First find out whether YouTube ended the live event or the playlist source stopped while the encoder stayed connected. Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health and your encoder’s preview or logs at the same time. Then follow the branch that matches what stopped: fix playlist looping for a playback problem; investigate encoder, connection, stream-key, or copyright issues for a dropped YouTube feed.
Identify what actually stopped
“Disconnecting” can describe different failures. At the next occurrence, note the time and check the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room together.
- The video stopped or restarted, but the encoder remained connected: inspect the playlist source, its files, and loop settings.
- YouTube ended the event or stream health reports an ingestion error: investigate the encoder output and outbound connection.
- The encoder says it cannot start: verify the server URL and current stream key.
- Studio or Live Control Room shows a copyright notice or restriction: address the rights or channel issue; changing bitrate or cables will not resolve it.
If several viewers report the same interruption at once, investigate the encoder and YouTube ingest path rather than treating it as an individual viewer’s playback problem.
Fix OBS playlist playback
These steps apply when “playlist” means local video files loaded into OBS. OBS documents a VLC Video source for multiple files and a separate Media Source for a single file. The VLC Video source appears only when VLC is installed. See OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For multiple local files
- Open OBS and select the scene used for the live stream.
- In the Sources panel, select the VLC Video source that contains the playlist. If there is no such source, add a VLC Video source and choose the intended files.
- Check that the files are present, playable, and in the intended order. Confirm that the source is visible and active in the scene.
- Enable Loop Playlist if playback should restart from the beginning after the final file.
- Test the playlist through its final item and watch the transition back to the first. Check that hiding or showing the source does not trigger an unwanted stop or restart.
For one local file
- Select the file’s Media Source in the active scene.
- Enable its Loop option if the video should repeat after it ends.
- Test the end of the file and confirm the source continues playing as intended.
A playback loop only controls whether the media repeats. It does not keep a crashed encoder running or repair a failed connection to YouTube.
Check encoder output and connection
If the source is playing but the live feed is unstable, separate an encoder problem from an outbound connection problem. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder software and output, then investigating the internet connection if the encoder’s picture and sound look healthy.

- Update the encoder to its current release and inspect its error messages and CPU load around the time of the drop.
- Check audio and video routing. If a local recording or archive is available, review it to see whether the problem is already present in the encoded output.
- In Live Control Room, read the stream-health messages. Test the outbound upload connection if YouTube reports ingestion trouble or the encoder preview remains healthy while the event drops.
- Compare the encoder’s actual codec, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, and bitrate with YouTube’s current live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolution recommendations for that configuration.
- Choose a quality and bitrate that the available connection can sustain. Increasing bitrate without checking upload capacity can make delivery less reliable.
YouTube also recommends testing before the event, starting the encoder early enough to check the preview, and monitoring audio, video, and stream health while live. Its live streaming tips explain that preparation.
Use Ethernet as a comparison, not a promised fix
If the outbound connection appears unstable, compare Wi-Fi with wired Ethernet at the same encoder settings, where practical. A cable may help identify a Wi-Fi stability problem, but it cannot fix a playlist that is not looping, an encoder crash, a wrong key, or a copyright interruption.

Verify the YouTube stream URL and key
If the encoder reports that it cannot start, check the server URL and stream key in Live Control Room. Follow YouTube’s troubleshooting steps to copy the current key into the encoder. YouTube also documents how to reset a key in Manage live stream settings; after resetting it, update the encoder with the new key. Keep the key private. Resetting it is a configuration recovery step, not a fix for a playlist that simply reached its last file.
Check copyright notices and channel restrictions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including other live broadcasts. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder; if the content remains, the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated. Check Live Control Room and YouTube Studio for copyright warnings, matches, strikes, or live-stream restrictions, and review the rights for each item in the playlist. YouTube explains the process in Copyright issues with live streams.

If you have permission to use licensed material, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted. Resolve the rights or account issue with the appropriate rights owner or YouTube process rather than trying to evade a restriction by moving the stream to another channel.

The OBS steps above apply to files loaded into an OBS VLC Video or Media Source. If you mean a YouTube-hosted playlist, another encoder, or a playlist relayed from a separate service, its playback and reconnect controls may differ. Use that encoder or service’s current documentation, while still checking YouTube’s stream health and any Studio notices to determine whether the problem is at the source, encoder, connection, or account level.
