You can run multiple continuous music streams from one PC, but there is no reliable universal number of streams a computer can handle. The practical limit depends on how many independent feeds you encode, your PC’s sustained encoding capacity, YouTube’s simultaneous-stream limits, and your upload bandwidth. First confirm you have rights to use the music in livestreams; then test the complete setup at the quality and stream count you plan to run.
Decide whether you need separate stations or duplicate broadcasts
A separate station needs its own outgoing program: its own music, playlist, or other content. That generally means a distinct output and stream configuration for each station. Sending one incoming feed to multiple YouTube broadcasts instead shows the same program on each watch page; it does not create stations with different programming.
Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API documents both patterns: separate live streams for simultaneous shows with different content or settings, and binding one live stream to multiple broadcasts when the same feed should appear on more than one watch page. Check YouTube’s limits and enable live streaming
YouTube Help currently states a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key. Both limits apply at once, so the lower applicable limit governs your setup. These are YouTube platform limits, not a guarantee that one PC can encode that many outputs. Check YouTube’s live streaming requirements before configuring your channel; first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours.

- Confirm eligibility: Sign in to the channel you plan to use and make sure live streaming is enabled and the channel has no current live-stream restriction.
- Plan the stream keys: Keep within YouTube’s active-stream and per-key limits. Use a distinct outgoing feed and appropriate stream configuration for each genuinely different station.
- Keep keys private: Treat each stream key like a password. Enter it only in the encoder or service you intend to use, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
Choose an encoder and test the PC’s capacity
OBS Studio is one possible software encoder, but neither OBS nor YouTube establishes a universal PC specification or stream count for continuous multi-output streaming. The workload varies with the number of independently encoded feeds, codec, hardware-encoder support, resolution, frame rate, visual complexity, and other applications running on the PC. OBS notes that compatible hardware does not guarantee that it can stream or record reliably.
- Install an encoder that supports the number of outputs you need. In OBS, use Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, not proof that the final setup will hold.
- Set up each station as a separate output if its programming differs. Verify how your chosen encoder handles separate scenes, audio, stream keys, and simultaneous outputs; do not assume that a setting or scene automatically creates an independent broadcast.
- Run a representative test with every planned output active. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream health, and watch the encoder’s CPU/GPU load, encoding lag, and dropped frames.
- Test long enough to expose heat, memory, or stability problems that a brief test may miss. A configuration that works for one output or a short session may not hold for several continuous feeds.
OBS’s system requirements page explicitly cautions that compatible hardware alone does not establish streaming capability. Its requirements page is dated 2021, so consult current OBS release information for supported operating systems rather than relying on that page for current OS compatibility.

Set video, keyframes, and upload bandwidth
For H.264, YouTube’s current encoder recommendations include 10 Mbps video at 1080p/30 fps, 14 Mbps at 1080p/60 fps, 6 Mbps at 720p/30 fps, and 8 Mbps at 720p/60 fps. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. These are reference settings, not a requirement to use a high-motion video profile for a static radio visual. Choose a supported output that fits the visual and verify it in the Live Control Room. See YouTube’s encoder settings and live-streaming guidance.
- Choose the resolution and frame rate for each feed; a static visual may not need a high frame rate.
- Use CBR and set keyframes every two seconds, staying within YouTube’s maximum interval of four seconds.
- Add the configured bitrates for all simultaneous outgoing feeds to estimate their upload demand. Include audio and other network use when planning.
- Leave at least 20% upload headroom above the total bitrate, as YouTube recommends, and confirm the connection can sustain the combined load.
For example, three feeds configured at 6 Mbps video each require 18 Mbps of video bitrate before audio or other traffic. Applying 20% headroom gives a planning figure of 21.6 Mbps before those additional demands. This is arithmetic from YouTube’s cited bitrate and headroom guidance, not a separate YouTube-published statistic. YouTube’s network guidance recommends reliable connectivity, testing, and monitoring; Wi-Fi fluctuations or other household traffic can undermine a setup that looks adequate on paper.

Clear music rights before going live
Confirm that your rights cover livestream use of the specific recordings and compositions, as well as the territories where viewers may watch. Owning a recording or having access to a music subscription does not by itself establish livestream permission. YouTube for Artists advises music channels planning to use copyright-protected music in a livestream to coordinate with their label or distributor to avoid problems such as copyright strikes. Its guidance is at YouTube for Artists.
Licensing depends on the catalog, rights holders, territories, and intended use; no general setup can establish that a particular playlist is cleared. Get confirmation from the relevant rights holders or your distributor before scheduling a continuous broadcast.

Plan for outages and recordings
A local-PC setup depends on the PC, power, encoder, and internet connection staying available. Test your recovery procedure for a power loss, a dropped connection, or an encoder crash, and check each broadcast’s health after reconnecting. A UPS can keep local equipment powered through a short interruption, but it will not fix an ISP, encoder, or YouTube outage. Choose its capacity based on the actual equipment load and the runtime you need; no single capacity suits every setup.
Do not assume YouTube will preserve a complete archive of a continuous 24/7 broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours should not be relied on for a complete archive. If you need a full recording, plan and test a separate local recording or archive workflow, including enough storage for the intended duration. Troubleshoot common failures
