Best Free Software for Looping Recorded Lessons in a 24/7 YouTube Stream

OBS Studio is a strong free local encoder for YouTube Live lesson streams, but a 24/7 broadcast still depends on a running computer and connection. Here are the key checks and a cloud option.

OBS Studio is the strongest free-software starting point for looping recorded lessons into a YouTube Live stream. It is free and open source, with no watermark or usage limitations, and it can be used commercially. YouTube supports software encoders for computer-based streaming. The software costs nothing, but a local 24/7 broadcast still depends on a computer and internet connection that stay running.

What “free” covers—and what it does not

OBS Studio is free to use under the OBS Project’s stated terms: it is open source under GPLv2, has no watermark or usage limitations, and permits commercial use. See the OBS Project Help Portal. YouTube supports software encoding programs as a way to send a stream from a computer; its computer-streaming guidance recommends testing and monitoring.

Those facts make OBS a sensible free local encoder, not a guarantee that a lesson stream will run continuously. With a local setup, the computer, encoder, connection, and YouTube broadcast all need to remain operational. The official sources do not establish a minimum PC specification or promise 24/7 uptime.

Check YouTube Live access before setting up

YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days to live stream. Content in a live stream must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and policy guidance before preparing the broadcast; access and applicable rules are controlled by YouTube.

Set up a local OBS broadcast

The outline below covers the supported route—using OBS as a software encoder and YouTube as the destination—without assuming a particular OBS interface version or an unverified playlist feature. The cited official material does not specify an exact multi-file lesson-loop configuration, so check OBS’s current controls for the version you install and confirm the behavior in a test stream before relying on it.

  1. Install OBS Studio. Download it from the OBS Project. OBS is the encoder; it does not remove the need for a running computer or network connection.
  2. Prepare the lesson content. Decide which recording should play and whether you need one lesson or a sequence. In OBS, configure the video source or sources needed for your recording workflow. Test that the lesson image and audio appear as intended. The available official sources do not establish a specific playlist procedure for looping several files.
  3. Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube’s Live Control Room, prepare a stream and use the stream connection details provided there in the encoder workflow. Treat the stream key as private; do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast. YouTube’s computer-streaming guidance covers encoder-based streaming and preview.
  4. Check the preview before going live. Verify that the intended lesson is playing, the audio is audible, and the image looks right. Confirm the stream is accessible to the intended audience using the visibility and audience settings you selected in YouTube.
  5. Start the encoder and monitor the broadcast. YouTube advises testing the workflow, reviewing the Live Control Room preview, and monitoring stream quality. For a continuous lesson stream, periodically check that the lesson remains on the intended material and that both audio and video continue to work.

Local OBS versus cloud looping

The practical choice is whether to run the stream from your own machine or have a cloud service send uploaded recordings. A local encoder gives you direct control and has no OBS software charge, but the computer and connection must stay available. A cloud service can avoid leaving a home computer running; check each provider’s current terms, limits, price, support, and any stated uptime commitments rather than assuming every service performs alike.

Approach What it does Main consideration
OBS Studio on a local computer Runs encoder software on your computer and sends the stream to YouTube. Your computer and connection must remain operational; official sources do not give a guaranteed reliability level or minimum specification.
StreamNeo Uploads recordings and loops them from the cloud to YouTube. One flat price per slot for uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps; the first day is free with no card.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a prerecorded lesson stream, StreamNeo’s workflow is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It runs in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.

Test and troubleshoot before relying on a continuous stream

  • You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, then review YouTube’s current eligibility guidance.
  • The YouTube preview is blank or inaccessible: Check the encoder connection details and stream key, then return to the Live Control Room preview and verify that the stream can be accessed.
  • The wrong lesson or no audio is playing: Check the selected OBS source and the recording’s audio and video in the preview before going live.
  • The stream becomes unreliable: YouTube recommends testing the workflow and monitoring audio and video quality. Check the computer and internet connection in a local setup; no cited source promises uninterrupted operation.
  • Content raises a policy concern: Confirm you have the rights needed for the recorded lesson and any included music, images, or other material, and make sure the stream complies with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

What to choose

Choose OBS if you want free encoder software and can keep a computer and connection running while you test and monitor the broadcast. Choose a cloud looping service if keeping a local machine on is the problem; assess the provider’s current terms and claims directly. Neither route should be treated as a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
