You can run an always-on YouTube stream over BSNL broadband with FFmpeg if the connection’s sustained upload speed—not just its advertised plan speed—can reliably carry your chosen bitrate. Measure the line at the streaming location, account for your BSNL circle’s data policy and post-FUP speed, configure FFmpeg for YouTube’s current ingest requirements, and test how the whole setup behaves when something fails. No available source guarantees uninterrupted streaming on a particular BSNL line.
Check whether your BSNL connection can sustain the stream
Start by testing upload performance on the same connection and at the location where the stream will run. YouTube says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate,” in its encoder settings and bitrate guidance. A speed-test peak is not proof that your line will sustain an upload around the clock: test at the times you expect to stream and watch for variation, interruptions, and competing use of the connection.
Test the full path with representative motion and sound, then check that YouTube receives the stream and reports healthy status. Choose a bitrate comfortably below the upload capacity you can sustain; if performance varies, lower the bitrate or resolution rather than aiming at the edge of a favorable test result. Leave room for audio and normal network variation.
Check your BSNL plan’s data policy
Confirm the current terms for your own BSNL circle, including the FUP threshold and the speed after it applies. Continuous streaming can use substantial data. As Chennai-specific examples, a BSNL Chennai Telephones plan sheet updated 2025-10-01 lists Fibre Neo at up to 50 Mbps until 3300 GB FUP, then 4 Mbps, and Fibre Basic Plus at up to 100 Mbps until 4000 GB FUP, then 4 Mbps. These are time-sensitive Chennai examples, not nationwide offers or evidence of your line’s actual performance. Verify current local terms with BSNL before choosing a plan.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose YouTube-compatible encoder settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. For H.264, YouTube recommends 5 Mbps video bitrate for 720p at 30 fps and 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that a given BSNL connection can sustain them.
Use YouTube’s bitrate table for other resolutions and frame rates, and select settings that fit your measured, sustained upload with headroom. Lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if the connection cannot reliably carry the selected settings. The YouTube guide is the authoritative place to check for current recommendations as they change.

Set up FFmpeg to send a stream to YouTube
There is no single safe command for every setup: the input may be a video file, camera, capture device, or generated source, and FFmpeg’s available codecs and options depend on the installed build. The following sequence covers the parts you must configure without pretending that one untested command fits all inputs.
- Get the YouTube ingest details. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and retrieve its ingest address and stream key. YouTube recommends RTMPS for ordinary live content; its RTMPS ingestion documentation specifies an RTMPS endpoint, application path, and port 443. The Live Streaming API liveStreams resource also describes the ingestion address and stream-name details.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it as a password: do not publish it in screenshots, public scripts, logs, or examples. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s stream controls before continuing.
- Configure FFmpeg for your actual input. Select an encoder and codec supported by your FFmpeg build and compatible with YouTube’s guidance. Set the chosen resolution and frame rate, CBR video bitrate, a two-second keyframe interval (never over four seconds), and suitable audio settings. Match the bitrate to sustained upload capacity, not the advertised download speed.
- Use the RTMPS destination and key in FFmpeg. Assemble the destination using the ingest address, application path, and private stream key supplied by YouTube. Confirm the syntax against the documentation for your installed FFmpeg build; its protocol documentation covers protocol options, which can vary by build and version.
- Verify before relying on it. Run a representative test with the actual source and sound. Confirm YouTube receives the feed and reports healthy stream status, and monitor the upload over time. Test foreseeable losses of network, source, machine, and power, and decide how you will restore the stream in each case.
Plan for outages and common failures
FFmpeg and a broadband connection do not by themselves guarantee a continuous broadcast. The available evidence does not establish BSNL line uptime or a universal reconnection method. Test recovery using your installed FFmpeg build and the equipment and source you actually plan to use.

- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check the ingest address, application path, port, stream key, and whether the stream is active in Live Control Room. Keep the key private and replace it if it may have been exposed.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or upload interruptions: Compare the live performance with your selected bitrate. Reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate to restore headroom, then test again with representative motion and audio.
- The stream degrades after heavy data use: Check whether your plan’s FUP has applied and what post-FUP speed your circle provides. Confirm the current terms with BSNL; do not assume Chennai plan figures apply elsewhere.
- The stream stops after a network, source, computer, or power failure: Identify which part failed and test your recovery procedure. The sources do not establish a guaranteed BSNL repair time or a single FFmpeg option that will recover every failure.
- A line fault needs provider support: BSNL lists 1800-4444 for Bharat Fibre, broadband, and landline support. The listing does not promise a repair time or a dedicated always-on-stream support service.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer and BSNL connection to be responsible for keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; it is one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
