Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First check the YouTube player’s mute and volume controls, then check where macOS is sending sound: Apple menu > System Settings > Sound > Output. If you mean audio missing from a broadcast you are sending to YouTube, troubleshoot the encoder’s audio path separately from sound on the Mac. An update may have happened just before the problem, but that timing alone does not prove the update caused it.
First, identify which audio is missing
“YouTube stream has no audio” can describe two different problems:
- You cannot hear a YouTube video or live stream on the Mac mini. Check YouTube, browser, and macOS playback settings.
- Your YouTube viewers cannot hear your broadcast. Check whether the Mac plays sound locally, then inspect the audio sources and output in your streaming encoder.
Follow the path that matches what you are experiencing. If both are affected, start with local playback before investigating the broadcast.
If you cannot hear YouTube on the Mac mini
1. Check YouTube and browser volume
Make sure the YouTube player is not muted and raise its volume. Check the Mac’s volume and any browser or device sound controls as well. Try a different YouTube video, then play audio from another website or app. If other apps have sound, focus on YouTube or the browser rather than treating the problem as a Mac-wide audio failure. YouTube’s guidance also recommends restarting the browser or device if the basic volume checks do not help. YouTube: Fix sound problems

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Select the intended sound output
- Open Apple menu > System Settings > Sound > Output.
- Select the device you want to hear sound from, such as the Mac mini’s speakers, headphones, a USB audio device, or an external display.
- Raise the output volume and make sure mute is off, then test YouTube again.
macOS sends sound to the selected output device; a connected USB device, headphones, AirPlay device, or display may be selected instead of the speakers you expect. The app’s volume cannot exceed the system output setting. Apple: Change the sound output settings
3. Temporarily disconnect other audio devices
Unplug headphones, external speakers, and USB audio devices, and temporarily disconnect external displays if practical. Then check Sound > Output again and test. A connection can route audio away from the device you intended to use. If macOS keeps switching to another connected device, Apple advises unplugging headphones or external speakers before selecting the display’s speakers. Open System Settings > Sound > Output and select the HDMI-connected device. Confirm that the display itself is configured to play sound. Apple’s Mac mini HDMI troubleshooting also advises disconnecting devices plugged into the computer’s headphone jack while diagnosing a display that is not receiving HDMI audio. Apple: If your Mac doesn’t play sound through HDMI
Check the selected output and connections before considering a different HDMI cable. Apple documents HDMI audio routing, but cable replacement is not established as a standard fix.

If viewers cannot hear your YouTube broadcast
Separate the Mac’s local playback from what your encoder sends to YouTube. Play the intended audio on the Mac first. If that works but the broadcast is silent, the problem is more likely in the capture, mixer, or encoder path than in YouTube’s playback volume.
- Check the encoder’s audio sources. Confirm that the intended application, microphone, desktop audio, or other source is routed into the broadcast. Check source selection and mixer levels.
- Listen to the encoder output. Check its audio meters or preview, where available, and verify that the intended source registers and is not muted.
- Check a local recording. If the encoder creates an archive, play it back. A silent archive points toward the source or encoder configuration; an audible archive with a silent audience-facing stream suggests a problem later in the streaming path.
- Review encoder errors. If the source and routing appear correct but the encoder output is faulty, YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting recommends checking encoder errors and trying another encoder as an isolation test.

OBS Studio: check your macOS and OBS versions
OBS’s available capture path depends on both versions. OBS Studio 30 and later on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can use a macOS Audio Capture Source to capture desktop audio or audio from one application. OBS documentation describes a Screen Capture Source for OBS 28/29 on macOS 13 and later; if that source is hidden, its audio is removed. Confirm your installed versions before following instructions for one of these paths. OBS: macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide
Do not assume a virtual audio device is required for current OBS versions; first check the native capture options available for your version.

Troubleshoot by what you hear
| What happens | Where to check next |
|---|---|
| Other apps play sound, but YouTube does not | YouTube player mute and volume, browser or device volume, then restart the browser. |
| No apps play sound, or sound comes from the wrong device | macOS Sound > Output selection, volume, mute, and connected audio devices. |
| The Mac plays the audio, but the encoder preview or local archive is silent | Encoder source selection, routing, mute state, and mixer levels. |
| The local archive is audible, but the YouTube broadcast is not | Encoder errors and the live-stream output path; use another encoder as an isolation test if needed. |
| Built-in speakers still do not work after the documented checks | Seek Apple service guidance; persistent built-in-speaker trouble is not the same diagnosis as a YouTube or encoder problem. |
Or let it run in the cloud
