First find out where the repeat happens: in a viewer’s YouTube player, or in the video being sent out by the broadcaster. Turn off YouTube’s Loop control for viewer-only repetition. If the repeated clip is in the live broadcast itself, change the setting on the OBS source that plays it: use a Media Source for one file or a VLC Video Source for a playlist.
Identify which layer is repeating
Ask whether the repeated item appears only for one viewer, or whether it is also present in the live output. YouTube’s Loop/Repeat controls affect playback for the person watching; OBS source settings determine which local media files the broadcast plays. Changing one does not fix the other. YouTube Help explains how to loop videos or playlists, while OBS documents its media-source controls.
| What you see | Where to look | Likely control |
|---|---|---|
| Only one viewer keeps seeing the same video or playlist item | YouTube player | Loop/Repeat playback control |
| The same clip is repeated in the actual live output | OBS scene sending the stream | Media Source Loop, or VLC Video Source playlist settings |
Turn off repeat in a YouTube viewer
If the stream itself is playing normally for other viewers and the repetition occurs only in your player, turn off the player’s Loop/Repeat setting. YouTube’s help instructions cover looping a video or playlist on a computer. This setting changes your playback, not the live broadcast being sent by OBS.
Stop OBS from repeating the same item
For one local video file
- In OBS, select the scene that is sending the video to the live stream.
- In Sources, select the relevant Media Source and open its properties.
- Check the Loop property. Turn it off if you do not want that individual file to restart after it finishes.
A Media Source is intended for an individual file. If you need OBS to play multiple local files as a list, use a VLC Video Source instead.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a playlist of local files
- In the active OBS scene, select the VLC Video Source and open its properties.
- Confirm that the intended files are present in the playlist. If an item is missing, add the correct file before going live.
- Check Loop Playlist. This controls whether the source starts over after it runs out of media files. Turn it off if the list should stop at the end.
- Check Shuffle Playlist. Turn it off to play files in list order rather than randomizing them.
- If the source behaves differently after you switch scenes, inspect Visibility Behaviour. OBS says the default is “Stop when not visible, restart when visible”; choose and test the behavior you need before relying on it during a broadcast.
The VLC Video Source requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, OBS says you need 64-bit VLC for the source to appear. The OBS Media Sources guide describes these properties and requirements.
If the playlist restarts after an edit
Make playlist changes before going live when possible, then test the full sequence. An OBS forum user reported that adding a file to a VLC playlist during a running stream restarted playback at the first video; that is one user’s report, not confirmation that every live playlist edit causes a restart. Read the OBS forum post.

Embedded YouTube players are a separate case
If the repeated content is in a website’s embedded player rather than in OBS or the standard YouTube player, check the embed parameters. Google documents loop=1 for repeating a playlist after it reaches the first video. For a single embedded video, its instructions say to add the same video ID to the playlist parameter as the ID in the URL path, along with loop=1. These settings affect the embedded player, not OBS’s broadcast source. See YouTube Embedded Players and Player Parameters.
