If you already own a capable PC and can keep it powered, connected and monitored, OBS is usually the lower-cost way to run a pre-recorded YouTube stream. Gyre moves the continuous stream to the cloud, avoiding a dedicated PC running at home but adding a subscription and upload-to-storage workflow. If you would need to buy a PC just for streaming, compare its full ownership and electricity costs with Gyre’s current plan limits and charges before deciding. Neither option has a documented guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation.

These are routes for continuous video playback, not equivalent production tools: OBS can create scenes and other PC-controlled output, while Gyre’s described workflow is based on pre-recorded video files stored in its service.
When OBS makes more sense
Choose OBS if you already have a machine that can encode your intended output, your upload connection and power are dependable enough for a continuous broadcast, and you are willing to watch stream health and restart after failures. OBS itself warns that meeting basic system requirements does not guarantee streaming capability; its needs vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Its system requirements page is dated August 25, 2021, so check the current documentation for supported operating systems.
Do not buy by CPU label alone
For a new low-cost build, a mini PC with Intel Quick Sync or a refurbished desktop with compatible integrated graphics may be categories to investigate, not validated recommendations. Check the specific processor and encoder generation, cooling for sustained load, network interface and ports. Test the exact stream profile for an extended period before relying on it. OBS lists NVIDIA NVENC, AMD AMF and Intel Quick Sync Video among its hardware encoder options. OBS generally recommends hardware encoding to move work away from the CPU, though earlier encoder generations may deliver lower image quality at the same bitrate.

OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help find settings for the machine, but a successful initial configuration is not proof of reliable continuous operation.
When Gyre makes more sense
Gyre is the better fit when avoiding a continuously running home PC matters more than avoiding a subscription, and your content consists of videos you can upload to its storage. It does not remove the need for internet access when uploading files, setting up or managing the stream. Confirm current file limits, storage, stream count, resolution and billing before paying.

Gyre’s help material says files must be uploaded to Gyre storage. Use its current instructions or converter and verify the resulting ingest settings in YouTube Live Control Room; YouTube’s current encoder guidance is the stronger reference for YouTube requirements.

Set up an OBS stream that YouTube can ingest
For a pre-recorded loop, add the video as a source in OBS and configure the output for YouTube’s ingest recommendations. Exact OBS menu wording can vary by version and operating system; use the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then confirm output and stream health in YouTube Studio.
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s livestream eligibility guidance says a verified channel must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guide. Enable live streaming in advance rather than on the day of launch.
- Create the broadcast and obtain a stream key. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, and use the stream key shown for that broadcast. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send video to your channel. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube (RTMPS where available), and enter or connect the key. Do not share screenshots or recordings that expose it.
- Add the video source. In the OBS scene, add a Media Source and select the pre-recorded file. Configure looping if the file should repeat, and check that audio and video play as expected. If building multiple scenes or sources, remember that greater scene complexity can increase system load.
- Set a supported output profile. YouTube recommends H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. Choose a resolution and frame rate the PC can sustain, not merely the highest option it can select.
- Use YouTube’s bitrate figures as a baseline. For H.264, YouTube lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended at 720p30; at 1080p30 it lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. These figures are for the stated codec, resolution and frame rate; other combinations have different requirements. YouTube automatically transcodes incoming streams for different viewer devices and network conditions.
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends 20% upload bandwidth headroom. For example, a 14 Mbps stream should not be run on a connection whose measured sustained upload is only 14 Mbps. A disruption in connectivity can break a stream. Test at the intended bitrate and retain margin for normal household network variation.
- Start and verify. Start streaming from OBS and check the Live Control Room’s stream health and preview. Do a sustained test at the intended resolution and frame rate, including the video loop and audio, before treating the setup as ready for continuous use.
Compare the real cost in India
An existing PC can make OBS inexpensive to start, but its ongoing electricity draw and the value of maintaining it still matter. A new PC adds purchase cost. Gyre substitutes a recurring service charge and storage constraints for that local operating burden. No India-wide electricity tariff, tested PC wattage, or representative internet price is established here, so a generic monthly rupee figure would be misleading.

For a local machine, calculate electricity from its measured average draw: average watts ÷ 1,000 × 24 × 30 × your local electricity rate per kWh. Add internet cost only if streaming creates an incremental charge, include backup power if applicable, and amortize the PC purchase over the period you expect to use it. Compare that total with Gyre’s current plan, applicable taxes and currency conversion, and whether its storage and stream limits fit. A UPS can help with short power interruptions if sized for the measured computer-and-router load and desired runtime; it cannot fix an ISP outage.

A local OBS stream depends on several links: the computer must keep running, the encoder must remain stable, the power supply must hold, the home connection must sustain upload, and YouTube must accept the ingest. A UPS addresses only some power interruptions. Gyre removes the need for a dedicated PC to remain on at home, but neither the cited official sources nor Gyre’s page establishes guaranteed continuous uptime for a specific setup. Test, monitor stream health and have a recovery plan.

- PC shuts down or OBS stops: check thermals, sustained load, power settings and system sleep behavior; review OBS logs and test hardware encoding or a lower output profile.
- Stream health reports unstable bitrate: compare measured sustained upload against stream bitrate plus headroom; reduce bitrate or resolution, pause competing uploads and test over a wired connection if available.
- YouTube does not receive a signal: verify the correct stream key, ingest selection and RTMPS configuration; regenerate a compromised key in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- First live stream cannot be started: verify channel eligibility and allow for YouTube’s stated activation time, which may be up to 24 hours on first setup.
- Loop has no audio or stops at the end: check the Media Source audio routing and loop setting in OBS, then observe a full cycle in the preview before leaving the stream unattended.
- Power or internet fails: a UPS may bridge a short local power interruption if correctly sized, but it will not restore an ISP connection. YouTube notes that a connectivity disruption can mean a broken stream; plan how to restart the broadcast and confirm recovery.
Copyright and YouTube channel rules still apply
Streaming a recording rather than a camera feed does not change the need to have rights to the video and audio. Use content you created or are licensed to stream, and check the applicable music and video rights before setting up a continuous loop. A live stream may be interrupted or restricted if it triggers a rights or policy issue. Repeated or reused material can also affect monetization decisions; no particular approval or monetization outcome is guaranteed by using OBS or Gyre. Review the current YouTube rules in Studio and use the channel’s copyright checks where available.
