terms for the exact plan you intend to buy.
- Size the server as well as the connection. Compare required CPU and RAM alongside transfer policy and port speed; a port figure does not prove the machine can handle your encoding or relay workload.

Common planning mistakes
- Reading “unlimited” as a guarantee. The plan wording is qualified by fair use and Contabo’s stated ability to throttle exceptionally high or disruptive use.
- Using port speed as a transfer allowance. Port speed is a connection specification, not a monthly quota or proof of sustained throughput.
- Counting YouTube viewers as separate VPS copies. That overstates egress when the VPS sends one feed to YouTube and YouTube distributes the hosted stream.
- Ignoring a separate relay. If viewers connect to the VPS itself, their traffic can substantially change the transfer profile.
- Assuming all India plans match global listings. Verify location-specific availability and terms for the exact SKU at order time.
