To rotate artwork while a 24/7 YouTube music stream continues, add an Image Slide Show source in OBS Studio, set it to change images automatically, and enable looping. YouTube receives OBS’s finished video and audio; the artwork rotation is configured in OBS, not YouTube Studio.

Set up an automatic image slideshow in OBS

  1. Prepare your artwork. Put the images you want to use in one directory, or plan to add them individually. OBS’s Image Slide Show source supports BMP, TGA, PNG, JPEG, JPG, and GIF files. Use images you have permission to display.
  2. Add the slideshow source. In your OBS scene, go to the Sources dock, click the + button, and select Image Slide Show. Add the image files or directory to the source.
  3. Choose automatic rotation. Set Slide Mode to automatic. Set Time Between Slides to the interval you want, then choose a transition and transition speed. The interval is how long an image is shown before the next transition begins.
  4. Set the order and looping. Leave Loop on to restart the slideshow after its last image. By default, Randomize Playback is off, so images appear in file-list order. Turn it on if you prefer a shuffled sequence.
  5. Position and size the artwork. Check the OBS preview and resize or reposition the source to fit your scene. OBS’s Sources Guide documents a fit-to-screen command if you want the image to fill the canvas.
  6. Test the complete stream before the long run. Start a test using audio and video movement similar to the planned broadcast. Check the outgoing picture, audio, and YouTube stream health before relying on the setup unattended.

OBS documents defaults of 8,000 milliseconds between slides, a 700-millisecond transition speed, Fade, Loop on, and Randomize Playback off. These are starting interface values, not ideal timings for every station. Transition speed is not extra time added to the interval: the transition starts before the next image is fully visible. Choose an interval that suits how frequently you want listeners to see new artwork.

Choose between one image and rotating artwork

OBS source Use it when What to expect
Image You want one fixed piece of artwork. A single image stays on screen; it does not rotate automatically.
Image Slide Show You want artwork to change on a timer. Add multiple images or a directory, then configure automatic timing, transitions, looping, and optional random order.

Both choices are OBS scene sources. The slideshow source is the built-in option for automatic rotation; a plugin or physical rotation device is not required for this method.

Check YouTube’s outgoing stream settings

The slideshow controls affect the picture OBS sends, but they do not replace encoder configuration. YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends RTMPS and lists RTMP/RTMPS as protocols, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed 4 seconds. For H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, YouTube’s guidance lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended; these are configuration recommendations verified in 2026, not guarantees of quality or continuity. See YouTube’s current live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions before configuring a future stream because guidance can change.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

YouTube advises testing before starting a live stream, using audio and video movement similar to the planned broadcast, and monitoring stream health during the event. OBS handles the slideshow; YouTube’s Live Control Room helps identify delivery problems. A stream-health warning or missing audio/video is not necessarily caused by the artwork source. Check the Live Control Room readout and the encoder output rather than changing slideshow timing blindly.

Troubleshoot artwork that does not rotate

  • The same image remains on screen: Confirm that the source is Image Slide Show, not a standard Image source, and that multiple images have been added. Check that Slide Mode is automatic.
  • The slideshow stops at the last image: Check that Loop is enabled.
  • Images appear in an unexpected order: With Randomize Playback off, OBS follows the file-list order. Review that list, or enable Randomize Playback for a shuffled rotation.
  • The image is cropped, too small, or misplaced: Adjust its size and position in the OBS scene preview, or use the documented fit-to-screen command in the Sources Guide.
  • Artwork changes, but YouTube playback is unstable: Check YouTube’s stream-health information and confirm that the encoder is delivering the expected audio and video. Test with representative motion and audio before restarting a long broadcast.

Keep the stream running from your computer—or the cloud

A standard OBS setup runs on your own computer, so that computer and its internet connection must remain available for the encoder feed. A VPS running FFmpeg is another possible unattended infrastructure approach, but it is optional for artwork rotation and does not guarantee uninterrupted service. This guide’s slideshow steps do not require moving the encoder to a VPS.

Music and artwork rights still matter

OBS rotating an image does not give you permission to use it, and streaming through an encoder does not clear music rights. Make sure you have the necessary rights for both the audio and each displayed image. A 24/7 configuration also cannot guarantee that a YouTube broadcast will remain online without interruption.
