Plan 24/7 preschool programming as a sequence of monitored livestream blocks—not one day-long broadcast. Schedule separate events in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, connect an encoder, and keep each event under 12 hours if you want YouTube to be able to archive it. YouTube does not promise uninterrupted looping or seamless handoffs between scheduled streams, so plan for checks and backups at every transition.
Plan the day in manageable blocks
A practical starting point is four roughly six-hour blocks, with a short operator check between them. This is a planning example, not a tested configuration or a YouTube guarantee. Use the channel’s main audience time zone and state it clearly wherever viewers see the schedule.

For each block, choose a distinct sequence and a repeat point that does not interrupt a story. A 24-hour calendar made of four six-hour events leaves time for handoffs, but it does not itself guarantee that the channel stays live continuously. If nobody can supervise a transition, describe the schedule as planned programming with monitoring rather than promising uninterrupted service.
Prepare the content and clear its rights
Before scheduling, inventory every song, story, recording, image, and animation. For each item, record who owns it, where it may be used, whether the permission covers live streaming and archived playback, and any end date or attribution requirement. YouTube’s livestream terms require you to hold the necessary rights for live and archived content, including music rights: Livestream terms and conditions.

A familiar or old song is not automatically cleared for your use: a particular recording or arrangement may have separate rights. Confirm permissions with the rights holders, or consult a qualified adviser if the scope is uncertain. A generic “royalty-free” label alone does not establish that a license covers your planned stream, archive, territories, or duration.
Schedule each event in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, go to Create → Go live, then use Manage → Schedule Stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow and live-stream settings are described in its encoder setup guide and live stream settings guide.
- Set up the event. Enter the title, description, start time, and other event details. Reusing settings can save time, but check the metadata and audience choice for every event rather than assuming the previous block’s settings are right.
- Connect your encoder. Use the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Set the audience accurately. Preschool songs and stories are strong indicators that content is made for kids. Set the audience for each livestream to match its content; YouTube’s guidance explains the factors creators should consider in Determining if your content is “made for kids” and its audience-setting instructions.
- Keep the event below 12 hours when you need a YouTube archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. The threshold is not a guarantee of successful archiving. See Archive live streams.
Preflight, monitor, and hand off

- Preview the event and confirm the correct scheduled stream is selected in the encoder.
- Open the watch page and test playback on a phone as well as the production monitor.
- Listen for clean audio and watch for a frozen picture, black frames, or unintended gaps.
- Start a local recording if you need a backup archive, and verify that the file is actually growing.
- Monitor the stream during the block and at the transition. Have a prepared backup or a clear restart procedure if the feed fails.
- After the event, inspect the archive before telling viewers it is available. Correct its visibility if needed, then confirm the next scheduled event and encoder are ready.
Separate scheduled events and an encoder workflow are supported by YouTube’s guidance; that guidance does not establish a guaranteed all-day playlist loop or seamless transition from one event to the next. Plan for an operator to verify each handoff.
Account for made-for-kids restrictions
YouTube requires creators to identify content made for kids, and children’s songs and stories are among the factors it says to consider. Live Control Room lets creators set the audience for a livestream. For made-for-kids live content, live chat and personalized ads are disabled; other features may also be restricted. A made-for-kids designation does not automatically place a video in the YouTube Kids app. YouTube Kids has separate eligibility and review systems; its Preschool content setting is designed for children aged four and under. Consult Content policies for YouTube Kids and Understand your choices as a family.
Choose an operating approach without overpromising
Compare approaches against the work the schedule actually requires, rather than assuming a tool will make handoffs or archives reliable by itself.

- Block length and archive: Events under 12 hours are more compatible with YouTube’s automatic archiving guidance; longer streams may not be captured.
- Supervision and recovery: Decide who will notice poor audio or video, handle a failed transition, and restart or switch to a prepared backup.
- Rights scope: Confirm live and archived use, territories, and license duration for each asset.
- Audience setting: Verify the made-for-kids choice for each event and account for its feature restrictions.
- Cost and complexity: An encoder-based workflow requires preparation and monitoring. Compare software and hardware options on their own merits; no particular encoder or hardware choice is established here.
