Schedule the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, set its start time in Indian Standard Time (IST), and choose that time by testing your own audience—not by assuming there is one best work or commute hour for all of India. YouTube lets viewers find an upcoming stream, opt in to reminders and share its watch page before it begins. Scheduling the event does not, by itself, keep a playlist streaming unattended around the clock.
Choose an IST start time from your audience, not a national rule
First decide what the stream is for: morning preparation, listening during a commute, background content during the workday, or evening viewing. Treat those as audience hypotheses. There is no reliable India-wide figure here establishing a single best start time for work or commuting, and no one schedule will fit every channel or viewer.
Use the channel’s own audience response to compare candidate start times. Keep the content, promotion and stream length as similar as practical, and allow a consistent observation period. Otherwise, a change in views or engagement could reflect the topic, title, promotion or duration rather than the start time. Present each time as a test, not a proven peak.
Publish and promote the time as IST (UTC+5:30). Keep it consistent in the event title and description, community posts and any external announcements so viewers do not have to reconcile conflicting times.

Check that the channel can go live
Before announcing the event, confirm live access for the channel. YouTube’s eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, must have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions and eligibility guidance; access can be affected by channel status.
Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go live.
- In the Live Control Room, open Manage and choose Schedule stream.
- Reuse settings from a previous stream if appropriate, or create a new event. Set the date and start time, using IST consistently in the event details and your promotion.
- Save the scheduled event. Share its watch-page URL in advance; viewers can find the upcoming event and select Notify me if they want a reminder.
YouTube describes scheduling as a way to promote a stream. It gives viewers an upcoming event to find and share, but scheduling an event is different from configuring an encoder or service to run a continuous playlist.

Connect an encoder and start the stream
- In the Live Control Room, open the scheduled stream’s settings and get the YouTube stream URL and stream key.
- In your encoder, enter the server URL and stream key, then configure the source or playlist you intend to broadcast.
- Keep the stream key private: it is a credential that allows an encoder to send a feed to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Start sending the feed and wait for the Live Control Room preview to appear. Check that the expected video and audio are present.
- When the preview is ready and the event is due to begin, select Go live in the Live Control Room.
YouTube’s encoder list includes options for different workflows, including OBS Studio and cloud-based services. The listing says those encoders are not made by YouTube; inclusion is not an endorsement or confirmation of current availability in every region. Plan for the difference between a scheduled event and a 24/7 stream
A scheduled event has a planned start. A genuinely continuous 24/7 broadcast also needs an encoder or cloud service that keeps sending the feed, plus a plan for monitoring and recovery. YouTube’s scheduling guidance does not guarantee unattended operation. Before relying on a continuous stream, test what happens if the encoder disconnects or the feed stops, and decide who or what will detect and resolve it.

There is also an archive and rewind trade-off. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24/7 broadcast is longer than that; YouTube warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams. Do not promise viewers a full-day rewind or assume one uninterrupted broadcast will become a set of short archived segments. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving and DVR guidance.

Common scheduling and playback problems
- The channel cannot start a live stream: Check verification, channel restrictions and the age requirement before promoting an event.
- The scheduled event has no incoming preview: Confirm the encoder is sending to the correct YouTube stream URL and that the matching stream key is entered. Check that the encoder has started sending before trying to go live.
- The preview appears, but the event is not live: The encoder feed and scheduled event are separate steps. In the Live Control Room, check the preview and select Go live when ready.
- Viewers miss the start time: Check that the event page and every promotion use the same IST start time, and share the watch-page URL early so viewers can opt in to reminders.
- The stream stops while unattended: Scheduling alone does not restart an encoder. Test reconnect behavior and monitoring in advance, and make sure someone or a service can respond to a failure.
- Viewers cannot rewind far back: A 24/7 stream exceeds YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic-archive guidance, and DVR rewind on very long streams may be limited or unavailable. Avoid promising a full-day rewind.
